this song was published in 1928. Capinere littleraly the bird, but is meant here as brunettes. 'Bandolero' means outlaw in Spanish. Arizona was perceived, at the beginning of the XX century as a pre-emently hispanic land, different from the caucasian +native territory we came to imagine thanks to so many 'western' movies.
The translation for "Capinere" is "Those with dark hair". Given the context of the song, the geography and Luciano's propensity to romantesize the life of people leaving their homeland (see his version of "Terra Straniera") to seek a better life, it would appear to me that it refers to "Mexican immigrants" trying to make a better life in a land of promise.
/PART 2: / /The "Bandolero" tired /Descends the mysterious mountain /On his white horse /Crests a rosebush /That flower of spring /Means fidelity /To his "Capinera" (feminine) /He will bring it / /At midnight goes /The circle of pleasure /And in the darkness /Each wishes to gain /They are kisses of passion /Love knows no peace /And this is the song /Of a thousand "Capinere" / /They are kisses of passion /Love knows no peace /And this is the song /Of a thousand "Capinere" /...CONTINUED
PART 1: "Freely" translated by me: Down in Arizona Land of dreams and nighmares If a guitar plays A thousand "Capinere" sing Their hair is dark They have fever in their heart They seek fortune There, may find love At midnight goes The circle of pleasure And in the darkness Each wishes to gain They are kisses of passion Love knows no peace And this is the song Of a thousand "Capinere" ... Con tutto il rispetto per altri cantanti che l'hanno incisa,ma l'avete ascoltata bene ...Tajoli è superlativo!!!!!Bravo il nostro Luciano, non ci sono parole!

I used "fever" as it is a direct translation, but a better rendition of "fever in their heart" may be "fervour" or passion "in their heart".

The song starts talking about Arizona, but I doubt there are any Blackcap birds over there....I wonder if people in the 1930s knew that....

i think in english it's called Blackcap (look for Sylvia atricapilla)

Can anyone tell me what 'capinere' means? If anyone can translate the lyrics into english that would be great.

@dinoforti50
Bhe anche Nilla Pizzi la canta divinamente. Penso che Nilla sia il corrispettivo al femminile di Tajoli proprio per l'eleganza del canto.
