The issue of Loshon Hara is based on the story of MIriam criticizing Moses and making false conclusion on Moses character. Loshan Hara has been distorted by some Rabbi's to turn Judaism into some sort of club. The irony is the Chafetz Chaim violated his own rules when he crticized other Orthodox groups and even saying they weren't even religious which some were. But one thing I'll say-Rabbi Boteach is a public figure who has an influence on many people. If he is not a 'kosher' Rabbi- if he has unkosher hashkafos (Jewish outlook)-then it is an obligation-a 'mitzvah' to warn people about him.

Who is Rabbi Levin to judge Shmuley Boteach? I really felt that the positive attributes were just there to fulfill the letter of the Jewish law formula to say positive things before criticizing. What is a "Torah-true Jew"? One who dresses like a penguin but speaks lashon hara? Why shouldn't Shmuley speak to "irreligious" Jews or non-Jews? The Jews are supposed to be "Ohr le goyim". At least 30% of Orthodox Jewish women over 30 are unmarried. 30%!!
