  • His voice is great!

  • amazing

  • Auto tuned or not, I love them. Nuff said. :)

  • Dear The Fray,

Just to let you know, your songs are so addicting that I have to keep clicking the replay button. Therefore, I end up staying up later than I planned.

    Sincerely, Me. P.S. ily!!!:)

  • Isaac Slade's a genius.

  • This song makes me cry :') THE FRAY -> THE BEST !!

  • Man sollte den Sänger wegen Salzwasserverlust des Körpers anzeigen.♥

  • Looks like Kris Allen on the left playin guitar

  • Hate to break it to all of you but there is auto tune. Watch them play Never say Never in the same aol session and it's even more obvious towards the end of the song. Just click on the other videos under the title and it's there or it might be one of the videos on the right. I dont think it has anything to do with the band though because all of their other performances i know they don't use autotune. It's just AOL that does it

  • @FheTray1 the audio quality is bad too. doesn't make sense why certain parts are auto tuned and others aren't.

  • @ninhbac04 Yeah I dont understand either. He's an amazing singer and definitely doesn't need autotune. It just makes him sound worse.

  • @FheTray1 ya this is auto tuned...aol does it to their stuff despite what the band wants i think...issac doesnt need it and there live stuff is as good or better than their studio recordings without auto tune so idk...still an amazing band.

  • @superbb1127 so why is this song autotuned? because i have 2 other performances with them at aol and they're not autotuned.

  • @ninhbac04 idk...im not the one that auto tuned it lol..i just know that this one, never say never, and i think enough for now (but i cant remember) are auto tuned,,, i dont think where the story ends was,,,my only point that they dont need it cause if you watch any other live performance when they arent auto tuned they sound amazing.

  • @ninhbac04 haha you're really set on this not being auto-tuned.. not sure why but it is definitely auto-tuned. as the poster above said it wouldn't have been the bands choice. it's not a put down on the band, i love them, but this is absolutely auto-tuned.

  • @ninhbac04 also, the whole vocal track is auto-tuned. you can just hear it better when there is just keys and vox.

  • good performance

  • You guys are ridiculous about how much auto tune you think it has. Yeah, theres a little, but its barely noticable.... I don't see you lighting up T-pains songs claiming he's using autotune? gtfo please

  • @eetanderndyn well for one this isnt t pains video and two why on earth would he even use auto tone for this type of song? that was a rhetorical question by the way.

  • there is so much auto tune why did they do that ? at 3:25 it sounds bad they messed it up there

  • @mark0000000009 is there autotune through out the whole song?

  • @ninhbac04 Yes.

  • @ninhbac04 Yea they would have had some kind of effect on the microphone.

  • @mark0000000009 yeah in certain parts its just not as noticable

  • @mark0000000009 that's a harmony not autotune.

  • @mark0000000009 theres no autotune in this at all. i can understand you thinkin this if your not a musician or you dont know music but if you do then thats just poor judgement. The Fray doesnt use autotune, and the reason you think they messed up the autotune is because its actually him singing and he messed up a note, it happens all the time with musicians

  • @PWJR16 finally a musician that answers the question.

  • @ninhbac04 Hey, musician here: So he didn't actually mess that note up! He was 'bending' the note with his voice, much like a guitarist will bend a note flat or sharp to give it a feeling of suspense and dissonance - giving the song a measure of tension! And you can see with the lyrics that it goes well with the song. :) Also, it seems like he ties to make it more apparent that it is an intentional bend because he bends the note TWICE, instead of just once, then resolves it in the next phrase.

  • @PaulsDrumPad sorry mate, if you're a muso you need hone your ear a bit more, this is 100% auto-tuned. i love the fray and they are great writers, but someone has auto-tuned this, probably not their choice.

  • @ninhbac04 Musician here: He didn't actually mess up the note! :) He did what is called 'bending' the note, much like a guitarist bends a string to make the note sharp or flat (above or below the correct pitch) to give the note a sense of tension and suspense through what is called 'dissonance'. :) This goes well with the lyrics don't you think? He makes this apparent because he does it three times, then resolves it when he holds the high note right after! :) Its so good! No Autotune required :)

  • @PaulsDrumPad Thanks Paul. I don't hear auto tune either. But nay sayers on here defend him in the fact that he doesn't want to throw out his voice so he uses auto tune. That seems like long shot. I do know what you mean by bending the string of a guitar to sharpen or flaten notes. Thanks for the comment! I'm now going to add a 5 second annotation in the beginning of the video of your comment. Since this video circulates around auto tune. Thanks again!

  • @PWJR16 sorry wrong

  • 56

  • how many times can i like this???

  • auto-tune?

  • Why the hell is his great voice auto-tuned?

    *facepalm*

  • this sounds better than the official version that got auto-tuned...

  • ben the drummer looks a lot like bradley cooper dont you guys think so

p.s. i have the exact same jacket issac is wearing

  • that was awesome! :L and live theyre just so tight as a group! p.s loving the backing vocals

  • Lloovveee the fray!!! Amazing artist!!!

  • Sooo.. I'm not really able to hear the autotune everybody's talking about here. (Which means it's very discret, which again means the singer is pretty good.)

I've heard performers using it before, and it is pretty easy to spot it - so can anyone tell me when in this vid the autotune kicks in?

  • @SjuaatteniTi no one's denying isaac's a good singer, just because there is auto-tune doesn't mean the singer sucks, it can be used tastefully. if you've worked without auto-tune you would hear how obvious it is in this recording. listen to the first line or two and you can spot it straight away.. obvious words are 'found', 'god', and 'the' that's in the line 'where THE west'. but really you can tell from the first note in the first line.

