I don't think that any copying or such nonsense went on as having read a little of both texts I think the characters themselves bear certain similarities, but does anyone else think Mark Gatiss as Ratty is a little bit like Davis Thewlis as Professor Lupin? I mean this in a good way as I'd elect either as a travel companion above many other noted names; would I opt for messing about on the river or sheltering from soulless fiends on a train? Who knows... as for chocolate or G&T...
After we read this book as a class, we watched this, it was good, but a lot of the scenes are cut on the DVD, and, every time one of the characters faces away from the camera, this annoying girl named Megan goes "Why do they keep showing us their buts? They're like "Look at my butt.""
Interesting that they always use humans in costumes like in the 1996 version. In the new adaption of Weta Animation (2012) the animals will be part motion capture/CGI and part animatronic, I've heard...
There's a nice, old-timey pantomime feel to having humans play the roles, like this one and the 96 version... I guess it's easier, looks good when done well, and allows the actors to emote better... where I come from, there live versions of TWITW in the Botanical Gardens during Summer, done much the same way. =)
