I know the tale of Nilsson is tragic but we all need to remember that the last 15 years of his life was very happy for him!! In love and 5 more children becoming a loving father and husband!!
growing up with Seaside Heights,NJ,way ,way, way before MTV,when pinball machines gave you 3 games for a quarter and you got 5 balls per game, when "jump into the fire"was blasting on the boardwalk, miss those days, but the music brings me back
I got this album when I was 13. My older brother was dating a girl named Joy and they had just broken up. The whole family rolled on the floor laughing when this song came on.
Harry was alcoholic..He loved music..I suspect it was a way to be someone else. He worked in a bank and passed by the building that had recording booths and decided to go in and play piano...He did some studio work there until he figured he could quit the bank. His music was appreciated worldwide. Glad he found a way to give of himself and create controversy. Thanks for posting the music.
After listening to Nillsen's songs , over and over, I like them all a lot. I think he was gifted and talented. But I also think he was schizophrenic. Every single tune has another entity calling the shots. An imaginary friend, "me and my arrow".
I love it when someone smugly "psycho-analyzes" creative artists. Yeah, we're screwed up, but then again, those who aren't social "misfits" of some form or another rarely produce ANYTHING memorable. They're too busy psychoanalyzing others to develop their own creative side.
@Alan62651 it is only natural for a fan to put a subjective spin on things in order to try to relate the artist to themselves... we all do it at some point and if anything it's just a way of showing admiration for the music. :)
If you haven't got an answer, then you haven't got a question. If you never had a question, then you'd never have a problem. If you never had a problem, well then everyone would be happy. But if everyone was happy, there'd never be a love song.
I think Harry was a classic depressed, codependent. This is why many of his songs were about brokenhearted relationships, with kind of a confused "what happened?" bent to them. I totally relate with many of his lyrics. I don't think he ever did figure it out. He blessed us with his music but so sad for him.
Harry was The Beatles favorite artist.....mine too! "..come mere Roy I wanna make you feel all clammy inside.."....and god bad good bad good bad good bad......Classic!!!
@NotEasilyRegimented Don't know what you said. I'll say right on anyway. Yeah! I'm out on a limb. Doesn't matter. Everybody goes back to the place they came from.
@lonedoghowling Choose a path. Any path. As long as the path you choose has "heart". You can even change paths if you want, as long as the new path has "heart". It doesn't really matter which path you choose, they all lead nowhere.
Thanks for posting this. A friend played this for me in 1975. My name is Joy & I felt like I was listening to an obscene phone call (no, it's not obscene, but that's how I felt). Anyway, I think it's funny.

This classic country song with that twist of humor and intelligence shows how talented and versatile he was.
