What is the point? Attention or having power to change things?
Get on local school boards and run for local races, then move up through the party. Become the local precinct chairman and on state convention to vote for party platforms. - This happened in Texas with the religious right in the past and they are now ensconced. Remember where GWB came from? -- Ron Paulers are trying to move into local politics and could use the help! Who is the next Ron Paul, as he is old. Young folks? It's you!
#3) So protest, write letters, vote, run for office, get on the central committees, start a militia, whatever it takes to roll back BIG GOVERNMENT and take the country back to its founding principles.
#2) Protesting isn't totally useless. Its is a good entry point and a place to learn more and make those all important face-to face connections. It also generates press, which is important in the war of words and ideas. Obviously, if there was one thing that eally worked all the time, we would all be doing that one thing. I think everything works to some degree, and to "get 'er done" we need to use everything in the tool box.
#1) George's famous baklava is awesome! Really moist, flavored with cloves and cinnamon, its dangerous! Have someone with you when you open it, or you may finish them by yourself!
Terrin, you're further down the path than the majority. I compare the "awakening" to the 5 steps of grieving. The final step being acceptance that our republic is truly shattered due to our own neglect. We, as individuals must take personal responsibility for that and learn from our errors. Once we do this and embrace freedom & liberty, we will fumble through, as our forefathers did. We will do what ever needs to be done, because we may not love our govt, but we do love our country. JMO
thank you for keeping us up to date. Protesting would probably only get you pokey time, unless you were good enough to get a large following. Avoid cheap hookers and homeless to help you out. Tea Parties seem a good bet! You must have a good grass root following. Nothing seems to make the point like the guns the opposition has, when they are telling you where you can stand and what you can say. Some democracy we have. Vote? They are all the same side of a coin you flip anymore.
In a non-functioning democracy, what are our options? Voting's a waste of time. Protesting's a waste of time. Civil disobedience will get you some pats on the back from like-minded people, but folks who aren't aware of the issues will think you're just stupid for inviting arrest. I don't know what the answer is. Maybe just tune it all out.
Great analysis. I think after attending some of the town hall events and seeing people debating in the streets with each other. I think that if people brought more materials to share with people then it would be more effective. These protesters had some good slogans."you wanna pay for my health care?" lol
I have to agree with the low impact too because I was at the million man march in DC and it was a travesty to see the coverage of it. Protests are good but we need to redress grievances. 5*
I think protesting when you add signing a petition has worked very well with CameraFraud in raising awareness of the problems with traffic cameras. Besides that, it's fun, gets you off the couch, and frees people's minds.
I think protesting can be considered a waste of time of the goal is to change the behavior of politicians. I do think however, that protests are good as a way to show the apathetic public at large that it is normal to dissent with government openly.
Yeah, politicians dont take protesters seriously. If you want to change their mind, its not effective. They dont care as long as you pay your taxes. I forgot who said that.
If you just want people to know youre pissed off, its very effective.
Thanks dave, I shot this about 6 months ago, I think I am getting better, because I agree too much panning, and I got a really nice mic now, but it is too quite in this. I will have to figure it all out. As always thanks for your advice!
I think protesting is a good thing, but you have to work to make it effective (promotion, networking, alerting local media, address a current issue and be prepared to present a workable alternative solution, and VERY important: Choose a spokesperson to go to (if necessary) who has a good speaking voice and calm demeanor!
I used to teach business orientation classes at a local Technical College. During those classes, one of the messages I presented was "Action without a plan is dangerous, and a plan without action is worthless."
If everyone spent 1 minute protesting for every minute they spent b*tching on the Internet, then we would've accomplished 100x more than we already have.
Think of it this way: Is it easier to ignore 100 people holding signs on the street corner, or to ignore 1,000 people whining on some obscure internet forum?
Protests seem like a waste of time in today's environment because the government no longer responds to the people. The FED contributes to most of each department's budget, so there is no reason to listen to the people. We the People have become uninportant in the government system. Our only real recourse is to stop trading with FED notes and use gold and silver instead. Then you will starve the beast and the people will become important again.
Civil disobedience is far more effective then sign holding... that is what changed the Vietnam war. Burning draft cards is better then holding a sign saying i might burn my draft card.
Terrin, I think it's a mixed bag. It can bring attention to events and deeds that go unreported in our news. There was a union protest that I drove by but never reported on any news channels. Took me hours of phone calls to find out what was going on.
Protesting without any other action is useless, IMHO. Petition drives, voter registration, recall petitions of elected officials, etc.

I think the protesting is working well. I have fun at the 4:20 rallies with the megaphone, as well.
