Please, my mother had all of her upper middle class white friends that encouraged her to divorce my dad, take him for everything and dump her kids so she could have a social life. My mother just cared about her image in the corporate world and sacrificed her family in the process. On the other hand, my fathers 2nd wife is from MX and encouraged him not to have anything to do with his past life including his kids from his previous marriage to my mom. What an idiot family I was born into.

I know she sounds awful, but her mom is scared. Scared of losing her baby and also scared of the unavoidable change. My mom was like this and maybe she still is but I thank God that he granted me the ability to really see my mother's needs. Plus, Ferrera's character at times is very immature and selfish obviously a movie with a lesson at the end. enjoy with an open heart and mind!

That's why why they come to this country (usually legal) so that their children will have a chance. Instead, she discourages her and belittles her daughter because she is jealous and self-centered. Just like George Lopez said, "The Hispanic race is a very jealous race".
