  • not really all that interesting without all the other stuff around it ...

  • God bless Drop C!!!

  • He's rocking a subtle flanging effect.

  • i have never been more stunned by the number of dislikes. Any real helmet fan would love this.

  • Page learned guitar his whole life and he is a master. bimbopapwhatever thefuck neeeds to recognize!!!!!!1

  • just listen to whole song here /watch?v=lgHQwzEhf8g. And for those who says that page doesn't have any talent.... just try to make your own solo with this riff

  • Also he's the lead Singer dumass..not lead guitar

  • Sorry, but Page has always said that he makes the music in Helmet. He does the lead stuff on guitar. If you check out live concerts where they perform Milquetoast, Tic, Role Model or In the Meantime you will see that.

  • Anything helmet I love!! And this kicks ass!!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, this is extremely simple taken by itself. What matters is the end product...the songs...with the vocals, bass, drums, etc...the overall composition. That is why Helmet is good, great songs. This also shows that you don't have to play the most complicated stuff on guitar or even have the best abilities (which he does despite what this shows) to create great music that can make you famous or have a career. Create something that people feel, and you will do well. Nirvana also showed this.

  • Wow more than 100 people don't know that rock music doesn't have 2 be full of fret board fireworks and sloppy solos! This riff is simple yes but it makes a great composition!

  • I shat myself when I realized "dude didn't palm mute ONCE,,"

  • @S8OR its not that hes necessarily a bad composer, he's just not right for fpe really

  • Sweet, sweet guitar. H-S ESP with Wilkinson = win.

  • Your also an idiot!!

  • sounds like the 11 year old at a music store around christmas time messing with power chords in drop D tuning for the first time...

  • @Steviepth And with Dan, Kyle, and Dave it sounds like a Helmet song. My guitar playing is shit when I'm by myself but throw a bassist and drummer we sound awesome. Notice I didn't say I?

  • Funny how he is in one of the most influential rock bands ever and your not!!!

  • @vogtgrant1

im guessing you dont play guitar because you'd probably agree with me on my comment.

my band may not be as "influential" as them (lol) but we probably have a lot more talent than these guys. unless their drummer starts hitting 64ths and the guitarist starts playing things other than simple power chords in drop d, there isnt much of an arguement here.

  • @Steviepth post a video of your band, jagoff.

  • @coalesce99

I have one, if you dont like screaming vox then listen to the instrumental. its called the unconscious mind. ;)

  • @Steviepth

Dude you are a joke. I heard your "song" and it's hopeless. You can't play in time and it's basically just one big sloppy mess. Don't write foolish stuff when you're a hack.

  • The ignorance of the comment section offends me.

  • cool. power chords.

  • If I wrote a riff like that, I'd be ashamed of myself.

  • If this is all it takes to get famous now, between the buried and me is trying way to hard.

  • dude this sucks....

  • why is everyone dissing him hes from helmet they were a grunge band from the 90s he isn't shredding because that's not what he likes to do i think it sounds pretty sick

  • That had to be the longest 3 minutes and 37 seconds ever. None of that song made any kind of melodic sense. He should at least play in standard. Then it would at least look somewhat impressive. If I handed a guitar in drop d to anyone that has never played one, that's what I'd get. I don't really listen to this band, but seriously, they HAVE to have something more intricate than THAT to put on a channel dedicated to guitarists.

  • @PrismaticBlack by the way it is in Drop C

  • @jarek1283 My bad. I take that crap I said earlier back, then. Because Drop C requires way more skill than Drop D...

  • @PrismaticBlack If you are talking about the skills, he has a master in jazz .Page makes orchestra and complicated jazz compositions .............

  • @jarek1283 I don't see any evidence of him using basic musical training honestly. Melodically, this song is painful to even listen to. And most of the best guitarists have no degree in music, and in fact many of them are self-taught, Where are his other compositions. I would need to hear them in order to change my mind.

  • @PrismaticBlack Kid, you've got a lot to learn about music. Do a little bit of research on Helmet and you will have your answer.

  • @beansandcornbread Actually, I am quite knowledgeable of music. This just sounds atrocious. I've looked up Helmet. It's much of the same stuff recycled over and over again. I'm just kinda puzzled at how this guy has his own line of guitars, and is a featured artist, when clearly all of his stuff is unmistakably bland. It almost sounds atonal, but it's not. If it were twelve-tone music, it would actually have structural fiber. It's just random and unpleasant accidentals tossed around mindlessly

  • the only thing exciting about this video is the guitar

  • Helmet is simple, yes, but that's why it's good.

  • regardless of speed and technique, this guy's playing is just boring.

  • @or19937 to the untrained ear, or unintelligent ear, you could be both!

  • wow, this guy suck!

