  • Im def getting one currently own a grand am

  • pontiac designers? holden mate

  • does anyone else think it looks like a bmw?

  • @DHREVOLUTION That could have something to do with the fact aussie saloons have clean lines like the german cars have.

American cars looks are more often over-stated and can get quite vulgar looking and lacking in style.

Aussie tastes are far more like the europeans and we prefer under-stated looks to flashy garbage.

I'm not a Holden fanboy because I own a aussie FPV fg F6 310, so I'm a Ford man but I admit Holden still make a excellent car even if it isn't as good as mine.

  • on 3:04 if he was in a police chase, if might lose them with the drift.

  • I just bought one and it is awsome

I find myself taking it out late at night when there are no cars on the road so i can open it up

  • EPIC FAIL! STUPID AUSSIE CARS........

  • @1776AmericanWarrior American cars are worse.

  • EPIC FAIL!

  • I have this car, and it is simply excellent: it's fast, stable through the corners, and gorgeous...

I still find myself walking into the garage and just staring at it...

  • sorry did they say best pontiac? dont think so lol

  • lovely. more cars should be made rear wheel drive. even if the power isn't beastly. it would leave room for people like me to have more fun. one thing i love about american cars is their dedication to rear wheel drive in most of their sports models. one thing i dnt like is the laziness in the fact that this car isn't offered with the traditional manual like the GTO, which is also an aussie hybrid. but lovely car overall...one of my favorite american cars for sure.!

  • Pontiac really had something with the G8..

GM should have kept the Pontiac brand, most US cars I see here in Canada look similar but Pontiacs have a unique sporty look to them.. Even the vans!

This is the nicest car I've EVER seen, one day I will own one.

    For now we have a 08 G6.

  • I dont know what your talking about the front being ugly !! Its so beautiful ! <3

  • I dont know what your talking about the front being ugly !! Its so beautiful ! <3

  • Went in an VE SS manual the other day. 0 - 220kph is crazy quick for a family sedan.

  • ha ha all I heard was GM this GM that. Its so good because its australian engeneired its not from GM engeneirs its from holden. and I agree with the fella below the G8 has an ugly front end compared the the Commodore SS.

  • I wish pontiac was still around :/

  • @jgkov49 me to man! i want this thing!!!

  • I got a 2009 G8 GT in Stryker Blue last fall and love it!

  • Wats maxico?

  • awsome ! cant wait to get mine !

  • We need to make it like the vauxhull VXR8...... 500+ bhp! come america were we at???

  • I just bought a 2009 G8 GT. I pick it up tomorrow. I can't wait. It is a heck of a car. It is about time GM!!

  • Holden takes all the credit.

  • @MCHAH how you liking the ride there mang?

  • I Have this car..mine is black though and its so much fun to drive....If u want one get it soon, before they are gone!!

  • Being a diehard Holden fan, I must admit that the Aussie Ford XR6 & XR8 dash displays beat Holden hands down. Thats the one thing Holden has to work on.

  • um read what u just wrote.. It doesnt make sense.

  • `The Pontiac designers` they did jack all on this car it`s as already stated a Holden, or in the UK a VXR8.

  • or also sold in South Africa and the Middle East as the Chevrolet Lumina SS, the Pontiac G8, Vaxhall VXR8, and Chevrolet Lumina SS are all built and fully assembled in Australia under Holden.

  • the best car.I have G8

  • pontiac can thank holden in australia for the design of the car, except for that ugly front, thats all theres!

  • @hsv271 It's a good thing Holden's parent company is GM amirite?

  • @hsv271 I prefer the front actually. I don't like the HSV or the regular Holden fronts. It's too overdone and look at me.

  • @hsv271 Let's get this straightened out. Australia did not design this car, Holden did. Holden is owned by the American company General Motors. General Motors owns these car designs. Pontiac can thank GM for being a smart company and recognizing the global potential of this car design. Oh, and Holden can thank America for this car's engine.

