sick bike cap'n. I find it interesting that a lot of people keep the mid controls on the bike. guess they're going for the cafe racer look which is cool in it's own way, but i really dig the drag bars and forward controls. gives the bike and the rider a great stance on the road. well done sir. i have enough cash to get a sportster, but i believe that waiting the extra couple months to get a nightster will be well well worth the wait.
Sick nightster my friend. Is it alright for long trips? I would take mine from Miami to St. Louis Missouri maybe once a year, and then back. I'm about 5'10ish. thanks!
@ShadowedWolfPuppy I will also say this, ride a harley down the freeway doing 80 and you'll understand why a lot of guys go for the japanese cruisers when they want something comfortable to ride. Sportsters, wide glides, and soft tails all buzz, even with the rubber mounted motors. Some of the larger harleys are fine though. The only jap bike I've ridden that buzzes is a Vulcan 2000, and thats only because its a beast.
@ShadowedWolfPuppy And thats the problem here: "as soon as I am legal age". I've ridden all sorts of bikes from hayabusas, different harleys from sportsters to road kings, from my vulcan 900 to my dads vulcan 2000, and gold wings, and I've raced motocross for 10 years, and most of my MX bikes have been kawasaki. Kawsaki makes damn fine bikes, and if you don't own one or haven't ridden one you can't say much.
@ShadowedWolfPuppy Then I guess pretty much all the vulcans from the 900 (my bike which will run 80 all day with plenty of usable powerband to spare) on up to the 2000 are death bikes, all the supersport ZX bikes are death bikes, and the ninja 650, er-6n, versys, and Z1000 are also death bikes. Nice to know!
@ShadowedWolfPuppy I don't ride a 250 ninja and never will, but to say that all kawasaki bikes suck based off the fact that the 250 ninja is simply not a bike made for the highway just shows your ignorance.
Very nice bike. Don't have a 1200 nightster, almost bought one though. Maybe in the future, although in about 5 years I'm considering a street glide...
I've ridden through a swarm of bees, clouds of dust, even a chunk of ruble that came flying off the back of a truck and whacked me right on top of my head. Thing was, I was wearing a helmet, with a visor, unlike this old hippie.
@bailebunch39159 Awesome bike man. Im going to get one this summer, hopefully. But the guy is right, there is a weird illusion that makes it look like you are looking at the camera car the whole time! It looks crazy!
@purklefluff There is no helmet law in Illinois. It is a matter of personal pref if I want to wear a helmet or not. If I go riding in Missouri I wear a helmet. Not because I want to but because I have to. I think it is a crap law, but again a personal pref.
looks and sounds amazing!, i got a 09 nightster, and i want to change the originals pipes for those short shots, those are the best pipes for nightster. keep it up bro and ride safe!
I think the way these wannabe motorcycle guys wear bandanas and grow the long beard is really gay. What the hell? My neighbor bought a Harley and sure enough, he bought a stupid gay bandana to along with it.
@jacktaylor23 - yeah, i know that. seems like gallonon is the only one who understood me. Bandana on the head looks really gay. girls wear bandanas on the head, not guys. haha, i just seen the new southpark episode called "The F Word". very funny episode about harley riders. don't get me wrong, i want a harley like this one right here, but i aint wearing no leather or bandanas.
Shut the hel l up. next time you are in Texas please send me a message. I will meet you and crack your skull then run over your family with your bike. Then I'll just leave it somewhere.
Obviously my comment was just a shot of fun. Nice cheap shot comment. See you in hell idiot
You got some highway pegs on that right? Foot Position looks great! I was wondering how it would look without the feet doin a 90 angle straight down like they come stock. This video is selling the bike for me. Harley should pay you for it. Thanks
Wearing or not wearing a helmet should be a conscious DECISION made by a person. Thanks to some people on Youtube and the police people are reminded that it might be a good idea to wear a helmet. It's still a DECISION that an individual makes. Wear one or don't, just remember it's there.
How tall are you , i really love the sportster range but i am 6.5 and the dealer keeps telling me i am to tall.
That really sucks because i dont want to spend the extra on a street bob. And i like the sportster. I need it for the comute , thats only about 15 minutes one way
Stay off a sportster if you are over 5 foot tall. I sat on one and at 6'3 my reflection in the mirror got me off the thing fast. These bikes are for woman and horse jockey sized males. very small and light.