  • @Thr4sh4lot speed is not everything in subject: playing the guitar

  • I like his tone. I'm gettin a Hellraiser C-1 FR soon and a new camera lost alot in a flood. Gonna put some of my riffs on the Tube Babe! woot!

  • b tw, Coldplay has some very good music also. I've never heard a bad song from them, I lisen to all music from 9 inch to motorhead to Hank Williams.

  • jesus christ you people stop replying to this comment, the guy should have pick a better demonstration cause this riff just isn't interesting. In all fairness I've checked them out and yes they're cool as hell. I just can't believe this was the riff he chooses to play

  • If this was just some random guy chugging a drop D riff like this, most people wouldn't find it very interesting no matter how "tight the groove".

  • unmistakable guitar groove, there's a reason they've been underrated forever cause people don't realize it's not about jerking off on a guitar but creating a solid as hell riff that everyone in the band can expand on.

  • epic guitar tone.

  • WTF! hell I can play alot better than that. maybe why i never heard of him or helmet

  • @dhellbilly

    or you're into maintstream music..

  • @dhellbilly

i was right, you listen to coldplay, what do you know about guitars? they can barely play their instruments themselves.

  • @dhellbilly cause you are ignorante....this guy influenced a lot in the music back in the 90s ......and the band was made by talented musicians....making a song with a single riff sometimes is more difficult than palying thousands of notes!:!:!:

  • Shit

I could do the same with my eyes closed

She ain't no playing sum crazy shit

    C'mon guys

even a monkey with a mandoline could do that

  • 2:55 xd

  • with a few riffs he creates great songs, that´s real talent!

  • ppl must think you should use every cord in guitar playing? fuck that play the sound you want to hear... i tore all of my high strings off my guitar lol i hate the way they sound ill let other ppl do the soloing in there music i just like the massive sounding riffs like this i think it sounds killer

  • really... my 5yold can play way better than this.. even my wife can play a way better tune @ guitar hero than this... wat a waste of time..

  • Comment removed

  • @bimbopapasitoYa, your 5 year old and wife are so much better than Helmet. Can't believe I haven't bought the "I talk too much shit on Youtube" album.

  • @bimbopapasito I go out to watch people play Guitar Hero all the time. Screw seeing real bands play real music. I'm also into five year olds and wife bands.

  • @bimbopapasito guitar hero's for posers.. and your sons not famous like Page Hamilton and im pretty sure being 5 means he prolly cant play this well

  • why are 6 strings even necessary? he only plays the bottom 2

  • @benjamin112092 Yes..In this one song. Cant play every note on every string in one song...How bad would that sound? Do you even play guitar?

  • @miturbinizdurdy Yes sir. I'm confused about what your arguing? That using all 6 strings sounds bad?

  • This guy supposedly has a college degree in jazz guitar, but I don't hear it in his playing. All I hear is a bunch of downtuned, dinosaur-fart riffs. I've got to do more searching on youtube, and hopefully, there'll be a video of him laying down some tasty jazz soloing. If I had to go by this video alone, I'd be severely disappointed.

  • @6672rock hahahah dinosaur fart riffs

  • @6672rock fuck jazz, i want him at least do a nice blues rock solo, jazz being too high for him when watching this video (if you ask me).

  • I'm a former Helmet fan and I still have a lot of respect for their earlier albums. And when I still played heavy rock I myself mostly had Drop D tuning, albeit with more interest in the higher strings than what he plays here... But I mean, even if this may sound great on a record, I have to agree with the people who think this is not that good. As a guitar video there's not much to watch for 3 full minutes+.

  • wow this is lame lol

  • he reminds me my old guitar teacher :D

  • How does he get this tone? FPE, could you please help out? Anyone?

  • 106 ppl are dumbass soloists

  • Who is this tool? haha

  • what kind of guitar is he using?

  • @DoomVxC ESP Page Hamilton Signature model.

  • @DoomVxC It's his own signature model that ESP guitars puts out.

  • @pleaseutube Well Said. Helmet was my favorite band in the early 90's. Page rocks!

  • Regardless of his talent, this riff's weak.

  • @SvsDrums Why? cause he's got more talent than you?

  • see kids you dont have to be a shredder wannabe you can sound cool by being basic

  • Comment removed

  • He got a fuckng nice tone !

  • i think those pups are dimarzio tone zones.they are very under rated metal pup.chunk like a mother trucker.

  • Why badmouth Page? He actually came up with his own style and a different approach to metal. The same cannot be said for many people today.

  • good piece but hella boring

( ppl dont maul me with ur words....just my opinion)

  • If John McEnroe and Lance Armstrong had a son...

