SRV was, still is, and always will be one of the greatest and most inspirational guitar players in the history of the entire music industry. No one could ever match the unique styles he demonstrated. One of my favorite performances is when he performed Texas Flood behind his back at the El Mocambo. That was classic performance. His tragic demise forever left a dark void in the music business - a void that can never be filled. Stevie, thank you for all you have given us. Rest in peace my friend.
I had a free ticket to Stevie's last concert, never went. What a shame the way it all ended, but what I'll remember is the lives you touched while you lived and beyond. After listening to this song for hundreds of times, if not thousands, I don't know if it touched me more the first time or the last. Therein lies the magic.
You know Stevie Ray Vaughan is an amazing guitar and blues singer when he can make a grown man cry. I remember me and my ex step father watching the dvd with him and double trouble and my ex step father started crying. Probably because this song may have reminded him of an old friend but, if another man can make another cry by a song then I'm pretty sure he's one of the greatest guitar and blues players or any guitarist in general.
PLEASE EVERYONE CHECK OUT A FEW OF MY GUITAR VIDS. IM A YOUNG BLUES ROCK GUITARIST AND I REALLY WANT YOUR FEEDBACK!! CHEERS! PLEASE THUMB THIS UP AND HELP OUT THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE BLUES!!!
@jimmygattz /bro, did you lose your sister this year, if so, my thoughts go out to you in your loss of your sister/wynn richardson...this song is a story about my own life, I hope you find peace in your life...^5
My dad got me into blues and SRV, he passed on when i was 18. Im 25 now and the words feel just as strong as ever. This song makes wnan crack a beer out and say thanks to him for everything he ever did 4 me. SRV was tremndous, skilled with the strings and a sweet voice to make the strongest cry. Timeless
I remember when Stevie fell from the sky. My heart just dropped, the only thing I thought was from the Ritchie Valens movie, "Stars don't fall....This one did and if we had all the tears collected, we could fill Lake Tahoe. Stevie your Legacy will live as long as musicians play your music. We miss You Stevie, and always will. R.I.P. and God Bless.
I remember hearing this for the first time having a few beers in the bar with my buddies. We were playing pool at the time and I had to drop everything I was doing and just stop and listen. Stevie Ray Vaughans impressed me alot over the years but this song is so real and heartfelt, its a privlege to listen to. Its a damn shame what happened to Stevie but im nothing but thankful for the music he left behind. Thanks alot Stevie, you were one of a kind. R.IP
when i was 14 i discovered this song... i had no idea some1 could make me feel like that over a song believe it or not this actually helped through a very depressing time in my life years later... i love this song its my favorite of all SRV songs :)
@warley1138 The reason this song makes you cry is that huge unknown fact of this song is that this song was written and recorded before his death and it was a very tough song for the newly BORN AGAIN=SRV and the begining of probably the best blues christian music that was about to come from SRV.Everybody always assummes he is talking about a good friend and a drop of rain, not the case his reference is to the road and relationship he had with Jesus and the drop is the the blood he shed for us...
My sister was taking guitar classes in highschool and she was learning this song. She used to play this song really loud every morning before school. Good memories.
Excellent audio/video upload, much appreciated. One of my Top 3 favorite SRV tracks. Another legend (Dio, Bon Scott, Ray Gillen, etc.) gone way too soon. RIP Stevie !!!! \../
Man i hate that feeling when i srsly realize that Stevie is really gone. I really cant see him ever live or moan his signature or try to get backstage pass. Nobody can.
I remember the day the angels came for Stevie, the free concerts here in Dallas. When he left us my friend and I made a floral gutiar arrangemet in which the thank you letter from Martha,Jimmie,Connie,Tina & Janna read:'Thank you so very much for the floral arrangement you and your friend created for Stevie's service.Gob bless you.' I have the letter and had it made into a plaque I keep next to a candles I lite in memory of SRV.
i first heard this song when i was fourteen. my father had always been a huge jimi hendrix fan, and i only remember him ever saying one time that SRV was as good. i personally think theres no comparison. both were amazing, both went before their time. i cry every time i hear this song.
oh gosh. my dad introduced me to this song saying, "Wanna listen to the saddest song ever?" i said yeah, and next thing you know i had tears in my eyes. I still do when i listen to this. R.I.P.
My dad died when I was one year old and all he left behind was a great taste of music. Stevie Ray Vaughan truely is one of the best artists I've ever seen before and you can hear the emotions with every single word he sings.
every body misses you, me and my dad always will listen to this song together. You were the greatest artist i have ever listened to. You are a big insperation to alot of people.
@terryorr :thats unreal:a weird oddity in life, had the same experience watching Ratt open up for Poison.Fans sitting on their hands till the main attraction.its insane, repulsive and could put a sain person into an outerbody experience
I went with my girlfriend to see SRV in 1984. I went only to see SRV and she went only to see the main act which was the Moody Blues. It was a a bizarre concert. SRV kicked ass and nobody seemed to notice or care. The Moody Blues did their thing which looked bland and boring to me and everyone loved it. I remember being blown away by SRV's music that night and also feeling sorry for him. He seemed so amazing and so alone up there.
@hmmadewell hey man i am not trying to be a dick but every laundromat i have seen has had laundromat on the sign.so the fact that you spelled it wrong makes ,me think thats not true, if i went to one every week i would know how to spell it
Stevie, was such a inspiration with "real" life experiences which gave him the ability to actually feel the music with every core her picked the music flowed
through his body like water running down a creek in the mountains !!!! He was
living the "dream" that one day he would be on top but,his life was shortened by a twist of fate !!! The world is just not the same since, you have left us !!! May God continue to "bless" you, Stevie we still love you and will never forget you !!! Rock On !!!!
