  • Anybody notice that this marks one of the early appearances of Rosita?

  • I remember watching this with my sister as a kid and annoying my mom with this song. So many good memories! =)

  • I can't tell if that version is a full-bodied Muppet because you see almost all of his back, or not. If not, then that's one HUGE live hand puppet

  • aht if his trunk ahd a dick

  • fucking filiponasfjnmksd

  • THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! I always sing it and smile. Man, I have such a lot of time for Sesame Street, I'd just sit there right infront on the screen, silent for that half hour, thumb in mouth :-)

  • THIS IS HILARIOUS

  • Cookie monsters voice <33

    this is funny! <33

  • This is awesome! Whenever I get writer's block, or am stuck on a concept, I watch this and I cures me right away!

  • He worked in the Furry Arms Hotel.

Baby Bear: Oh, that's the Elephant Elevator Operator.

  • omg....i have missed this...omg...so great...

  • Dave must have liked Mexican culture. He usually had Gonzo doing Mexican acts and cry "Ariba!" now and then, didn't he?

  • gosh he's CUTE 0_0

  • i remember this!!

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • I love how they all point at 1:11 :)

  • Is finding this song, thanks!

  • You can tell its Dave at the end...He tended to scream Oley when ever he could.

  • You can tell it's Dave from the start. It's basically a lower, less hoarse version of Gonzo.

  • I could hear hints of Bo the Stagehand in that elephant's voice.

  • So timeless...Thanx for posting man...This is one of the many Sesame street songs i don't think i'll ever forget, despite how long ago this wuz...WOW!!

  • I LOVE this song, what a cute elephant!

  • Hooray for Otis the Elephant Elevator Operator!

I want to spend a night at the Furry Arms Hotel just to meet him and take the stairs!

  • WONDERFUL!!!!

  • This brings back good memories for me. I loved that elephant and this song is so catchy. :D

  • Try watching the German version. The German horses weren't so lucky. The German version doesn't say "I could've been a jockey", it says "I USED to be a jocky". Poor horses.

  • So am I. I think the horses would stampead out of the damn race track!!

  • Adore!

  • er.......... not really

  • This was my FAVORITE!

  • I don't think his career as a pilot would've taken off.

  • i used to cry when this was on!

  • This was my absolute favorite when I was a kid.

  • Does anybody notice that the first time the elephant stops at the lobby the people want to go DOWN? The other times, the elevator stops going up, which makes a lot more sense. Following traditional Sesame Street patterns, this building is supposed to be in Manhattan.

  • I still sometimes get to urge to sing this in elevators. Ha.

  • 1:56 Get in there!

  • Too True. But this skit was made in 1992.

  • Ah! Thank you for this. Every so often I just break out into this song^^

  • A very rare Dave Goelz "Sesame Street" performance! Thank you!

(PS--I once was going to write a "Muppet Show" outline where Gonzo hears Beauregard singing this song, and tries to make him a rock star.)

  • OH MY GAWD THANK YOU. I've seriously looked for this video for years. And here it is!

  • Thank you sooooo much for posting this!!!! Totally takes me back, yay!

  • Thank you! I've been looking for this song for MONTHS!

  • One of my favorites! Thank you for posting!

I'll have this in my head for the rest of the week. Yay!

  • my sister thinks that rosa [the ugly green thing] looks like dryer lint.

    it kinda does.

    :))

  • When I was little, I thought this was the funniest thing in the world.

  • dude, who thinks of this stuff? I mean, it's totally genius, but completely abstract

    OLAY!!!!

  • i agree!!

its so random, yet so clever and rememberable :D

i want to meet the genious' behind these storylines and songs!

  • The Elephant Elevator Operator - making people take the stairs since the 1960s.

  • i love this when Rosita on here

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!

  • That brings me since i was in daycare when i saw it. boy what of these days

  • OMG! I've been waiting for this one-well technically I still have to wait because my parents' computer is slow-but I'm so happy that this one has been uploaded! I only saw it once but the chorus has been stuck in my head for like forever!

  • Does anyone else notice that the China Shop clerk (from the sketch where Simon Soundman goes to a China Shop), is there?

  • This is like one of two Sesame Street characters Dave Goelz ever actually performed! I remember reading Steve Whitmire said Jim Henson wanted to keep certain performers separate from each show, and Steve and Dave he was wanting to keep separated from Sesame Street.

  • Well, that makes sense which was why we rarely saw Jim and Frank's characters in street scenes in the 80s. They were needed for projects with Muppet Show Muppets. It was probably the same way with Dave.

  • YAY! This is my favorite Sesame Street Sketch and song that I love. Thanks sawing14s! You are my hero!

  • I loved this as a kid! The elephant's voice here sounds much better than Joey Mazzarino's grating Elephant voice. BTW, at :37, you can see Rosita!

  • I have to agree with you on the elephant's voice in this clip. Joey's elephant voice is annoying. Also, this was back when the elephant was just a large hand puppet (which made it more enjoyable), and not full bodied.

  • Haven't seen this one in forever! The only thing that I remebered was the chorus and Rosita being there.