Sure, Sonny Barger is 5' 10" he rode a lot of Sportsters...but 6' 3" is pushin it for a Sporty I do agree there...I'm 5'8" fits me fine & mines slammed low...
You're really tall for the bike for sure. There are ways around it but you definitely are way tall for it.
I'm 6'2 / Lean and fit on it just a little big. With the Forward Controls I fixed the leg position but I'm still a hair big and with tall handlebars my arms fit fine. You gotta ride one and see what you think.
Hey buddy, I had the same dilemma. I'm 6'1 and 230 pounds. I wanted the Nightster so bad I didn't listen to the dealer. I love the bike so much and I had to have it. After a year I decided it was time to stretch my legs out. I traded the Nightster in and got a Street Bob. I can't tell you how much I love this bike. Check out my videos and see for yourself
your legs are up further than other peoples in their videos. did you have that done custom for you or what. ive heard that you could have it "set up" for like a grand. is this true? i am a newb lol
They are both really cool machines. The only thing I like better on the Iron is that it has more of the black on the bike, other than that I love my Nightster.
I want one of these bikes. I'm 6'3". I sat on one and admit I'm a little tall for it but I just like the bike so much. Any suggestions? This will be my first bike.
I have the Nightster and it is a blast. In my opinion, the Nightster is a city cruiser and corner carver. It's size and weight make this the perfect bike for those riders who want to take rides of 100 miles or less. If you want to make long trips, then move up to a Dyna, Softail, etc. I have the mid-mounts and it's comfortable, and I'm 6' 0" and 200 lbs. However, as with many things, it all depends on how you feel on the bike. In the meantime, I'm enjoying every mile.
what brand is your jacket? i had one just like yours but it was stolen, loved it but never bothered to check the brand been looking to buy but cant find it...thanks!
I love the T shirt: "I remember when motorcycles were dangerous and sex was safe." It's safety nazis like JoeJC that have tried to turn motorcycles into kid safe bumper cars. He won't be happy until my harley has training wheels and flashing lights on top of my law-bound helmet. it's a motorcycle, JoeJC, and if someone decides to take the risk of riding one, then they have the right to decide just how safe they want to make themselves.
those 1200 nightsters are some bad ass bikes..The vance&hines pipes make all the difference with the screaming eagle high performance..Wish I had one.
joejc. what does it matter to you how someone lives there life numbnuts.. how are you to tell someone how to be safe.. and if you dont be safe we the people will give you a 50 dollar ticket. i live in ny where the helmet crap law is still here. i never ride with it.. ever... ive only gotten 2 tickets. ill pay the ticket with a smile on my face everytime... personal right. just like a seat belt...
All laws are in place to benefit society and its citizens as a whole. There is nothing crap about this particular law hotkeppr7, it saves lives. Do you not realise that the helmet is the only thing which can protect your head in a crash? even at 20 mph, if your head hits off the concrete, you will wind up permanently and severly screwed up, both mentally and physically...has that ever occured to you? and motorcycle crashes arent exactly uncommon are they?!
"who are you to tell someone how to be safe"- out of the two us, im the only who is not a total moron...you're the guy who holds these ridiculous values for no coherent reason whatsoever. Do you refuse to wear a helmet in order to look more cool or hard...or does wearing a helmet mess up your hair?
This law exists to save individuals (like you) from themselves.
say that to the cop who has to tell some guy's mom that her son's head caved in on itself when he was knocked off his bike on the freeway.
But hey, it doesnt matter if his head looks like it was hit at point-blank range with a shotgun, the important thing is we protected his personal right!
Exactly, it's much more important that you protect the riders rights as an American.
If someone chooses to live in a manner who are you, JoeJC to decide otherwise? If a cop has to give the bad news and can't handle it, perhaps they should reconsider being a cop.
Applogies for a newbie question but... I've been looking at getting a nightster this spring and was wondering if I am too big for this bike (6'1" 235lbs)? I've been told it's too small for me from some people and from other saying it would be fine with forward controls. Thoughts?
Hey i am 6'3" 270 and its just fine for me, doesnt seem to slow it down either, fastest I've been willing to go is 110 mph on the I-10 without a license, probably could have reached 120-125 maybe
