  • You picked a good 'un.

  • The first band I ever saw live, back in the 80's. If you can't tell by my handle, yes this is my favorite song of all time.

  • @TheOceansize72 ----- my email address also has oceansize in it. this band singlehandedly got me through college in the early 90s

  • 1986! Fuck my hat!

  • *dances*

  • wow . this is what pure talent is when your poor and doing it cause you can. lovely .

  • Jane's Addiction at this point was like a live wire connection to the universe.

Perfect combination of energy unleashed for me.

  • This was the first year I experienced Janes in Long Beach Ca. They opened up for Dramarama and I got to hang bavck stage with them

  • Very good early Jane's. 25 years almost to the day.

  • that dave on guitar? doesnt look like him

  • @mummylips

You have to remember Dave was still in his late teens here.

  • @mummylips

That's Dave in his metal teenage stage.

  • No talkin'. All action.

  • they have lost the magic....there was something special about their music back in the day...now it seems like they write just to make money.

  • @enahcs true, but it's still better than a regular jobby wobby, true?

  • whew...that's some heavy mojo there

  • i love this lyric since i was kid

  • Damn, they were so RAW & BADASS then!!!

Ocean Size...hands down the best Jane's song ever!!

  • an other example of following one's "true Will".

  • at 2:17 seconds it's as if Perry has a wife beater tan-line, and even the grand vibe of the lights can point it out

  • BEST BAND EVER

  • best janes song!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You live forever JA.This is before my time and you guys are ahead of your time.

  • @MegaTruefan i guess you're right on time then huh?

  • yaaaaa nice uyaaa fuck aaaaa

  • it ain't easy livin'

  • haha I have this show on cassette.all sorts of reverb and feed back and echo threw out it still great sounding just all psychedelic.

  • People need to stop talking about how "ripped" Perry is, Dave Navarro is now "ripped", Perry is and was and always will be simply skinny with very low body fat.

  • @ryta1203 Exactly, he's a good shape but it's not muscle, just low body fat.

  • @ryta1203 perry's body is the epitome of sexy

  • @VENUSxINxFAUXxFURSx1 In your opinion. I wondered if that would change if he was just some dude and wasn't the lead singer of what is most probably one of your favorite bands.

  • @VENUSxINxFAUXxFURSx1 In your opinion. I wonder if that would change if he was just some dude and wasn't the lead singer of what is most probably one of your favorite bands. BTW, I love the band, they're great. I even saw them recently at a large venue and it was still a good show.

  • Perrys still pretty ripped for his age lol, and that's because my friends he surfs. Wanna stay in shape your entire life, take up that hobby.

  • @shane31lv He's not in that good a shape, he's just skinny. His low body fat stems from being a severe drug addict.

  • perry was so ripped

  • this is better than the vevo video by far!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG IS AWESOME MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!

  • I really like this fuckin' song is awesome LOVE IT!!!

  • navarro at 19 years old?

  • Dave still wearing his speed-metal haircut :) Cute

  • Check out Dave has NO tats or piercings at this time! I say he didnt need them to be cool! Too bad Perry got all strung out!!

  • @AZRacer2000 hes still badass even with all the tattoos and piercings

  • No talk, and all action.....FUCK YEA........

  • yo know 'gallina de piel'

  • Was this before even their debut EP was released?

  • Just saw them last night at the Roxy...its 2010..and it just astounds me that the band has endured. Well, it doesn't astound me: it makes perfect sense. They're one of the best rock n roll bands after the 70's. Period! They were amazing as usual...and I was thrilled to be able to sit on stage and not get fucked with by bouncers or security. I love you Perry..always will!

  • This sound should have killed the likes of Poison. No accounting for taste...

  • It looks like that audience member is giving perry head at the beginning of the song.

  • This > any rap

  • Seems impossible to believe doesn't it. But yeah these guys really were doing this back in the age of Kenny loggins and Lionel ritchie. Talk about being ahead of your time.

  • no way..86? C'MON

  • Nothing's shocking.

  • Is that really Dave navarro under all that hair? He looks a whole helluva lot better since he cut it and grew the neat facial hair. Great vid, it's so rare to see decent quality video of them from back in the day. You can't get this stuff no more that's for sure.

