Even if that were true, intentionally cutting into a blockade; even with good intentions, could be considered an act of war. They all knew the risk and wanted this to happen in order to send a message out.
The message that they sent to the rest of the Arab world was "we are helping each other out" and to the Israel government it was "We can break your blockade and if you attack us you look foolish, if you let us by you look weak".
