When I retired in Victoria years ago, I was confused why the local residents there denied everything negative about their city.
I guess that is why they call Victoria "The City of Denial"? When my wife and I found ourselves also telling lies, we got out and moved back to Ontario. It was strange living in a society where telling lies on a daily basis was a way of life. The day after a snow fall people would say "what snow", I didn't see any snow.
Victoria is a very strange place. I have lived here for over sixteen years, but when I'm done working I will retire elsewhere... Half a million for a starter home? Victoria has all the worst problems of a small town and a big city. The police are corrupt, the streets are stupid, the drug problem is out of control, and I could go on. I won't lie to you. I came from Montreal. I had never seen a fight outside a bar until I got here. Give me a sleepy crossroads in Saskatchewan any time!
some years there's none at all, and it falls in the morning hours. By the time the sun hits it, it's gone! 1996 was the big anomaly where it stayed on the ground for nearly a week!
Look to the left side of the continent. Find Seattle.
Look up and find Vancouver. Look onto that island to
the left. That's Vancouver Island. About halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, on the Southern tip of that island is Victoria. That's where I live...
BEER! LOTS of beer! - - There's the Empress! - - Causeway??? - - - green light! GREEN LIGHT! - - oops - that was the parliament with the wonderful lights!
Wow, Victoria is beautiful. I loved the snowy night time drive through the city. What's the secret to taking good videos like that at night. You must have a special setting for night. -jim
Search "Best Dance ever - gorilla street style" it is a WAYYYYYY better video about beautiful Victoria!

Usually there's a day or two of snow every year,
some years there's none at all, and it falls in the morning hours. By the time the sun hits it, it's gone! 1996 was the big anomaly where it stayed on the ground for nearly a week!

The causeway is that part of Government Street in front of the Empress
Hotel. It once was a bridge before the ground under the empress was
a filled-up landfill...

My camera has several settings. The one I use most of the time is for
use with tungsten light bulbs which put out a very yellow light. The
setting makes everything more blue and natural-looking. I use that
same setting for outdoor night shots.