  • im confused, how can they design such a beautiful car and forget to put the redline on the tach.

  • I like this car a lot but I don't like the name. It should have been the new Grand Prix.

I think one of GM's biggest mistakes has been dropping classic name badges that have done very well. Another example is the G6 it should have continued with the Grand Am name.

Ask yourself this question which statement sounds more impressive "I drive a Pontiac G8" or "I drive a Pontiac Grand Prix" ?

To me names like G5, G6 and G8 sound too nerdy and very "New World Order-ish"

  • In short words :

it's sold as Holden Commodore VE SS an Autralia

a Cevrolet Lumina SS in the middle east (front grill is chevy, the rest is the same)

in the USA as a pontiac G8

it's an Aussi car, with a chevy engine. just badged as a pontiac.

works like a charm, fast as hell, handels like a freaking dream for a car with that size

the only down point is the brakes, they are very good, but I'll change them.

glad I have one, best car owned till this day. drive one, you'll love it trust me ;)

  • I agree with you but I must correct you on one front. it is NOT a chevy engine. The engine is not a chevy design. THe LS sereis engine is a new corporate design. There arent many similarities besides the fact that they are pushrods.

  • ok sorry , it's an Amarican engine :)

the LS series was, is , and still a damn good engines.

  • no it is a mexican engine :) all ls1 2 and 3 are built in mexico

  • build in Maxico ? well ...

if some maxican bold guys with small mutashes and big tattus built my car engine ..

    I'ed say : GO MAXICO :D

  • nah, I think the manual gearbox is built in Mexico but not the chey engine.

  • what are u talkin about? maybe i misunderstood what u said, but the LS series V8's are all made from the same basic design of a very strong block. The LS motors are GM made, as well as the L76 6.0L V8 used in this G8 GT(it was used in the silverado's). The G8 GXP uses the LS3 6.2L motor from the Corvette Z51 making 415hp and 415ft-lbs torque. But ur right, the only real similarities are the block and basic setup. they use different heads, intake manifolds, compression ratios, etc.

  • Yeah and don't forget about Vauxhall VRX in UK :D

  • It was designed by pontiac it was designed by holden get ur facts right. Its a holden hsv

  • Pontiac G8 will not die,Chevrolet will buy it because the Chevrolet brand have too much sedans. i like more a 2005 GTO

  • Have you ever seen one up close? They have a build quality that you just dont see very often. It doesnt show up in the videos.

  • Nice Holden Commodore... Eh, I'm not bothered Pontiac is dead to be honest. Too many branches to one auto makers is actually pretty stupid. With one brand out of the way, GM could focus more on streamlining. (PS: Pontiac's front end looks ugly..check out the original car it was re-badged from, the Holden Commodore, and compare the front ends. NO contest.)

  • Apart from the air vents I think it looks nicer. And not that different anyway. Neither are beautiful. Function over form.

  • i agree, they should have left it with the holden front end, as the designers originally intended. in fact they should now just export the car to america as a holden, so i dont need to hear yanks talking about how this car is all american. im also not bothered pontiac is dead, they have been making shit cars for ages. they dont sell at all outside of america becuase they cant compete with cars from europe, japan and australia.

  • Damn! Repackage this as the 2010 Chevrolet Chevelle SS!

  • Good Idea

  • I"m fucking pissed that GM is dropping Pontiac. Just when they start making good cars they go and kill the brand. They better bring the G8 over as a chevy or else I'm gonna start buying nissans.

  • Nissan. It had better be better then the Ultima and more comfy. I work for a car rental business and I'd take the G8 over a Nissan anyday. Hell, I might take a Hyundai over a Nissan lol prob not.

