I think John Malkovich looks perfect to play a convict and his ability was impeccable in this, he sunk into that role with chilling authenticity. You could actually feel as though he was a serial killer and terrorist, a Terry Nichols type with vicious intelligence. He didn't have to use any cliches in it, the whole performance was original.

@applesweeter Flying represents freedom because the ability to fly breaks the 2 dimensional plane we all live in most of the time. Most of the time we can right and left and forward and backward, but up and down is a pretty limited direction, much like society is with social classes. Flying puts you above, it makes you see things from a different perspective. Its the Perfect analogy.