it looks like he's got forward controls. I have the mid controls on mine, I'm 5'7" and sometimes I really want to stretch out. It doesn't kill me or anything, even after hundreds of miles, but I'd still like to have the option of stretching out. You could go with some subtle highway pegs, but a bigger guy like you MIGHT be better off with forward controls. But, as it's been said already, it is completely your preference. Go sit on one with the mids and see how you like it and go from there.
If I ever buy new, this is my next bike. In 35 years, I've owned Hondas, two KZ900s, Yamaha and Suzuki dirt bikes, plus a Yamaha Virago. My friends and I rent new Harleys 1-3 times a year. I am 55 and not longer interested in the biggest, fastest or most comfy. I would love to have a an all black Nightster, with drag bars and shorty pipes to cruise downtown and meet the friends for lunch, on the weekends.
London has an incredibly high crime rate. It would be nicked (stolen)imediately. I've looked at possibly anchoring it down and covering it up etc etc but it's still not safe. Stupid Victorian architecture also allows for no garages so it would be exposed to the mob.
Those are the stock bars. I am in the process of getting a set of 4 inch risers and rerouting the wires. I will have video up when I am done. Thanks for the comment and ride safe...
Hi Baile, like i pm'ed you earlier, i got my Nightster at home. I still need to be calme with it for like 1000km orso. There is only one thing that bothers me, the REALLY narrow groundclearance. It rides in a sporty way -even stock- but i can't keep the iron foodpeg-pieces from scraping SO much. i'ld like to keep the standard pegs. I orderd the shortshots, but like that i can't take the iron pins of the pegs or it will scrape? no?
ok never mind on my last comment i jsut read where you said you height and weightnot so sure this bike is going to be big enough for me...im about 6'1 245 pounds
if you dont mind about how tall are you because ive been looking into this bike and im just not sure that it is big enough for me to be able to have a good long comfortable ride
The forward controls sold me on this bike... I was looking at the other other Sportsters until I saw your vid. The Nighster has that old school biker meets new age rat bobber feel which was what I was looking for.
How comfortable or uncomfortable are the V&H ant the forward controls,,,, isn't it to close the clearance between the pipe ant the feet?? The heat feels different than the original pipes, or it's the same
The Vance and Hines are the perfect pipes for the nightster. Feel no heat at all when riding and passenger say the same. The forward controls are great as well.
The only thing that really bothers me when I am riding long distances is the seat. I do not notice any vibration in the hands. I do have the Kuryakn ISO grips so that might take some of the vibration out, but the bike rides smooth. As soon as I get my new seat long hauls wont be a problem.
I had the dealer put in the Screaming Eagle Kit with my exhaust. I am waiting to get a 4 to 6 inch riser for my bars. I have the stock bars still on the bike. Thanks for the comments and ride safe..
Thanks for the comment. No I have not done anything to lower the rear yet. From what I have been told by the dealer that is about as low as you can get without getting into spending a lot of cash. You can use an air suspension and it will get you about 1" lower, but you are looking at about $1400. Ride Safe...
Im 6'0 210pds and have a 1200 custom sportster with forward controls and its perfect for me. I have some nice zbars with 4in rise and wider length aswell. But i would say 6'2 or taller would be pushing it.
Sick bike! Love the foward controls and blacked out SS's. Just wondering how big of a guy you are becuase some people have told me I may be too big for a nighster. I'm 5'11, 175lbs. What do you think?
I am about 5'10 and around 190lbs and everyone I have talked to say that the Nightster is perfect for me. I think that it is personal preference on what bike fits you, and it does matter how you customize your bike. If you like the bike customize it to make it fit your style like I am. Hope this helps. It is an awesome bike. Ride Safe and good luck.
Sweet! I was a bit dissapointed when I walked into the harley dealership to check out the nightster and they told me I needed a bigger bike. I think they just want more money from me, either that or they didn't believe in customizing. Thanks for the input! Peace.
Thanks alot for the comment. I will be posting a new vid probably in the next couple of days. I have added a few things to dress the bike up a bit. Ride Safe...
Cool scoot brother! So how does the nightster handle the freeway speeds (70-75mph)? Does the front end get very light on it?