You arent allowed to count the Skyline either, illegal in NA

  • learn to spell...its altima not ultima ya dumbtard

  • well my cousin works for gm and he said they might keep pontiac as a performance brand, but most likely not,yes nissans are good i have a 300zx na that i love to death, also toyotas are good too,i wouldn't get a honda unless its gonna be a 100 all day everyday track car, bet your shocked to hear that from a guy with vtec as part of his screen name lol

  • lol I am sorry and we wonder why GM is going out of business... THEY get rid of the GTO and replace it with the G8. They should have kept the GTO and redeined its body and made the G8 there family car, noone wants a G8 for a drag racer. Us ponatic fans want Trans AM and GTO for our dragster... Leave it to fucking GM.

  • Lol Stupid GM killing the only car that could save them.

  • This car is actually sold under 4 different brands names

    1. Holden Commodore in Australia and New Zealand. (Where its main markets are)

    2. Vauxhall VXR8 in the UK.

    3. Pontiac G8 in the US.

4.Chevrolet Lumina SS in South Africa and some parts of the Middle East.

All are fully assembled in Australia.

  • You don't need a redline with a rev limiter, tool. No Australian made cars have redlines anymore because they use rev limiters.

  • technically, its made by General Motors in austrailia, and the engine ad transmission are both made in america, so its still kinda american

  • American engine, but Holden's engineers change it to their own needs and specifications.

  • you act like this is the best car ever.

  • how?

  • you're over here talking about how great the pontiac is because it's from Australia. the G6 was from Australia too, and both had poor sales.

i've never seen a guy drive a G6, mostly women.

sorry, but GM is going to drop them.

  • that doesn't make it the best car in the world, but yes, australian cars have consistently been better than their american counterparts. and the g6 isn't australian, it was based on the malibu, but slightly smaller.

  • australians invented that sporty truck a long time ago. except our version looks more old compared to theirs and we only started coming up with this idea now,

  • if you pause it at 1:21 it looks like a 1995 pontiac grand am i getting one just because it looks like my old grand am those's were good carsthe 3.1 v6 never lost a race now i think about it mybe thats why it's sitting at picka part now oops oh well rip 1995 grand am

  • "GM engineers" - I know for a fact that the Australian people who designed this car would cringe if they knew of being referenced like that. FFS just admit for once that the car is so great because Pontiac didn't make it!

  • Seriously who hires these guys to do car reviews? Pontiac trying too hard with exterior and interior design? Wrong, they havent been trying hard enough since they stopped production of the trans am WS6. That car looked good inside and out at every angle and the ram air didnt just look good it was fully functional unlike the current G8 ram air. The GTO was very ugly and boring like pontiacs have been for years. Just look at the zr1's styling its awesome but to some too much but thats the point.

  • Pontiac didn't design the G8 or GTO... -.-'

  • if i didnt live in australia and i lived in the states and owned this car i would prolly some how try n get them holden ss front bar sent over state side. The pontiac grill is shit not only did it wreck the commodore it also wrecked the matrix

  • Amen, that pontiac grille is hideous

  • yesss the holden grill looks heaps better than the Pontiac one, but its good too see a quality aussie built car on the US roads :)

  • true dude

  • too heavy.. like a boat 3995 pounds with no passengers, it doesnt matter how much torque it makes, moving 2 tons isnt easy.. on any other car 360 and 380 of torque will give you 0-60 in just under 5.

  • awesome interior...but the exterior went downhill!!!

  • be thankfull you prick, alot of cars are gettin rounded off and turning into pussies, this one is nice, has the power for the guy, and the space for the wife. win win.

  • Thank You Holden for allowing your Commodore SS to be produced with the steering wheel on the left side!

  • I'm glad Pontiac is finally starting to finish their designs, now that they're on the verge of destruction!

  • the holden front end looks much better the pontiac grill looks shit

  • Best... ever? That is either amazing or amazingly awful. Good for Pontiac though! I can't believe I'm actually looking at a Pontiac after all those awful Grand Ams and Grand Prixs polluting the road.

  • is it true if you guyz drive this car for few months like when your car get near 50,000 miles, the car goes crap and you need to get it repair nd more shit?