  • lol i think he has autism

  • I'll just say, yea it is fucking easy to learn and play that riff. But the guy plays with such an amount of fluidity that can't be beat. That said, he is trying to write songs, not win the guitar Olympics. And let's not forgot he is absolutely one of the forefathers of that drop-D riff style. Dude's been done & did all that 25 years ago. And let's not forget as others have already stated his whole jazz and composing movie scores thing. Step the fuck back suckers.

  • wow...that was fucking easy

  • @mIsErYsUnSeT000 AND.... Have you listened to Helmet - ever?

  • @scblorax haha thats an old comment. and yes...i hav. and i dont like them. but i mean...this IS insanely easy to play and is really boring.

  • fail

  • @pleaseutube but what i hear dousnt sound like jazz XD ok he may be able to play jazz i dont know him doin that but you gotta admit that hes not good at playin metal

  • so if i write a bad riff can i play on fpe-tv?

  • note that playing jazz and playing metal is fucking different

  • What i just watched was ... well .... Gash in one word. Give a guitar to anyone and they could play what he just played.

  • guitar alone doesnt sound so good... its more suited to play along with the whole band...

  • ...lol...@ the puppet behind the couch..

  • The tone makes this video worth watching

  • Helmet rules and Page has made some of the most blood squirting ass fucking riffage around

  • now THAT is some gnarly fucking tone.

  • I respect Page Hamilton as a guitarist and I think his on-stage rig sounds kick-ass.

But this video doesn't do his chops justice.

    For the haters:

You can't expect a series of power chords to sound awesome when it's isolated from the bass, drums and vocals.

Like nobody really wants to hear an instrumental of "Blitzkrieg Bop" with only the guitar going.

It's cool that FPE-TV features him, but they should've set up a backing track for him to go along with.

  • good god this is boring.....you dont have to be techinal and shit but this is like stupid

  • fucking boring

  • The ability to play fast and technical music doesn't make you a good musician. As much as I love bands like Dream Theater and Symphony X, I have much respect for Page and the rest of Helmet for keeping the spirit of the riff alive. It's not about complexity, it's about making kick ass music.

  • @pleaseutube not to be a dick but wouldn't he be able to do more than bar chords in drop D if he was so musicaly gifted?

  • wow he sucks

  • I think the problem is that something this blunt needs serious kit behind it and in the little fpe guitar room they only get a small amp or something.

  • those two cords hes playing sound heavier, thicker, and twice as powerful as anything you can prob play... Its not about how much shit you know its about how you use what you do know

  • Wow what the fuck is up with people hating on Page? He's a great guitarist...its all about groove. All these fucking idiots practicing sweeps all day long cant understand what makes a great groove.

  • i'm speechless when i look at all those dumb coments. whatever, i'll just go and listen to helmet, becouse they are supposed to sound good as a band, not a bunch of soloists. get over it.

  • that fact that this man holds a masters degree in whatever the flying fuck does not serve to justify, at all, the obvious reality that this is officially the worst metal riff in the history of God. seriously, this is the shittiest shit that could ever be shitted from such a beautiful guitar/tone.

  • All theriffs sound boring now but wait till you hear them with the second guitar , the bass , and the drumms. Holy shit xD

  • holy fuk this boring

  • LOL

step one: go to musical university and train in jazz guitar

step two: start an alternative metal band and play riffs full of power chords on drop-tuned guitar with one finger

    one big LOL

  • @immortalx50 Actually, Page uses a TON of jazz harmonies and scales in Helmet songs. Just...not this one. But the Monochrome album blows anyway.

  • boring

  • AHAHAHA!!!!!!

dun dun dun dun dun... LOL!~

and that string bending thing at 1:47, i was like O_O whaa??

  • @pleaseutube who cares what kind of qualification and experience and whatnot he has, he played a shitload of boring and meaningless stuff. that's it.

  • lol holy shit these "riffs" are sooooooooooo fucking brain numbingly boaring xD

soooo shit. at least pantera riffs sound tough and are fucking rad songs. this is just dreary shit.

  • Now I can sympathize with people like pleaseutube who know the true skills of Page, but my god.. this video is embarassing xD

I could teach my dog to play this. If he has a masters degree in music/jazz, why the FUCK doesn't he apply it?

  • @pleaseutube lol couldn't have said it better myself.

  • stop talking shit about Page! He's a legend!

Ever heard something 'bout Dropped-D chord/riffs/tuning?

Ever heard of something YOU achieved ....? Me not!

  • wow that is a boring ass song!!!! i know Page Hamilton is a good guitarist but why is he playing like fucking a beginner

  • He can stuff his degree up his ass, lame ass

    wanna be metal riff!

Like a bad episode of Streets of San francisco.

  • I love that ESP model. I wish they still produced it. Im not a fan of the relic look of the new signature guitar. Relics just aren't my thing.

  • These may seem simple. but when the whole band plays, it fits in perfectly with the ensamble

  • hilariously boring.... just my opinion, but ok...

