  • fuck me ... immagine advertising cars like this now.... this could be general motors new strategy... Burning fields in other countrys so you can have cars that make u go oooo.

  • Peugeots all the way to the late 90s were great cars hence the reputation as the ''French BMW'....As for saying all French cars are rubbish,i would love to know your reasoning :-/

  • 405 wasn't bad, you still see a few about now and the newest ones are 15 years old

  • Piece of shit built by snail eating, frog leg chomping French CUNTS.

  • i never owned one,but its the most common old car ive seen where i live in scotland, there are examples over 20 years old with not a visible bit of rust on them both salloon and estates, that would make them a great new buy in the 80 s

  • Comment removed

  • I own a 405 1.9td estate, 108,000 on the clock and still responsive, air con and electric windows still fully operational......still manages to leave a few much younger cars sat at the lights....and the best bit, the massive space in the back when the seats are down.....a great workhorse of a car :-)

  • With all that fire, the song should be take my paint away.

  • @gotham61 lolol - thats a good one!!!

  • id love one of these to be my first car but 1: i think they might be to big, and 2: the insurance cost :/

  • Its not just the advert here that is British, the 405 saloons were assembled at Peugeot's (formerly Rootes) Ryton plant. I wouldn't be surprised if Peugeot used the 'Take my breath away' soundtrack on the French home market - certain French 205 adverts had English language music soundtracks to them...

  • peugeot - the drive of your life

  • my mi16 estate is very rapid! :D

  • @max8su

My dad had the Saloon 405 Mi16, back in 1995 to 1997 in a Very Dark Metallic Green, Handled Fantastic and went like stink that Car, beat most things on the road in its day.

Bugger all room in the back tho!

  • good old cars 405 mi16 rapid in its day

  • its not rubbish!

    Bugatti = rubbish!

  • aahh i remember this advert from when i was a kid :D funny you remember stuff because of music! not interested in the car one bit tho. rust magnet french shit

  • @SaucyBegger25

Rust? They are galvanized. Mine is 16 years old and hasn't got a single spec of rust on it.

  • Cool video thanks - have favourited on our channel here - we favourite the best brand videos on youtube. Cheers

  • HAHA!!! This is SO excessive i LOVE IT. xD

  • If you do not want to own a 405 after this you have something wrong with you!

  • @acp010 That place should be a national landmark, was it britain where they filmed it?

  • French cars are very very good. There are two in my family a Peugeot 406 3 Lt Automatic and a Citroen C15RD that ~I use for work. Both bought from new and still going very strong.

  • Awesome commercial...even more awesome because it was filmed on my uncle's farm all those years ago!

  • French cars are not rubbish!

  • i had one of these cars 405 glx turbo diesal i think it was nealy top of the range good car

  • I have 2 - saloon & estate - both with 150k miles on them. Amazing cars really. Bloody heater blowers keep packing up, however....

  • This reminds me of my dad coming back from the pub - going back a good 20 + years - he was roughly my age back then :-) buit I love him as always and he remembers these reminders as well as the hard times we sufferred. YNWA

  • had one of these, 70k miles when i bouht it, 130k when i sold it, super car, got 207 now 110 diesel sport , this car i can only describe as ok, progress i suppose..........

  • Strange choice really... how do we make this car look good? Let's firebomb it.

  • Remember the advert quite well.

  • I love this advert like yesterday - my dad opening up in the living room a single malt - Jesus, I was probably around 9, but, boy was I happy - god, invent me a time machine.

  • Still going strong. My Peugeot 405 has 330,000kms on it and everything works!

  • Wow this ad even reminded me of my childhood aswell

  • Awesome video!

  • hi, quite good

  • the car may be bad but mine did 400k before it cracked a piston all on the original engine and box allthough was on its 3rd head gasket!

  • in what sense u say its bad? i dont get it, do u have great cars there in usa??? jejej im from buenos aires, greetings fellow

  • HAHA good one :D

I'ts a reason why u don't see manny us cars in other country than Us... or wait u don't see manny of them there either!

Way to go Detroit... Cheers :D

  • should have set the 405 on fire

  • my dad remembers this advert liked it and bought 1 he bought the diesel one he loved it quite fast the 405 is not crap they maybe old loud mud pluggers they are very reliable and would have another

  • Remember the advert quite well. The song was used in the 1986 movie 'Top Gun' that starred a young Tom Cruise. It was covered recently by an American artist. Who was it?

  • love this old tunes never die

  • The same can be said of Fords of Old & New GTiDog in regards to handling and engine power eg. Escort MK2 RS1800/2000, Escort MK3 RS Turbo, Sierra & Escort RS Cosworths.

I reckon the last decent Peugeot GTi models were probably the 205GTi & 306GTi anything after that is bacially slow & underpowered for what it is. Which is probably the reason Peugeot are ditching the GTi badge for any future models now.

  • @80sfordman What about the 106 GTI ... and The GTI s back 207 & 308 and 2011 108 GTI :D

  • Yeah Dinkata2005, most European cars do have a 5* EuroNCAP rating so thats nothing new there but their front end wings don't dent as easy as a 407.

  • Most French cars are poorly built and will probably fall apart within 4 years of their working life. A friend of mine recently got a 407 saloon and accidntly leaned his knee onto the drivers-side front wing only to leave a huge dent after lifting his knee off of it. French cars are anything but solid

The only advice I would give to a person who is considering buying a French car is Make sure you're good friends with an Auto Electrician coz almost every French car will have dodgey electrics!