I knew Stevie for a while before he died, we did laundry every Tuesday night at the laundry mat across from David's Food mart. He was extremely sober at that point in his life, we sat on the washing machines and played electric guitars without amps. He thought I was funny. He showed me a lot of blues licks. So sad. He was a good guy.
I guess it could be about booze, but it never really alludes to it unless you interpret the main part a certain way. Seems sad enough though, cause SRV was an alcoholic...
as a recovering alcholic.. this song hits home just because you dont realize what you lose or have lost cause you live life lookin for the next drop.. I have been an SRV fan since i was about 10 even have the austin city limits on tape.... yeah thats right tape lol
This one really hits home, for sure. I think everyone has lost a dear friend in one way or another. For me, really, I just lost touch with the best friend I can say I have ever had, and that is how it remains, today. I went my way, he stayed behind, to make a reference to the part that really stayed with me from this song. I changed my old ways, he felt a reluctance to leave it all behind. Sad to see, but sometimes life's road forks, separating even the best of friends.
When I was seven years old my dad brought home a Double Trouble cd and popped it in for me to listen to. With tears in his eyes he explained to me how the man playing had died the day before after turning his life around. This was the first time I remember seeing my father weep in front of me. It stuck with me until I lost my best friend and brother 18 years later, and with no place left to turn for comfort, I found the blues, and I found it through Stevie. - Thank you for saving my life. RIP
@megalythe I found Stevie through my Uncle, and my life changed... forever... I remember where I was, when I heard he died.... a lonley kid, on a farm, in northern Alberta, Canada... just picking up the guitar, but I knew, I had missed an incredible human being.. I feel for your loss, I have had my own... but somehow, Stevie seems to get us through...
This is a nice tribute. Thanks for sharing it with us. Can't believe it's been 21 years. I was just discovering his music when he died. I was 15. I am now older than he was at the time of his death. MAN, what a lose for this world! I WILL make it to Austin, Texas before I die, Stevie!
@viewitmytube the SRV memorial is located in Austin, Texas. Auditorium Shores to be exact, on Riverside Drive, just west of the S. 1st St. bridge, visible in the background. This is where I first saw him live, for free, on a Wednesday night concert series performance in June, 1982, just before he hit the really big time.
He scared the bejeebers outta me with 'Tin Pan Alley' in the dark.
as far as ive heard and read, its about drug addiction. The drop from a needle. the words are so powerful though, it doesnt matter to me what the real meaning is - its about making up. Making peace.
Last time I played this at The Wayward Sailor Pub, I got two drink tokens for my "excellent choice" of tunes, I will play it again on the night we kick this years trip off
@chuckdevo right click on the i.p. address at the top, and clck "copy", on your f/b status, click link, right click and click on paste, then share, thats all there is to it. good luck
I love this tune! When I hear it I think of my grandpa. Sumtimes I just gotta bust out the guitar n play n think bak on all the memories I have of him. Stevie Ray is the best guitar player to have ever walkd Gods green earth!
He ate, slept, travelled, cried, rejoiced and breathed with his guitar. The man lived through his guitar. I have respect for every guitarist around, but Stevie Ray was one in a million. He was the definition of someone who easily would have literally died without music as his lifeline and got the chance to show it to the world.
And what an impact it had. I don't think he ever realized it, he just let the music do the talking.
@BlueEyedTrouble1 They disliked it because songs like this bring back not only the good memories but the bad ones as well. They can't handle there own guilt. Sad, sometimes you need a song like this one to remind you of what is important.
My daddy showed me this when I was a baby. I learned how to play this when I was seven. I'm fifteen now, and I can play almost all of his songs. He is, has, and always will be my idol.
Please check out my channel!!!! im 13 and SRV is my inspiration and i want to be a great guitarist just like he was!! SUB ME AND TELL EVERYONE U KNOW!
I remember the release of this song, as my younger brother, daughter, and I were there the day they put him in the ground, but never put him away. FOREVER, MY FRIEND!!!
theres a few things in my life that i regret and 1 of them is never seeing this bloke live. Sayin that not sure how often he used to come over to the uk if at all.
I am now looking and seeing how I was introduced to the great Stevie Ray Vaughan. The Greezy Wheels of course. We went to Bee Caves Road and watched the Greezy Wheels at some roadhouse out that way. We loved the Greezy Wheely and followed them around. They never became legends much like Nick Lowe never got as far as Elvis Costello. Stevie Ray tagged along with Greezy Wheels and got his start with that bunch of new age steppers.
I seen this dude a couple time at Continental Club in Austin 78-80, have to look it up. Too busy livin' the blues to look it up. Saw him twice as well at Fitzgeralds 81-83. I feel pretty much connected to what going on with his time. It's very emotional sometimes.
46 people were looking at the thumbs upside down! Been listening to this over and over again. Amazing song full of emotion by an amazing player that is still touching us all with his playing and influencing us all.
Stevie, You were, are, and always will be the greatest, RIP Brother.

It is rather unfortunate to think that such an amazing guitarist was lost 21 years ago.
May he rest in peace.

Awesome.

CamHawesMusic011 5 months ago
wow, 46 people disliked this?
This song is a masterpiece, you non soulful music haters
BlueEyedTrouble1 5 months ago
@BlueEyedTrouble1 They disliked it because songs like this bring back not only the good memories but the bad ones as well. They can't handle there own guilt. Sad, sometimes you need a song like this one to remind you of what is important.

My daddy showed me this when I was a baby. I learned how to play this when I was seven. I'm fifteen now, and I can play almost all of his songs. He is, has, and always will be my idol.
