Why did Alan Clarke have to die back in 1991 after making three eye-poppingly brilliant movies? Scum (1979), this and The Firm (1988) that helped launch the careers of Ray Winstone, Tim Roth and Gary Oldman. Think what he could have done in the 1990s and 2000s.