  • I love Helmet..

but this guitar is easy as hell...

  • LOL at the cut out behind the seat!!!

  • Page rocks!

  • Holy shit!!! Maybe ESP will give me a signature model!

  • I used to see helmet on cable tv back in 1992-1994. i used to love music in the 90s as a kid i was in 4th grade and I used to be a big nirvana and I was a big grunge fan. but then as i got older i listened to a lot of korn and hardcore such as staind and all alternative music on the radio. rock out people

  • what the hell kind of tuning is that , i know its not the usual drop D

  • Drop D down a tone, sometimes ( incorecctly) called Drop C. It's CGCFAD

  • thanks

  • @ibanezbloke How's it wrong to call it Drop C?

It's D tuning with your 6th string dropped down a whole step.

  • Technically, Drop C is CADGBE - e down to C. The same way that audioslave and soundgarden use drop B, which is BADGBE. Drop C is an extremly rare tuning, but its out there. Drop D down a tone is really a much more accurate name for it.

  • @ibanezbloke Theoretically yes, but it's such a common term that has been accepted as the correct term.

Kind of like the power chord being referred to as a chord instead of a root and 5th harmony.

  • Exactly! It might not be correct, but it's the term used. I just think it's also worth knowing the technical name for it.

  • @ibanezbloke Yeah my friend was so confused when he got his guitar tuned at a shop and they set him up with BADGBE when he said Dropped B haha

  • well not sometimes...all bands that play cgcfad call their tuning drop C...what is the correct term for cgcfad then??

  • Drop D down a tone.

  • After Betty came out, Paige and Helmet lost their edge. Size Matters was a big let down imo...but GOD in his earlier years!!!!! HE was absolutely amazing. We used to joke around about his first Record Label..it was called "NOISE" .. and it was and it was some of the best metal of all time!! Paige i still love ya though

  • Page is one of the most gifted and under rated guitarist out there. I got the chance to meet him in 1997 and he sat and talked to me for close to 10 minutes. I have met a lot of musicians and I can tell you Page is one of the nicest down to earth guys you would ever want to meet.

  • @Homodeath

    Dito.

  • None of that makes any sense, at all.

  • Helmet is one of my favorite bands. I have seen them 10 times or so. What I dont understand is why Page changed his voice style on Monochrome. I do understand the desire to avoid making the same album over and over but when a band (or any artist) develops they generally dont care what the public thinks. In Helmets case their popularity was fading After - tasts and they probabally should have kept with the status-quo. Regardless there is allways a disc of theirs in the car.

  • people talking shit about Page, your shitty little new school bands probably wouldnt be here if it wasnt for this genius.

  • Awesome video.

Page is such a good and overlooked and underrated guitarist.

I like Swallowing Everything, but there are other helmet songs this tune can't hold a candle too, I think he just played this song because it is off of their latest album.

  • Oh this song is Swallowing Everything!

  • what song is this btw?

  • This is exactly what my 5 year old sounds like when he plays my guitar tuned to open E

  • How does it feel knowing your 5 year old is better at guitar than you?

  • Baritone guitar? oO

How the fuck can you get SO MUCH GROWL outta guitar? oO

  • nice guitar thats it ...

  • well this is just my opinion. youre fucking stupid

  • What is that song called that he plays after he says the FPE intro? I wanna try and learn it.

  • Does his guitar have a slight add of chorus or flanger?

  • yeah I'm pretty sure it does.

I was just trying to figure that out too haha

  • Spinal Tap?

  • Doesn't seem to be that great of a guitarist. Is he rythm guitar ?

  • you twat, because someone dosent masturbate arround with leads they arent good?

fucking kids nowadays think metal is some kind of game where you have to score as many points as possible

go play guitar hero you retards

  • guitar playing isnt just soloing you moron....helmet has a different musical vocabulary to today's shit being floged as metal

go on, be a musical bitch doing exactly what everyone ealse does with no feeling at all

  • so? and if a song only has 2 chords its still a great song...like Walk by Pantera, or i suppose thats not enough for your refned taste is it

  • grow up you idiot, rock and metal arent for you

  • Youre a retard, GeeYa. >this has got feeling. And if you knew anything about Helmet, you'd know whether he is rhythm-guitar or lead.

You don't know shit but youre judging over a guitarplayer you dont know. Now thats retarded.

    Moron.

  • By the way GeeYaBee, did ya know that Pantera sighted Helmet as a major musical influence. Listen to their song Rise and then Listen to Helmets Unsung. Listen closely and you might be able to pick up Page's style in Pantera's music!

  • Pantera is for pussywillows. Helmet is for humans.

  • @Markfly emo

  • @MilitantOldLady Walk has a very difficult solo. please don't compare him to DB. I like them both