  • Perry fuckin owning it again, killer shit right there.

  • @seekah1 I saw him last summer in ireland the man has still got it

  • @thewalrus12 I bet. SO bummed I couldn't make aussie earlier this year.

  • Better than Justin Bieber.

  • @brodericktv true true

  • i like to find the original video, is fantastic!!!!

  • PERRY!!!!!!

  • Cannot belieeeve how stong PF is vocally. Navarro plays like some rock veteran. Oh, 1MusicConnoisseur you are one lucky gent. I was 11 yrs living in Buffalo, NYin 86'...now I am 34 living in LA and there ain't nothang like this going on in these parts. What a time to be part of the punk-hardrock-funk-ambient type-fusion happening in the west coast...so so so so lucky

  • It is heart-wrenching to say,but there are 2 options for a band like this either they stop after their peak even though it was short&intense, because that grit, rawness, and hunger are based upon their life experiences that will never be quite replicated 5, 10 years down the road. How can you do better than Ritual especially lyrically? You either need to stop or a bandmember needs to die to establish that legacy that they have. They all survived and managed to give us the music form 20 yrs ago-today

  • Holy, Holy, Holy Sh*t! I am speechless. I can't believe how phenomenal they were in 86'-Can you imagine how many gaping jaws there were that night standing, watching that show in 1986! 1986, guys-we are talking flourescent clothes, Whitney Houston&Lional Richie on airways, Dirty Dancing-I have been following them from 90-present-but this is simply timeless music right here-isn't even congruent with the time period. You would be inable to figure out when that song was made in the last 25 years--

  • oh yea ,and one more thing, after Steve avery left it was all over .Thank you Jane`s Addiction you left a mark on my Rock and Roll Psychy. And Perry before you were Farrel ,it was fun surfing at haulover beach inlet (Miami) with you. Also so cool how you drank a bottle of wine with my sister backstage. You are a rock and Roll Demi GOD!

  • Who is Steve Avery?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Inside Joke With my Miami boys! Thats what we use to call Eric after too many Bong Hits . Kinda similar to today..... Happy Birthday Robert Nesta Marley { Lion of Zion }.

  • Comment removed

  • Unfortunately they were your classic shooting star . They peaked early and HARD !!!!!!!! they were hungry then and for maybe another 2 years....but then after that they didn`t have quite the same majic . I saw them a few times after that ``Nothing Shocking``Lala Palooza ....still amazing but...............not as raw and spontanious ! Rock on Perry Bernstien! Rock on! Oh and Dave what hapened to you . You are not as cool as you were as a kid !

  • Perry was a whirling derbish Navaro was a Guitar Vodoo Chile . They were zeppelin esqe.I was leaning on the stage freaking out the place was electric.Ive seen alot of great shows in 33 years but that was from another world , they were hungry then .`` I would for you`` sickest live Janes song ever and their version of ``sympathy for the devil`` Haunting . The place was vibrating with sexual energy . Utterly insane. I was leaning on the stage simply transported . Fucking Insane .I tells yA !!!!!!

  • i saw them at a club on South beach in (1986)owned by Ron Wood If I recall they played all early stuff mainly the whole xxx album . Wow to me it was insane only 900 people there. The energy was off the freaking hook!!

  • Thanks for the vintage footage - made my day.

  • By this time in 1986, they were already signed to Warner Bros. after receiving several offers from every major record label in LA after playing countless clubs in the area. They wouldn't release their first album til the following year, which was a self titled live album. Sheer genius! They were such pioneers and so ahead of their time like Iggy & The Stooges.

  • i was made with the heart of stone

to be broken with one hard blow

omg this video RULES! 86....love IT

  • awesome stuff....never saw these guys live...too bad...saw Porno for Pyros though... good front man

  • 1st time i hear i had 14 yrs old, great sound and i will finally see them live in november in Sao Paulo - Brasil the Rock city!!!!

  • dude, same thing...weird seems like a lot of fans become fans in their early high school years

  • It just doesn't get any better than this song!

  • god, they were so good. hard to believe this was recorded 23 years ago. they were so far ahead of their time.

  • Perhaps 10x the band of any others at the time. Including all the Seattle bands at that time.

  • you could not be more correct.