"who are you to tell someone how to be safe"- out of the two us, im the only who is not a total moron...you're the guy who holds these ridiculous values for no coherent reason whatsoever. Do you refuse to wear a helmet in order to look more cool or hard...or does wearing a helmet mess up your hair?
This law exists to save individuals (like you) from themselves.
JoeJC 2 years ago 2
Does it vibrate much at that speed?
changling21 2 years ago
actually thats a perfect helmet. its about time people show people riding without one. should be a personal right if they want to use one or not...
hotkeepr7 2 years ago 2
say that to the cop who has to tell some guy's mom that her son's head caved in on itself when he was knocked off his bike on the freeway.
But hey, it doesnt matter if his head looks like it was hit at point-blank range with a shotgun, the important thing is we protected his personal right!
JoeJC 2 years ago
Exactly, it's much more important that you protect the riders rights as an American.
If someone chooses to live in a manner who are you, JoeJC to decide otherwise? If a cop has to give the bad news and can't handle it, perhaps they should reconsider being a cop.

Applogies for a newbie question but... I've been looking at getting a nightster this spring and was wondering if I am too big for this bike (6'1" 235lbs)? I've been told it's too small for me from some people and from other saying it would be fine with forward controls. Thoughts?
Rmatty39 3 years ago
Hey i am 6'3" 270 and its just fine for me, doesnt seem to slow it down either, fastest I've been willing to go is 110 mph on the I-10 without a license, probably could have reached 120-125 maybe
BRDOG1985 3 years ago
Nice to hear that a big guy can ride one of these. Do you have forward controls or mids? I
Rmatty39 3 years ago
it looks like he's got forward controls.

