they get black belts, just not like the rest of the corps. Their name tags are white instead of black. Rats are Rats at VMI. They do not become 4th classmen until breakout. VMI does not use freshman, sophmores, etc..they use 4th 3rd, 2nd and 1st classman.
Just out of curiosity. Why do they rats have black belts on? I was under the assumption that rats do not receive their black belts and name tags until after they have broken out.