  • Are you kidding??

My friends 1998 Gran Prix has 170,000 + miles on it and it runs great.

  • the reason that it isnt a two door, is that its based on the holden commodore, a car which has been a 4 door sedan/wagon for the australian public since the 1980's. there hasnt been a coupe version made as of yet.

  • They made a Monaro a few years ago (2 door version of the commodore, it was sold stateside as the GTO) They have also made a 2 door prototype of this car. Type in "Holden coupe 60" into your you tube search & you'll find it.

  • it fast and cheap

  • now this is a car, its got balls !!

  • It's a nice car, but the fact of a four door sedan with a Corvette engine just doesn't sell it off. GM should have gone with a two-door, instead.

  • They tried that already. Remember the 2004-2006 GTO?

  • Yes, I remember it. I think the GTO is better just because it's a two door.

  • Really, the GT is basically four door GTO... when it was in development they were actually considering calling it the GTO. However, the GTO coupe didn't sell that well. I remember the first time I saw one, the first thing I thought was that it looked like a sexed-up Grand Am.

  • They are. It's called a Camaro SS.

  • Pontiac dosn't make the G8 or the two-door GTO, There made in Australia by Holden as the Commodore and exported and sold in the states as the G8 and the Monaro as the GTO, production of the Monaro was stopped in 2005, and at present Holden dosn't make a 2 door variant of the G8 or any coupe in there line up

  • either way its still made by GM, which owns holden and Pontiac

  • By the way, if anyone wants to see these cars racing en masse and battling it out against Oz designed Ford V8's then do a search for 'V8 Supercars' and for some bone jarring spills do a search for 'V8 Supercar crashes'. See ya. :)

  • This 2008 VE Commodore / GT G8 is a product of Australian AND U.S.A. engineering & design. It's built for proud people who live in big countries & people living in small countries who envy those of us in the big ones. Lol. It's all good people. This is a Aussie designed & built car using Australian & United States technology & Holden in Oz is owned by GM of the US & we Aussies are proud of that fact. Just buy the damn car & ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF IT like I am doing. Thanks for your time. ;)

  • @Aust2008 so true brother :D

  • @masterjedi89 - Thanks mate. The Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars race is on this weekend in Surfer's Paradise. I can't wait. I'm not going, just watching it on TV but like I said 'I can't wait'. :-P This year Will Power has persuaded a lot of the Indy Car driver's to come over and they are co-driving with the likes of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes. The Indy Car driver's are not used to these cars and the circuit is a tight street circuit so there's goin' to be heaps of 'drama'. Bring it on!!!! :-)

  • @Aust2008 haha nice man. ya i live in the states so this is the closest thing i can get to a holden. cant wait till i graduate college and i get this car as a little present for myself. love all the top gear vids on you page. one of my favorite shows! although they do bash some of my favorite cars (like the corvette) i do agree with a lot of their reviews. Do you have a commodore?

  • @masterjedi89 Bear in mind that in 2013, Holden are returning to America, this time wearing Chevrolet badges. The Lumina and Caprice have both been sold in in the Middle East as Chevrolet badged Holdens. The rumours now are that they are going to be allowed to hit the streets in the US under thse badges as civilian cars, not just police cruisers

  • @masterjedi89 - Just thought I'd mention that the Gold Coast race will probably be broadcast on one of the sports channels in the US but it can be viewed online on Bigpond TV. If you want to check it out it's on Sunday at about 2pm Sydney time which is between 8am and 10am US time. Do a search on Google using the phrase 'V8 Supercars live stream' and choose the Bigpond TV link. I hope you watch it and let me know what you think if you do. Take care mate. :-)

  • Hey, I'm an Aussie who has just sold his 2003 BMW 5 Series and purchased a 'Holden VE V8 Commodore Clubsport' which is essentially the Pontiac G8 GT in Oz. I took the Holden (Pontiac) for a test drive and I was seduced. It is a true Muscle Car. Most of you should know that the Muscle Car tradition is unique to Australia and the USA. Both our countries have been pumping out big, powerful works of automotive art for decades.