  • @nickenthen meant to say 'worked WITH autotune'

  • Who cares if it's autotuned? The Fray are extremely talented musicians and the words are beautiful.

  • isaac slades doesn't need auto-tune!!!! >:(

  • @imurfriend77 exactly! but these "experts" that see this video is convinced it's not his voice.

  • @imurfriend77 Its not necessarily isaac's decision. Alot of times the producers at the studio dont give them a choice. But there is auto tune. I agree he doesnt need it but that doesnt mean it isn't there. That being said the fact that you cant really tell he is using it means he is a great singer. If he sucked at singing it would be all over the place and really glitchy

  • i thought this sounded auto-tuned a bit, i doubt the fray would use it live, but AOL production team might have added it subsequent. Still, everyone knows Fray dont need auto-tune, they rule!!

  • sounds like hes on a honky tonk lmao :P hes awesome <3

  • I love this song ...!!!!!!!!

  • is that a hybrid piano???

  • @Carapinay Not a hybrid, but an upright piano.

  • you just have to see some videos on the right of this page..they sing sometimes in places that is impossible use auto tune -.-' (for example: acoustic fox all access)

  • is the drummer suppose to be using the "traditional" grip? he's doing it in the wrong hand. not that i'm ragging on that, i've just never seen someone really in the big leagues do that.

  • wunderwunderschön (=

  • wow I love this song, but it's not even better than "never say never"

  • well never say never mate ;)

  • the fray is the best ever

  • such a great song...nice vocals and arrangements... \m/

  • you never left me no messages you never sent me no letters youve got some kinda nerve takin all i wanttttt

  • <33'

  • I wish someone would find me, I desperately need it

  • The true test of a song like this for me is whether I get goose bumps every time I hear it, no matter how many times I've heard it in the past.

This is one of those. Brilliant

  • Couldn't agree more!!

  • @ADoc1980 you too?

  • <333

  • Such a great voice!

  • if u look around today ull see that there are only a few bands who can actually really sing.

awesome live performance!! =D almost even better than the studioversion xD

  • he sounds perfectly like he does on the record its amazinggg ! , by farrr my fav song by the fray ;D

  • thats not true at all.... if you don't know how to use it properly it makes you sound crap, and if your a bad singer, it sounds bad becoz you won't be able to hit the right notes, so it will be auto-tunes, and things that are auto tunes have a robotic effect.. and it sounds awful....

  • no no basically rappers use the auto-tune so THEY are actually in pitch because they can't sing. take kanye for example if you even know who that is.

  • they use it to make a cool effect, not becoz they can't sing.... Kanye west didn't use it in his old albums did he? He only used it in his new one, he likes the sound of auto tune

  • Yeah! and that's why the Fray and Kris Allen's version of Heartless kicks Kanye's version's ass.

  • exactly dude!!! i hate that alot and make fun of it soo much... Now you can get famous for not even having a voice... you could use a stupid fake machine to help aid you.

  • thats not true auto tone can sound cool and help them it doesnt mean their a bad singer everyone in the music industry is their for a reason and tries their best

  • @ninhbac04 not necessarily. You still have to sing in pitch or it will sound retarded. It can be used in different ways also just to pitch correct singers especially in studios to sound absolutely perfect. Fray aren't a good band to use this on at ALL.

  • @gmillar6 Apparently there are musician experts that come on here and say that it's autotune. don't know why they would need to autotune when they can sing.

  • @ninhbac04 yeah it really destroyed his voice in this performance :(

  • @ninhbac04 wait so are you suggesting that this recording isn't autotuned? i love the fray, but this is absolutely autotuned with the response set way too high.

  • @nickenthen i really can't tell. i sounds like him to me.

  • @ninhbac04 yeah it's still him, but it's been auto-tuned. if you set the response time really high it will have that stair step sound that t-pain gets but the lower you set it the less obvious it becomes. to me this response time is still way too high, not so much that is has the t-pain effect but still enough for it to sound really unnatural. same goes for the aol never say never vid. auto-tune has it's uses and i'm sure they use on their records, it's no big deal, but here it's abused.

  • @nickenthen you're the only one to ever mention response time. I'm sure you know what you're talking about. But I have no idea what that is :/

  • @ninhbac04 just think of response time like a volume knob for auto-tune. the higher/faster the response time the more you can hear of the auto-tune in the mix, when it's lower/slower you will hear less of the auto-tune. that is only one way of auto-tuning though, where the whole vocal is tuned. there are other ways where you can just pull certain notes up or down etc. again i think it has it's uses and look, who doesn't like hearing notes hit right in the middle. but overdone and it's lame :D

  • @ninhbac04 in saying that, i doubt isaac would have wanted it to be this tuned, it doesn't need to be. i'm guessing it was someone else's choice.

  • I dont think auto tune sounds bad maybe on certain songs but they use it for the cool effect

  • live they sound even better,

    i love the piano <3

  • amazing.

  • i dont get this song

    whats it about any way

  • He is talking to God.

  • about what???????????????

  • He is asking him about where he was, and why He didn't find him earlier, about God taking all he wants, stuff like that.

  • thanks

  • @shutup961 this song is about suicide and what events could of prevented it like hes dead on the floor and asking where was god before all this when everything was falling apart

  • baldie guy

  • favourite band of all time

  • he's got a great vocalization in this perfomace!!!

  • this is my favorite version

  • idk but the Bb sounds really sharp! lol they need to give him a piano that's atleast in tune ! they're great!!

  • sorry i meant Gb lol

  • You would think they would give him a decent piano haha... He deserves A concernt Grand piano :)

  • sweet version -- auto tune is becoming so discreet its amazing, very natural sounding vox...

  • aol sessions are infamous for auto-tune but i agree it sound pretty nice
