you can't do a manual focus on the iphone, the iphone is like an 8megapixel canon powershot from 2002, 7D is way better and more pro and up to date. I like the Iphone camera, But i cant get that professional manual focus like in the movies or professional music videos, cant do it. IPhone camera is only an 8 mp powershot, Iphone is no DSLR.
No way that is raw footage from each camera. I have a 550D (uses same sensor as the 7D) and the video I get from that is much better. Either someone has post processed the footage from these or the 7D wasn't set up right. Most of the video from the 7D looked very underexposed so I guess that was he problem. And the last comparison between the sharpness of the leaves was just down to a bad lens or very bad focusing.
c'mon, canon fanboys, you just can't accept it when iphone makes you feel bad about extra money paid for your beloved dslr by providing some close enough quick regular condition video shot compared to 7D. stop bashing about megapixles, interchanegeble lens or burst mode , iphone is good too concerning daily video. @UsheeC It is good. Ultimately it is not the camera you use, but what is in front of the camera. To quote one of the greatest filmmakers of all time (Jean-Luc Godard): "There is no point in having sharp images when you've fuzzy ideas."
With all of that said, a good filmmaker is going to be able to leverage the myriad advantages that a camera as superior to the iPhone 4 as the 7D provides. There are some things that you simply cannot do on the iPhone which you can on the 7D.

Phones camera are catching up to professional grade bodies, whether or not they are shitty in comparison now is irrelevant, the fact they are increasing in power means they are catching up. The most used DSLRs out there have what 18-22mega pixles...

12mpxls are required for 8x10s at 350dpi (most commonly purchased prints)
Phones currently can output 12mpxl RAW on a high speed class 10 32gig microSD card
(And edit RAW with an App on the go which is more than the standard DSLR which requires a computer for editing.) Also the phone is cheaper than any DSLR by a long shot and attaching a pro lens is now possible.
@fredb3 my point is indeed quite practical. cameras with identical mega pixels can cost 5 and 6x as much as others. shadows mid tones and highlights are lost and gained, and then there's sensor size and low light capability and noise. nikon point and shoots have 16 mp, does that mean they produce professional images? nay. i agree they're catching up, but the consumer's unprofessional eye is deceiving them.
I can agree that, ISO shutter speed and aperture will be terms lost on consumers because they will be shooting mainly on the equivalent of auto and that a point and click on auto doesn't give most of the effects that photographers love in camera.

True, most of the time megapixle rate does not affect overall image quality as the maximum DPI most pros use is 300-350dpi, after 12mpx your just scaling the image larger and larger. However with boosts in mpx there have to be boosts in sensitivity and with that the sensor upgrades too out of necessity.
This won't vastly improve the clarity beyond Iso 400 but the tech is gettin better there too
My point was the pro grade is 18mpx, phones are at 14mpx.

I've amazing results from the worst of cameras. I'm not surprised by these results. However, for those watching who don't know much about photography this video doesn't show the whole story. In saying that though if what you want from a camera is what is being shown here then maybe you'll be perfectly happy with just the iPhone. Everything is relative don't forget.

Of course the 7D is much better but I'm really impressed how the iPhone footage sometimes even looks better at that resolution, simply because the colours look more friendly.

An iphone will never meet the full specs of a DSLR camera, but it doesn't mean that it isn't useful. I myself am an amateur who got into photography and video after getting my iphone...i know it's not comparable to a DSLR, but it's a great start for those who want to learn before investing in a good quality DSLR.

okay guys calm down. i have a 7d and i like this video because it shows ignorant people that you dont need to spend $1400 on a camera just to take selfies and simple videos. it shows that you should know what your doing before you buy a camera like this.

Of course the 7D is much better but I'm really impressed how the iPhone footage sometimes even looks better at that resolution, simply because the colours look more friendly.

Congratulations you have proven that you know nothing about cameras!! Low light? Rolling shutter? Dynamic range? Image stabilization? Format? Depth of field? Resolution? Modular ability? A million other things? The Iphone 4 is pretty good under absolutely perfect settings but I'm guessing you've never shot anything in your life worth showing.

film at night or low light . and you will find the different .
and so on actions photography ,sound quality and even frames per seconds dude , I have so many things to mention but it's not going to be understandable for others

@MJOD3 I think the whole point was to show that for amateurs, an iphone4(s) is a great pocket tool for those who are starting and want to figure out their style/creativity. An iphone will never meet the full specs of a DSLR camera, but it doesn't mean that it isn't useful. I myself am an amateur who got into photography and video after getting my iphone...i know it's not comparable to a DSLR, but it's a great start for those who want to learn before investing in a good quality DSLR.

@MJOD3 Yes, true. It would be very terrible in low light situations.. but you can always sync audio and it's outstanding if you don't want to or absolutely can NOT buy a 1000 dollar camera! Real Talk! The 4s is 1080p HD. This isn't even the 4s. And have you seen the new SLR mounts for the iPhone. This is some revolutionary shit we're seeing now.

@jbow674 If you think an IPHONE is better than the 7D than you have no experience in cameras. First of all, an iphone has no manual control over anything. Second the 7D has a way better sensor but because youtube only has 1080p comparing the 7D to the iphone is like comparing a diamond to a rock. So basicaly the 7D is better.

to be fair, This is quite a good comparison. People think its pointless just because the iPhone 4 is small and a 7D DSLR is bigger, If you look, There is not much different. The only difference was the 7D had a more cinematic look.