  • the 09 camaro V6 is puting out 300hp I would get that instead of getting this overpriced grandprix

  • wow i honestly cant believe you just said that. first: a grandprix is front wheel drive and sucks. second the camaro and g8 are two totaly differnt cars. third: have you driven a g8? i have and am buying one after owning an 05 sti for two years and i must say the performance is impresive for a 4000 lbs car. DONT BUY IT IF YOU WANT A SPORTS CAR. ITS NOT A SPORTS CAR! its meant to compeat with the 5 series bmw and charger.

  • MY buddy actually has the grandprix gxp with the same 5.3 motor and brembo brakes as this car so I would say it's the same car with a new look

  • too bad the G8 has a 6.0 liter engine and this looks hell of alot better has better handling and probably has better MPG

  • 1. the g8 gt has a 365 bhp L76 6.0L v8

the grandprix GXP only makes about 270hp to the wheels

2.the gp is front wheel drive therefor its not on the zeta platform. the g8 is rear wheel drive and is zeta which just so happens to be shared with the new camaro you are boasting about.

3.the gp gxp is the same price as a g8 gt. so how is the g8 an overpriced gp if it costs the same?

4.please before you go bashing, at least know what the fuck you are talking about. until then shut your mouth.

  • woah the grand prix is the same price as the g8!?!

why would anybody buy the grand prix?!?

  • perfect...

    nothing..less....

chit... pontiac has always messed with corvette peps...

the 98 firebird ws6 had the vet engine and even ran faster than it.. without the vet heads and ecu... it used pontiac heads and ecu with some intergrated features and its own headers/exhaust and trans/drive... they will always do works together, thats why they both are so tight...

chit.. lol my moms pontiac minivan has tuned port ingition, off the vet technology.. lol.. 1st gear in that van goes to 50

  • Kewlios

  • Pontiac G8 Engine = Pontiac GTO Engine

  • GTO = Corvette technology

  • = fast as shit lol

  • I rented one for the weekend for a drive to montreal. What a sweet car!! The handling is just awsome, even for a v6 base model it moves like a beast. This is my next car.

  • sssiiiiiikkkkkkkk

  • I just want a good car. You fail for caring about where the car is from.

  • It seems to be all downhill for you buddie. The 2009 Camaro is based on the same Zetta platform as the Commodore (G8). 90% of the car is designed in Australia. Just like 100% of that Pontiac is designed and made in Australia.

  • it doesn't matter to me anymore actually i just sold my ford and bought a new Mazda 6 its best car i ever bought and it made me realize that my ford was a peace of shit

  • mazda 6 is the same as the ford fusion.

  • like most fords (mustang) **

  • Don't know how to break it to you ... but the Camaro 2009 model is being largely engineered in Australia.

  • The Camaro is also being designed in Australia as well in America.

  • yea if that was the real SRT8 n stead of the fake one trying to make tha G8, G8 can stand achance if it was runnin up to the SRT8

  • As of right now, we have to make due with the automatic in the G8 but not for long the GXP will will throw in a 6spd and beefed up 6.2L engine....401hp, rear drive, sport sedan, American?! this is a fantastic start for good ol' rear drive V8 power that this country was lacking for awhile. Sales should boost up, and pontiac should see younger drivers in its showrooms, something that they havent seen inawhile!

  • This car is nice! I might consider getting it one day...

  • hell yea...and im a honda guy and i think the same

  • I am a diehard German-car driver, and i must admit, this car is absolutely amazing! now, all it needs is a 6spd manual gearbox borrowed from the vette' and its sold me. The only car in its way of my decision is the 07' Audi S4 with the 40v V8 rated 340hp and Quattro fulltime AWD.

  • It does have a six speed here in Australia, if its not there yet Im sure its coming..

