many artists influence each other, mostly by pure accident, there is a collective conscious and people such as artists and musicians are more in tune with it. people who have never even heard of each other create similar melodies or paintings, BOC & Tycho are similar, so are Mozart and Beethoven (to a philistine like me) so are Flying Lotus and Teebs.... but that dosent make any better or worse than the other, jus sekkle ya badminds.

Saying that Tycho is better than BoC is like saying Oasis is better than the Beatles (maybe not to that degree, because Oasis pretty blatantly copies the Beatles). Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that BoC paved the way for Tycho, as well as a ton of other artists. I think it's a bit much to say that Tycho copies BoC. He is definitely heavily influenced by them, but I think he takes his music in a his own direction, so it's not a blatant copy but his own take on their idea.

I wouldn't have connected this shit to Boards, it sounds a lot different. Boards never really uses that type of synth, it's more the waning analog minor sound.

BoC was around first, they've been around since the mid 90's if I'm not mistaken.

Check out ROYGBIV, Music is Math, Chromakey Dreamcoat. If you want more of their stuff *similar* to Tycho, check out their album Music Has the Right to Children. Also, if you like that, check out Bibio. Not IDM or ambient, but his sound reminds me of Boards of Canada, production wise. Song structures are more hip-hop and folk oriented as opposed to electronic and ambient, but it's still amazing.

@Envee211 This. Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi by Boards of Canada are two of my favorite albums ever. And Bibio's Ambivalence Avenue ranks right up there with them. @Fardoreza You might also check out Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works (85-92) if you haven't already. I have cranked out copious amounts of homework to those albums.

Tycho has his own playlist on anything I have, BOC does not. But so does Bonobo and Blockhead :). Kinda like Aphex Twin, you can listen to the whole cd, but you have your favorites and ull be skipping alot. Unlike Tycho. Thats all Im saying

@kenrben Sorry dude, have to disagree with you. BoC is, on the whole, weird, trippy, and quite unpleasant to listen to. I used to kind of like them, but I haven't touched their stuff in years. With the exception of Roygbiv, Dayvan Cowboy, and Over The Horizon Radar, I wonder why I ever bothered with them.

Tycho, on the other hand, is pure, unadulterated bliss. Nothing but peace and tranquility throughout, massively superior to BoC.
