I was in the band from 80-83 in the old bldg. Yes, I served with whumbyrd who posted here.
What is amazing to me is how much energy (and hate) went into vandalizing, trashing and breaking things in so most of these buildings. The people that did the damage (and there must have been many) only proved that they have no life to use their energy to do something productive.
The hospital is now the Department of Defense. Whenever I ride past it, I allways get the feeling im being watched. Word is, is that the DoD has 100+ cameras around that old hospital.
I want to thank you for your military service also think you for posting all of these videos it is very sad to see a military base with as much history that Fort Ord has in this shape but at least for recorded this for history. Thanks again
I was there from 79-82 under the brilliant leadership of Joseph Altieri. What a life that was. The scum dogs were the party animals of the band. John Lawson, Dave Peters and the boys. Ahh the good ole days.
OMG! I was at fort ord with Cw3 Obrien..LOL...I stumbled on this video. I was a flute player...remember Sgt smith? "smitty", LOL I can't believe it. Hilarious! I was there OJT for the longest. Caldwell1 LOL Kathy McNeil..Remember...they told us if Mr. Obrien came and talked to us..we were supposed to walk away. Who IS this?? (I was always in trouble with those NCO's ...I stayed at parade rest in a dang sound module) (eyeroll)
I was there about the same time as you, Jim, but we only overlapped by a few months. The quartermaster you were trying to remember was Sgt. Rockne.
My best memory of you was showing off that electronic wind instrument that looked like a clarinet but you made it sound like a distortion guitar, now THAT was cool.
After WO3 O"Brien we had W01 Volherbst, he was the opposite of O'Brien and we had to work on Monday's AND Friday's, it sucked.
Great to learn some of the history of these buildings. Drove by here the other day and this one has just been demolished.