  • Finally, an American car worth considering... but it was imported from Australia.

But nevertheless, it's a good start.

  • love it

  • is it available with a manual? if not I'll pass

  • The 2009 GXP model will have a tremec 6 speed manual as an available option.

  • It sorta looks like a GTO, oh waaait...

  • idc whatever anyones says

    the g8 is badass

  • Actually it will beat a charger R/T and it will give an SRT-8 a serious run for its money. As for the looks, to each their own.

  • The voltmeter and oil pressure gauge reminds me of that from the old 6000 STE lol. Great car..WILL be my next one after my Grand Am dies.

  • Love it! I have some all season 18" wheels and tires for sale if anyone is interested too. New. We are on aftermarket. YOu just have to drive this car to fall for it!

  • it's already out too :]

  • I wonder if they'll may a G8 coupe, or G8 GXP...

  • the front end looks good ion the commodore, but video does not do this front end justice, in person, it looks like it eats babies. Especially in the graphite grey, trust me, I own one

  • Hahaha, this car eats babies! :P That's how bad ass this car is.

  • NICE!!!

my friend and i both drive pintiac g6, i have a gt. then last year he got a gt, and next year i am getting the g8...gt.

  • No mention of this vehicle being designed and built in Australia by Holden. But then again, it serves Holden right for being a bunch of sell-out cunts, selling this vehicle for more than $20k cheaper than the RRP in Australia.

  • hey guess where that engine was designed? O that's right, it was designed by Americans in America.

  • why does he keep saying pontiac designers? this car is completely ausi with a different front clip. and if you ask me the 6.0L v8 should have more than 360hp. the srt8 charger has a 6.1 w/ 425hp. something is wrong!

  • In AUS this is a good looking car, what have they done ?

  • look up a VE holden commordore

  • I love this car this car screams my name i drove it and seen the everything and i really like it i dont care where it is from or what it is trying to replace this is my car!!

  • omg what have u yanks done to the front end of the VE..u guys have seriously FUCKED it that looks like shit

  • It's designed and built and Austrailia. Here in America, we could never create such an exciting sedan. Granted, it's a bit bland compared to the Commadore VE or even it's Vaxhaull VXR-branded counterpart.

  • I've heard better music in a porno movie

  • I love this pontiac!

  • I want a base hp of at least 400hp.

  • Then wait for the G8 GXP. According to this months motor trend, it will have 402 hp and a 6.3 liter corvette v8. Also, brembo front brakes, a 6 speed manual available, and heavily bolstered seats. All for around 38 grand.

  • Um? Pontiac built?

They never go near an American factory. They are built in a car factory in South Australia buy an Australian car company called Holden.

We have had cars like these for years. We have an earlier model from 2002 sitting in our shed.

They are actually called "Commodores" in Australia.

    The "Holden Commodore".

  • Ummm, holden has not been an "Australian" car company for a while. Although most of the engineering was done in australia and it is built in Australia, it is still owned by GM.

Don't get me wrong, I am a Holden fan (I live in Sth Australia) but I think GM Global diserve some of the cred for allowing the rear drive platform to continue (and to let them build it in Australia)

  • Pontiac GTO didn't sell well and they are taking it out of production soon. What makes them think that they have a winner in G8? GM should stop telling people to buy American because they are importing piece of crap car built by Holden Australia. that doesn't make them any different from other foreign imports. as far as the look of the car goes, its too vanilla.

  • This is what you call Australian engineering at its best 'THE VE commodore"

  • The G8 is a VERY nice car. My wife and I looked at one the other night, and they look really awesome up-close and in person. My wife wants one really badly!

  • Well, I always wanted a GTO but hated that the trunk was, well, "truncated". 4 doors has its advanatge too. Shame it has les horsepower though. You would think with it being heavier, it would have MORE Hp then the GTO but such is life. I do not like the Outdated Altezza style lighst either. that was hot in 1999.