  • This looks like one of the sickest shows to have ever happened on the planet.

  • I was in the 6th grade when this was done.

  • i wasn't even idea.

  • i wasnt even born!

  • gain something else

  • wow i cant believe you would even refer to that, get a life dude.

  • haha lulz

  • thank you for posting this, this is excellent!

  • u bunch of dummies change ur diapers

  • Awesome song he is HOT HOT HOT

  • Awesome I love this song and Dave smokes on the guitar. I loved me some Jane's Addiction back in the day.

  • who's playin lead g? navarro?

  • no one moves you man, no one tries

  • ah this is one of my favorite songs of all time. kick ass version of it, thanks for posting this!

i would kill to be able to see them back then, too bad i was in kindergarden LOL

    anyway, thanks again and cheers

  • Yeah I was minus five in 1986 so no dice there... At least they're touring again now! I've watched some shows and yeah the energy is not at the same level but they still kick ass!

  • yeah, they are going to be in denver next month with NIN. I could care less about NIN but i'm going just to see Jane's! I was wondering how much they still rock tho, i mean they are pushing fifty by now right? they are still one of my all time favorite bands ever so either way it will rock...

  • Check out their shows at La Cita, El Cid, etc... They're on YouTube. They're different than in the 80s-90s and they're tuned down a half step but they still rock.

And I agree... NIN is cool but I'd be lying if I didn't say the only reason I'm going to that show is to see jane's addiction

  • Wow, it really has been 23 years. Makes me feel old. But yeah, saw them play live around this time. Most intense rock show I've ever seen. The walls were dripping with energy. Great fucking band up until '92.

  • 91 u mean.

  • my god, me too!

i saw them at a sold out madison square garden, during a small tour of large arenas, just prior to Lollappaloza 1 which i also was at in waterloo NJ.. it was just as they became a bit "mainstream" with there video of been caught stealin on mtv. the die hard fans at the show, like me and my friends, cursed that song because they felt they were losing the band. we did lose them but the world was never the same.

  • SOOOOO incredibly ahead of their time. For a 23 yr old song it still rocks.

  • not really my ass.

  • @jdbarbour804 23 fucking hell

  • Look at the state of Navarro's hair!

  • Was this really at the Roxy? It looks like shows they did at the time at a club called The Scream, in the basement of an abandoned hotel on 9th and Grand in Los Angeles. They played there nearly weekly... I swear this looks like one of those shows... where perry had his shirt off, and was spinning his head of dreads like snakes in the strobes while we were tripping on acid, then climbinb up to the alleyway to melt into the concrete... man, I remember this all so well...

  • stage is to big for the roxy... so I think your right!

  • waaaao!!!!!!!

  • Oh how I miss LSD and all the Jane's that came w/ it!!!!!! Damn

  • WHat, the Dinosaur Jr tour together, chit, did'nt think i would come back from that one, one of the best half memories of mine for ever!!!

  • Dude, I was there with my green gels too... hanging out at the scream watching Jane's Adiction, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and other cool bands of the time... the Lorries came through there once. I miss that club scene... We tripped there every friday and saturday night. I could swear this show was in the basement of the old Scream (when it was first on 9th & Grand). Those were the days...

  • 1986! i was eleven years old and didn't like music . only liked n b a urrrrah!

  • wow...ocean size from 1986, completely out of control....hasn't been a band with this much energy and creativity since and doubt there ever will be. I really fucking miss these guys.

Perfect version of my favorite song.

  • I saw these guys open for iggy pop in the late eighties at a small venue in orlando called visage...been a fan ever since, what a show

  • This song is liek PERFECT for Supernatural (the Cw thursdays @ 8 /7 central)

  • how can u resist not bangin ur head to thi song, its fckin evrything hard should be

  • Perfect song for driving around backroads burning one. Perfect.

  • Far out.

  • bang on! navarro is jimmi pages and claptons son

  • How did they manage that?

  • it was a three-way

  • for the good times!!!!

  • Brilliant...just fucking Brilliant...

    so POWERFUL...

I miss those guys, thank God they existed.

