im 17 and i been drawing since i was 3 and started drawing manga when i was 13 now my drawing skills have advanced because when i started drawing manga i practiced literally everyday, ALL DAY from the morning i woke up til the moment i went to sleep...it did kill me cause it was hard drawing the face but now all that work payed off and it was worth it im ready to publish on yen press and become a mangaka! :D i have dip pens and ink but..i really need to get b4 paper and screen tone TT_TT
this video great...i wanna be a Mangaka too...this night,i gonna draw till i tired...!!!!! (Get my spirit up..i almost give up on drawing until i saw this).Arigato!
A question about Sumi no Hana(the water resistant ink), is it completely waterproof(to the point that you can use it with water colors without the outlines running) or is it just water resistant? Also it is it suitable for use with Copics?
This was really helpful like all of your videos , thanks . By the way I was meaning to ask for some time now , but what does someone need to do in order to be able to draw manga in Japan? I've heard there are schools like the one in Kyoto for foreigners . Are there more universities or institutes like that and what do they require for entering? Thanks again for the helpful videos :D
no problem :) at first, Nihongo 2 kyu level is required. in japan, there are many manga schools and about 10 universities which has manga course. as for university, "kyoto seika university" is earliest of them. also these are in osaka, tokyo, kobe, nagoya, and so on. they has entrance exam for foreign students. they don't require high skills of drawing but require you a language level. other schools are much the same because no classes teaches by english unfortunately.
@SamuraiMangaWorkshop Wow this is awesome and unexpected XD Yes I live in Athens and I'm 17 years old , glad to speak to you :P Ok the information was right in point thanks. Now, you said there is an entrance exam for foreign students , could you tell me what does it include and how can one apply for something like this ?
@Sygorian sorry, i said a little bit old info. nihongo level test is called "The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)" now, and more than N2 level is s required commonly. entrance exam is vary depending on university, i think. kyoto seika has 3-5 pages manga drawing and interview. another one i know has interview and paper test (essay). i will send you some advices later through message.
@SamuraiMangaWorkshop Thanks a lot for that , I would very much appreciate more info about this matter as it interests me a great deal :D And yes messaging would be best so as to not spam the comment section :)
Thank for the video. I have a question! I'm trying to find the best ink there is to start my manga but apparently the ink that sonds the best from your video is Indian Ink. I tries indian ink and it did seem light but if i use a nib pen will the ink be thicker??
though it depends on your pen nib and pen pressure, you can express fine line with india ink. but however normal india ink doesn't dry fast, and it rusts your pen nibs if you don't rub it away after drawing. if you are difficult to get it, dr.martin (black star) or pilot ink is also good :)
notice: when you draw colored manuscripts, please use water resistance ink.
sugoi!!! anata tachi wa sugoi desu. i want to go to nihon. i like to use pencil i want to be one of your students :) i have 15 years i can be with you if i go to japan next year?? anata tachi doko desu ka? i want to learn nihongo with you :)
@juanfjimenez9 thank you for your nice word. we're around tokyo. when you will trip to japan, you will able to visit manga school as visitor, though we are not nihongo language teacher;
I want to ask something. Do the school teach the students how to hold the pen? I mean, I heard there's a certain professional way to hold the pen, I wanna know how it's like.
Also if possible I wanna ask too about how many hours you spent for a manga page and how many pages on a day you can make. Just for reference.
@futarinokizuna the school doesn't teach about holding pen in particular. actually some of pro artists have their own holding way for drawing their best line or protection wrist, but the most of artists hold pen as same as pencil.
how many pages.... also it depends on person, on touch, on experience, and so on. pro have to finish until deadline anyway. if you draw about 30pages on monthly magazine, you can do it oneself. but in case of weekly magazine, you need assistants definitely.
We call Kabura Pen a "Saji Pen". They are same pen nib. We also call it "Spoon Pen". Saji = Spoon = Kabura, they are all the same, but have variety of names. Don't ask me why. I don't know, hehe ^ ^;
awesome very inspiring!! ^^
