I'm pretty sure this work on graphene has already been done???was monolayer graphene not produced through a liquid based exfoliation already proved in nature in 08? Also I really cant see graphene becoming used in your super computers any time soon. As for your comments on DSSC technology....flexible cells already exsit..granted they use organic solvent based electrolytes but they are out there
The scientific literature completely disagrees with the boy's poster presentation. One should be careful about people that take credit for other people's work. Please see Nature Nanotechnology 3, 563 - 568 (2008) for the exfoliation of graphite in organic solvents and Advanced Materials 20 (10), 1876-1881(2008) for the solvation of Nanotubes in common solvents
He did not say solvents didn't exist. He even mentions their use in his experiments. His breakthrough was improvement of solvent selection based on characterization of the physical properties of the nanotubes. Previous selections had been mere trial and error.
This kid is brilliant, he is definitely going to change the way we think about technology. If this only got third, I wonder who took first? This is seriously the future people. Great work, hope he keeps it up.
That guy's a genius. Building his own ultra-high-resolution detector, creating his own solvent for graphene, I mean...how smart is he? His ingenuity is off the scale.
The scary part is that this guy, brand new to the world of science, solved a problem by himself that whole teams of scientists hadn't covered yet! Of course, it must have taken a profuse amount of research, trial-and-error, etc, but he's trying to make the world a better place.
And that's what science is really about, isn't it?
"Skin tight bullet proof vest"...yeah. If your were shot wearing something like that it might hold together as it is pressed through you when the bullet impacts.
The material wouldn't stretch that far; the bullet's kinetic energy would be largely absorbed by the carbon before it got far enough to truly damage your skin.

It's worth to see electrochromism in graphene:

He sounds incredibly passionate. And he explains his research quite well.
I like you, Philip Streich. You're gonna go places.

He's right, it would hurt, but not nearly as bad as you'd think. It'd be tolerable.
