Thank you Rizlatune for sharing this wonderful song. This evening, just a few days until Christmas and a new Year, 2012, I cruised around YTube checking out several versions of it by different musical artists, even one of NASA/JPL as the space agency dedicated a radio beam 431 light years away to Polaris of this Beatles' melody. Despite so many opinions by viewers, I enjoyed all versions. Lennon is widely respected. I'm grateful our human race is still guided mainly by love. Peace to all.
Nothings gonna change my world, I think we all said that in our youth. I picture John soaring free and peaceful Across his unique and ideal Universe...all we have to do is reach across my friends...hands across the water!
At times I remember sitting in my room and playing this song as a teen. Much easier times, a time when I was really discovering me identity and establishing new ideas into my psyche, experimenting with acid, religion, and puppy love. This melody will forever ring in my heart in reverence to a time past that I hold dear.....
I love this song so much, but the words.......nothings going to change my world........your world can change in a split second; say you get hit by a ten ton truck as Morrissey suggests....but the orchestration- countermelodies dripping all over the place. Ahhhhh George Martain you genius amongst genius.
@123jsbach "Nothings gonna change my world"... It's not meant to be interpreted literally.. If you payed more attention to the all of the lyrics, instead of just the chorus, and researched John's influence for writing the song, this would be clear. His ambitions in life, his world, will not be changed and he will not be dragged down because of the daily challenges and struggles of life, whether it be verbal nagging or insults, or emotional conflicts with friends and peers.
thanks for posting! this version is groovy! at first I was expecting it to just be the Anthology version because of the harp? in the background not a sitar, but this is wild! thanks again!
Why do i cry to this song.. i love u john, if it wasnt for u, i would of never done Acid or smoked pot.. And I Have Experienced many Beautiful Trips To this song and many Beatles Songs
NO NO NO... they totally screw up this song with that "obladi" kind of bass and that ordinary pseudo-latin percussion ... this song is meant to be played only with a guitar...maybe some indian kind of instrument... but the bass and the precussion.. disgusting.. john is suffering wherever he may be
I agree with some of the other comments. This is not a "Rare" version as such. But it is perhaps the MOST beautiful version I have heard. Why not say "remixed". It sounds like the best bits of all the arrangements have been compiled together. It could be a LOVE outtake?, But I won't get into that debate.....
There are many different mixes of this song, so it's quite confusing. This sounds a lot like the Take 2 version on "Anthology", but with some (fan-contributed?) embellishments. John Lennon will be the first to admit that they never recorded a decent version of this song (a rare case where a Beatles song was better than the recording). I like this remix. Not really the original intent, but it works.
This is in my opinion the most beautiful version of this song I have listened to, and any Beatles rarity hunter would know that there are more versions of this song than any other floating around. The video goes very well with the music as well. Quite cosmic and simplistic, and the multiple versions of varying origins only adds to the mystique of this amazing piece.
This is evidently overdubbing based on the McCartney's re-worked Let It Be Naked album. This is not the Wildlife version which has birds at the start and end. This is not the Phil Spector version that ended up on the official Let It Be album - accused of being too syrupy.
This uploaded version has more additions than the Phil Spector version. This is not the Anthology 2 version - youtube.com/watch?v=hwl2KS_RiXg. Why does the uploader try to promote it as a rare Beatles version?
@LCORRY214 Whay are you so mad at me corry?? you NEVER call me any more!!lets rub our hot dogs toghether like all times! Now cum on, lets kiss and make up!!!! call me.xxxxxoooooo Jason
Not a rare recording anymore. Shame that (in a way). However, that statement open too big a debate. Should people keep rarities to themselves or should the world be allowed to see/hear them.........
@springsteen96 There are different sides to the story. I've uploaded rare stuff in the past. When I did there were probaby a few dozen people around the world that spat venom at what I'd done. And then there is the other side of the story.......
I was actually reading about this earlier, there was a version that Phil Specter "remixed" to include backing chorus and strings. That is on the Let It Be album. This version is on the WWF tribute album, as someone previously mentioned.
This is the original version released in 1967 on an album to raise money for the WWF. It also included Bruce Forsythe 'when I see an elephant fly' and Cliff Richard's 'In the Country'.
The Beatles started work on Across The Universe in feb 1968, the same day as Hey Bulldog and Lady Madonna. However, the version presented here is not an original '60s take .
Does anyone else hear John singing "Nothing's gonna chain my world" on the second chorus, the one after he talks about his thoughts meandering like a restless wind inside a letter box? I swear I'm not hearing things, and it makes sense: Above all things, Lennon did not want anything to constrain him, physically or psychically.
This almost sounds like an earlier attempt by Phil Spector as you can clearly hear violins, using the same vocal as the Let it Be version, with extra bass, heavier drums and possibly metal drums?
This is the original version. The one on Let it be album was doctored by Phil Spector like The long and winding Road. He added the orchesttra and extra vocals on both songs much to Johns and Pauls dismay
Let it be was shelved by The Beatles for Abbey Road lp
But thanks to Phil Let it be album would never have been released.
Yeah,I hear xtra keys, and maybe pronounced bass and other stuff on this version.I dont think I ever heard this one but I think its the Let it Be album recordings 1969,(not the 1967 Wildlife version) mixed differently with added effects by Phil Spector. Regardless of what alot of people think ,I think Phil did a great job salvaging the 100s of hours of the Get Back Sessions to make a great coherent album ,Let it Be.
If you are a Phil Spector fan as I am, you can appreciate his production even when he goes overboard, as on this album. His treatment of Across the Universe really works, and his Long and Winding Road arrangement gives the nostalgic sheen appropriate to the final song from the greatest pop band in the world.
javernot, man, i prefer thousand times what was the original versions. Phil Spector, ruined much of the songs, still i don't want to say that the remixed songs are bad. Are quite good, but i also thank Spector, for at least, hear this songs, unfortunately it wasn't the original mixes what we heard. But still Let It Be it's a good album, but i prefer what was Get Back.
Yep, this version is best.

Where exactly did this come from? Aside from the guitar and Lennon's voice, none of this really sounds like the work of the Beatles.
It doesn't really sound like the work of Phil either. The overdubs sound pretty modern to me, like it's some sort of remix.
Bimkovitz 2 years ago
This has to be a modern remix/overdub of the Feb. 1968 recording - there is no document of this from the Beatles' 60s catalogue.
