@JoshAlfred27 There is always contradiction between thesis and antithesis, from that struggle a new thesis emerges Hegel calls it a sublimate or something like that), that keeps elements from the thesis and antithesis, is enriched by them, but, in its turn, brings about its own negation, an antithesis, and the striving begins again... (like when capitalism, the new way of production with its production relations, brings about the proletariat, which is its negation - that's how Marx described it
@Dewinthemorning why speak only of Hegelian Leftists? There was another group of philosophers that were great in the field of intellectualism, philosophy of religion, metaphysics and ethics called the Hegelian Rightists? I mean, especially Kierkegaard.. he founded his own school of thought like Marx did... the Existentialist movement.
Rather than use the concept "sphere" -- with its connotations of things and relations being, in effect, discrete [bourgeois] empirical 'objects' -- I prefer to think in terms of *context*: which is a _scoping_ operation that maintains the essential, non-linear and emergent relations between all 'things' -- while allowing focus on particulars. So then you can move 'up and 'down' (or 'in' or 'out' or whatever) in scope, in and out of various contexts, as needed, or as is appropriate to the...
Marx also wasn't the first to develop a materialist dialectics, of course. But he WAS the one to fully materialize Hegel's otherwise fully-developed dialectical system of Reality, stating: "With [Hegel] it is standing on its head. It must be turned right side up again, if you would discover the rational kernel within the mystical shell."
Regarding 'Synthesis': I like invariably using the concept 'Emergence' as an expression of it, because it gives a good sense of the evolutionary nature of these essential processes: and how new qualities emerge out of the quantitative development of antecedent previous and ongoing states.
As always, dew, thank you for the video, and thank you for its being a video on something of actual intellectual significance. It's a nice break from the rest of youtube. =^_^=
@TheOtherSide100 funny you should mention that mate as I was literally about to contact Dew to offer her a good outdoor microphone with soundproofing as the lady speaks beautifully but very gently and wind noise often intrudes.
So pm'ing you now Dew, get a good mic from me and up your production value, you've much of intellectual interest to share and hearing your voice better and dialling out the wind noise would I'm sure please us all?
Hello teacher, this student needs to sit at the front and give you a shiny apple in the hope teacher will give me some extra tuition as whilst I want to understand your idea's Dew I'm just ignorant of the philosophical groundwork you already know, it's like you are speaking in terms a station above my general philosophical understanding and which is a bit frustrating for me, truth be known, so maybe you could recommend some reading matter, especially with respect to Marx?
@Rockster969 I have something just for you. :) A Polish author Leszek Kolakowski, "Main Currents of Marxism, 1. The Founders". He was a professor in Warsaw, was expelled from there in 1968, then went to Oxford, and was a visiting professor in Yale and other universities.
@dewinthemorning Hello Dew, thankyou so much for that information as I would like to learn about Marx and not through the prism of the West's concept of the man and his philosophy.and that professor in Warsaw sounds like a good start.
@Rockster969 There are other good books about Marx, but Kolakowski is the best (that I know of).
I am sure they have his 3 volumes on Amazon. The first is about Marx (and the philosophy that led to his philosophy). It is interesting if you turn your attention to it. The other two deal with other socialists and communists, and with Marxism and how it was practiced in the socialist bloc. I got 2 of these volumes in a second hand bookshop.
Thank you for this video. I have a test tomorrow about Hegel and I did not fully understand the notion of the consciousness but I do now. Thanks!

Why is the antithesis negated?

@raniyang "SPLIT OF CONSCIOUSNESS" Do you have in mind a medical, psychiatric condition? I am talking philosophy here.

I guess you could say Hegel was uber Platonic.

Hegel's idealistic philosophy about consciousness sounds like very bad neuroscience. I suspect civilization reflects a lot of unconscious drives.

@zarkoff45 LOL, thumbs up for that joke! Somebody should have told Hegel that joke. Pity neuroscience wasn't developed then. :)
