Thank you very much. My thoughts and prayers are with Tom and family. All we can do is be strong and get the message out to protect our heads. God love us all.
I am Tom's mom and don't get on to see comments as much as I probably should. To Pirate- you are not a failure...I think those of you who are suffering with CTE are the bravest people I know. It's extremely frustrating that noone outside your circle and ours, understands this disease and as we wait for scientists and researchers to find a cure, please surround yourself with those who love you for who you are and the special person you have become in spite of your medical challenges. BEST!
I Have had 30 concussions as well my first was serious brain trauma at 6 months old. then about 30 concussions from age 6 to 30 years old. I have suffered the symptoms of PCS, TBI and CTE for as long as I can remember. As a child I did not know any different, and could not figure out why I was so different and have never fit in or lived up to anybodies expectations. have always just felt a failure. We need the doctors, caregivers and teachers to learn more about concussions and take it seriously
As of this date, Tom's 25 and has now had 25 concussions. His depression is fierce and it's difficult to know what to share with him. He remains hopeful for some relief, as we all do, but all of our hearts and prayers go out to all of you who have been following his story.
You can change Tom's name to mine. His story is my story. Concussions disabled me at 32. Although some of my symptoms are different I to know how it feels to 'want' more than what I'm capable of
Thomas began having daily seizures after his 23rd concussion, so is balancing new medications and having new testing done to see how to handle these new daily medical problems. He has had seizures in the past, but not for a few years have they been this regular. We never know what each new concussion will bring with it for symptoms. He's been very touched by folks who have contacted him. We hope you continue to educate others on the dangers of this silent disease. Cyndi (Tom's Mom)
Tom has received many requests for speaking engagements and interviews, but is focusing on healing right now. He has just sustained his 23rd concussion, unfortunately, after suffering a seizure at 4am.