  • Yeah, but the "non solid" front end (bonnet, bumper) will save your ass if I hit you with the 407. And the strong front beams will save you if you crash. Just for the record- the 407 has 5star EuroNCAP rating.

  • I'll give you that the 407 isn't very good, but the thing with Peugeots in particular is they've got a good history. Peugeots of old have always handled well, they've always been able to get reasonable power out of the engines they've produced (bhp for capacity anyway) and they don't rot nearly as badly as fords, vauxhalls, mercedes, BMW's, VW's etc. etc. etc.

The majority of racers in the stock hatches use citroens and peugeots because nothing else can touch them!

  • French cars(especially Peugeot) are much better than British cars, not to mention the US cars. Having some bad moments is normal in any company. Now they are coming back again with a big lion roar and you better stay off their road. I don`t know if VAG is ever going to be that eco-friendly,soft and comfy to drive and fuel-efficient. Sorry french is and always was better than German. Germans had some better cars, but overall French is better. Sorry, face the truth finally. Why do americans love them

  • 405s were great cars in their time, and still even now a nice car to drive. I must have been about 6 when these ads came out, still remember them though!

  • The 405 always has been and still is an epic vehicle. Such good handling for the size of car and so comfortable.

  • I remember this advert being much better. Maybe it's the inferior cover version of 'Take My Breath Away' that undermines the quality somewhat. Or maybe it's the useless faggot doing the voiceover at the end.

  • lol

  • haha if you watched the last pisode of topgear (13x07) you'll find this quite funny :)

  • If you watch top gear you probably find fart noises funny

  • and you must be a member of the morris marina owners club

  • What, did Jeremy Clarkson tell you about that?

  • My family car growing up was a black, 1980 505 saloon, No other car on the road sounded like it. Parts for Peugeots aren't cheap over here in the States.

I saw a white 405 driving around yesterday, if I hadn't just bought a house, I would definitely try to find a nice 405, or I saw a nice 504 coupe in New York on eBay recenlty. Pinifarina design. . . . (drooling from mouth)

  • I remember this ad well as a kid myself!, i think Jasper Carott did a parody of this ad on one of his shows with a remote control 405 if i remember rightly!. I actually have a 405 now, apparently the 1.6 petrol is to be kept well away from due to carburettor problems but i have a 1.9 diesel i picked up for peanuts and it is a fantastic car, virtually no rust, comfy, great to drive. One of the best cars i've ever had, and one i would buy again! thanks for posting the vid! :-)

  • Sounds like you want to sell the car! :-)

  • It's a great car! Here in France few people sell them usually they keep them.

They're comfy, cheap to run, solid. And you have several version that have leather seats, AC etc...

Several engine versions are the same as the 309. Which makes even more parts available.

  • Jesus, I remember when this ad was on the TV!

  • looks like the french trying to make good vietnam, the silly surrender monkeys

  • This was actually filmed at my Grandfathers sugar cane farm near Ballina, NSW, Australia.

We never had the ad shown in Australia though. I recently showed him the ad on YouTube as he had never seen it before.

The special effects guys had a lot of trouble lighting decent fires so the farm guys had to help them out a lot!

I think the grand total of damage to the two 405's used for the shoot was a couple of melted windscreen wipers blades.

  • Did the Peugeot 405 ever sell in Australia?

  • yes ofcourse :D

  • Never knew that. By the time I took a holiday in Australia (December 2002), I didn't spot any 405s. Wonder how they coped with Australian conditions.

  • thats a little overly dramatic isnt it! The 80's!!

  • at 0:33, is he driving with handbrake on?

  • Perhaps thats why there are so many explosions going off?

  • lol no, the handbrake is down..he's not drifting is he:)

  • im 14 and i havew 1

  • excellent! thanks

  • Them 405's did not take my breath away...they were shite. Even the Mi 16v was dogwank.

  • awesome :)

used to love this ad and I still do.

The world would be a better place if more adverts were as stupid as this XD

  • This commercial is both retarded and awesome and awesomely retarded.

  • how did u get this on youtube

  • The thing that took your breath away was the bills for the new cyclinder head!

    Pugits are downmarket tin heaps!

  • 405's weren't really rubbish, after all there are still loads on UK roads and its 12/13 years since the last one was made

  • well european cars dont die after 5 years like american cars. I drive a 16 year old 106xsi and it runs like new.

  • My friend drives a 1986 Chevrolet Cavalier(22 years old), and it also runs like new. What's your point?

  • my stepmom has a 1998 VW cabrio and every month something goes wrong with it. the top stops working, the windscreen leaks, it won't start, the windows wont go down, the power locks dont work.

  • That's a VW, peugeot's are made to last:)

  • Awesome advert. Peugeot should do a remake for one of their current cars.

  • Some of the camerawork is a bit sloppy though, especially the helicopter camera which is wobbling all over the place.

  • Something tells me it wouldn't be "on message" with the current environmental situation, I still agree though.

  • Haha so funny! Adverts were so wierd back then...but to be honest - more entertaining than they are now!

  • PEUGEOT 405 FOREVERRRRRRRRRR

  • I remember that Jasper Carrott made a piss-take of this ad - in which he would throw a lighted cigarette out of the car and start the fire. X-D

  • VERY 1990!

  • The 405 is probably the best looking Peugeot they had back in 80's. Other cars such as the 205 and 309 are ugly as shit.

  • great car but bad clip^^

  • i love 405's

  • Ridiculous advert for a car, but was always one of my favourites.