I would love to have a an all black Nightster, with drag bars and shorty pipes to cruise downtown and meet the friends for lunch, on the weekends.
sactown900 3 years ago
would you ever conside apes???
ridehard1977 3 years ago
nightsters are the shit but id rather take home a 1200XLC

sounds greath with the shortshots on it
FuzzBall1616 3 years ago
Been wanting one of these for years.Just can't buy and park it on a London street. It'll be gone in 2min flat :(
Deepurple88 3 years ago
y would it b gone ?
loganlovesher 3 years ago
London has an incredibly high crime rate. It would be nicked (stolen)imediately. I've looked at possibly anchoring it down and covering it up etc etc but it's still not safe. Stupid Victorian architecture also allows for no garages so it would be exposed to the mob.

awesome bike

sick bike bro. are those the stock handlebars or custom?
Tarheelzfan3 3 years ago
Those are the stock bars. I am in the process of getting a set of 4 inch risers and rerouting the wires. I will have video up when I am done. Thanks for the comment and ride safe...

F'n awesome! I cant wait to get mine in a few months!

I orderd the shortshots, but like that i can't take the iron pins of the pegs or it will scrape? no?

I have an '09. Any issues with your transmission/shifter getting stuck in-between neutral and first gear?
nissansaregreat 3 years ago
ok never mind on my last comment i jsut read where you said you height and weightnot so sure this bike is going to be big enough for me...im about 6'1 245 pounds
Xc01t0nX 3 years ago
Xc01t0nX , have you looked at the street bob? it has the 96ci motor instead of the evo 88.
its also a bigger bike in general , its also very badass..
i know you you feel tho! the nightster is a kick ass bike , but us bigger guys just cant get the full use of a smaller bike.
buckkn1f3 3 years ago
if you dont mind about how tall are you because ive been looking into this bike and im just not sure that it is big enough for me to be able to have a good long comfortable ride
Xc01t0nX 3 years ago
The forward controls sold me on this bike... I was looking at the other other Sportsters until I saw your vid. The Nighster has that old school biker meets new age rat bobber feel which was what I was looking for.
Divitacus 3 years ago
dam this bike really makes me torn up between jappers and harleys...
japps are so fast... but this is insanely kool
lobzdik 3 years ago
How comfortable or uncomfortable are the V&H ant the forward controls,,,, isn't it to close the clearance between the pipe ant the feet?? The heat feels different than the original pipes, or it's the same
hectorferyahoo 3 years ago
The Vance and Hines are the perfect pipes for the nightster. Feel no heat at all when riding and passenger say the same. The forward controls are great as well.
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
How's she run at about 75? Lot of vibration or nice and smooth? The old Ironhead isn't very good for long trips so I need a newer harley.
AmericanMuscle85 3 years ago
The only thing that really bothers me when I am riding long distances is the seat. I do not notice any vibration in the hands. I do have the Kuryakn ISO grips so that might take some of the vibration out, but the bike rides smooth. As soon as I get my new seat long hauls wont be a problem.
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
did you get a stage 1 kits?
Actually I have black nightster with v & h exhaust just like you have.
My next plan is for forward controls and z-shaped handle bars.
did you change your handle bars?
your riding is awesome, so I'm wondering what you got in your harley.
kjy1026 3 years ago
I had the dealer put in the Screaming Eagle Kit with my exhaust. I am waiting to get a 4 to 6 inch riser for my bars. I have the stock bars still on the bike. Thanks for the comments and ride safe..
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
Your bike looks and sounds awesome. I was wondering whether you had lowered the rear suspension?
normandycarpets 3 years ago
Thanks for the comment. No I have not done anything to lower the rear yet. From what I have been told by the dealer that is about as low as you can get without getting into spending a lot of cash. You can use an air suspension and it will get you about 1" lower, but you are looking at about $1400. Ride Safe...
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
Im 6'0 210pds and have a 1200 custom sportster with forward controls and its perfect for me. I have some nice zbars with 4in rise and wider length aswell. But i would say 6'2 or taller would be pushing it.
bL33d77 3 years ago
haha im 5'5 and 150 hows that? lol

Where are ur mirrors dude?
lockyb72 3 years ago
I have Arlen Ness minnie 4 points on my Nightster. I like them better than the stock. I can actually see more behind the bike.
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
Sick bike! Love the foward controls and blacked out SS's. Just wondering how big of a guy you are becuase some people have told me I may be too big for a nighster. I'm 5'11, 175lbs. What do you think?
RobBoudreau 3 years ago
I am about 5'10 and around 190lbs and everyone I have talked to say that the Nightster is perfect for me. I think that it is personal preference on what bike fits you, and it does matter how you customize your bike. If you like the bike customize it to make it fit your style like I am. Hope this helps. It is an awesome bike. Ride Safe and good luck.
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
Sweet! I was a bit dissapointed when I walked into the harley dealership to check out the nightster and they told me I needed a bigger bike. I think they just want more money from me, either that or they didn't believe in customizing. Thanks for the input! Peace.
RobBoudreau 3 years ago
Forward controls, V&H Shortshots in Blk....your bike is perfect!! In my book, this is the best lookin' HD around these days. Cooler then Fonzie!!
lockyb72 3 years ago
Thanks alot for the comment. I will be posting a new vid probably in the next couple of days. I have added a few things to dress the bike up a bit. Ride Safe...
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
Are those the stock bars or drags?
Cyberkhan13 3 years ago
Those are the stock bars. I am thinking about just getting some 2-4 inch riser with pull back to put on. I think the bars are very comfortable.
bailebunch39159 3 years ago
Forward controls are a must for me.
ToneNinja 3 years ago
do you have the highway pegs on?

No Highway pegs.