  • feast your eyes on the mind-blowing genius that will not be seen again in this britney-spears infested endless landscape of mediocrity that is popular music these days. and perry, go back to drugs and lose the stripper wife please

  • Tottaly agree with you man...But Perry s too old now, these were the good old days...Now there are other good new days...:)

  • Yeaaah! Jane's Addiction rules!

  • daves solo at the end is better than on the album

  • Great clip... Thanks for posting!

  • it just occurred to me that dave navarro, being born in summer of 67, was only freshly 19 at the time of this recording, if this is in fact late summer 86. Holy fuck! I know this was their very early days, but still... WOW!

  • thats not dave navarro in the back is it? was he in the band at this stage?

  • yup, navarro was in there

  • This band is better than that band, and so forth and so on. When will stupid people stop comparing bands to each other? Sometimes I can't believe that morons like that still exist, and then I remember about Metallica fans. I guess it's not so far-fetched after all...

  • my favorite band

  • they gotta be like 18-20 yrs old here...this and up the beach on nothing shocking...awesome

  • Yep

    6/7/67 = Dave's birthday, so he was 19 :)

  • whoa! crazy,i didn't know thats what 6767 meant.

  • We have the same B-day, he & I. Just different years.

  • There was no more unique and innovative rock band in the world than Jane's Addiction in the mid - late 80's>early 90's.

  • Perry sings like a GOD!1!!!!

  • Sorry gringoculero, I agree with you on most points; however, I don't think Korn did anything except spawn the whole new metal scene. All of those bands, Korn included, do nothing for me. Jane's had a ton more substance and it was much more organic. In addition, their song writing and playing is tons better.

  • wow.

  • More please more! Some of the best early footage from this band ever and it sounds perfect! Janes Addiction truly inspired the next generation of music in the 90s.

Sadly the band has lost it's glory days but their first 3 albums will never get old. Even the new album Strays has some of that classic energy they once had.I will always respect, love, and admire the band. At that time in my life there were like family and Perry nearly a god to me.

  • Heavenly.

When I get there, Perry will be singing up the beach for me, dangling from a cloud, playing a harp.

Thanks Dave, Eric, Perry and Steve for blessing the world with your combined essence.

Only people that evolutionized what happened back then are maybe korn and deftones.

    mighty thumbs up!

  • I saw them open for Iggy in DC In the 80's they rocked the house.

  • janes was so ahead of their time. in 86 all there was hair bands and bullshit music. nobody had a sound even close to this. GREAT BAND!

  • this has to be one of the greatest songs ever

  • 80's, 90's, 00's, doesn't matter. if you ever get a chance again (slim chance now) - go see them. they're one of the best live bands period. this one is very oldschool. like right around when they started.

  • Fell off my chair...typing with my hands in the air! Saw these guys a few times. Sometimes they acted like they had been playing the same songs for 20 years, not always though. Gotsta luv dis doe.

  • look at the crawd, they can't believe what they was looking to!

  • awesome

  • i wonder what the glam bands of la were thinkinking of them.... if i was axl i wouldve been like holy shit!!!!

  • Here's what Axl thought: "I've always been a fan of Dave Navarro, to the point that when we got signed, I had a Jane's Addiction demo tape [laughs] and was actually trying to convince the record company, "No, no, no, no, I suck. We suck. These guys rock!" And I was trying to get Tom Zutaut, at the time [at Geffen], to sign Jane's Addiction, and he was actually in negotiations to sign them at one point. I was just into Jane's Addiction."

  • holy fvck! i didnt realise JA was so old. i thought it was a mid to late 90s band and 2000s. so doesnt sound like 80s music. quite ahead of its time, theres not much 80s that sounds like that.

  • Their original run as a band was from 1985 until 1991.

  • lol

  • is that dave under there?? lol

that was awesome thanks. and i agree the quality is surprising

i love the way perry shakes his head and the hair follows..

  • i agree, sac is the man, thx for posting =)

  • This is one of my favorite JA songs. I miss this line up. JA will never be as good again.

  • thanks man you've uploaded some great shit

  • wow....thats actually pretty good sound quality for it's time. check out dave's hair!

  • Janes belong to the late 80s and early 90s and should have never reformed.

    This is amazing.

  • fuckin awesome, you're the man sac, keep them comin if ya gottem....86' janes = why music sucks now...what else can you ask for?

  • priceless

  • love it
