@DeliciousMike i have the same one but its not as in good shape. i have huge rust holes in the front fenders. i got the car from a relative and the left timing belt snapped so i had to redo the timing and put new belts on. once in a while the car tries to stall out on me even tho i have my clutch all the way in and my pedal is to the floor. the car always backfires as well. if you listen to the engine it doesnt sound like its running consistant. could my timing be out? or is my camshaft screwed?
first ask them for the cash if they dont pay call the auto inspector from your local DMV and if he dont get you your cash spend $10 bucks and take them to small claims court and the judge will get you your cash.
I took my pt cruiser into CRAPPY TIRE for a SIMPLE oil change... this was too hard obviously because they ruined the threads to my oil pan cap and now i have a plug that you have to tighten every time... it wasnt until my next oil change when i took it to mr lube because they are cheaper... which doesnt make sence to me.. and they told me the threads were comepletly cross threaded and it was a mission to get my old cap off..
In a court of law one must prove that what is claimed actually happened.
How can we be sure the Can Tire mechanic installed the timing belt wrong.Where's the fingerprints? How could you drive it home? Is the Subaru an interference engine? Anyway, I'll believe what you say. Computer codes won't save your butt if a timing belt breaks and your passing a semi. Maybe it's time to upgrade to a gear drive? Nothing is safe, but have a nice day.
@DeliciousMike Sad thing is... the garage knows they did it wrong they just know how to avoid paying you what was fair.Trouble is.. you set the car aside until someone could help you... if you had taken it to a Subaru Certified Mechanic you would have had a real chance at getting your money back... I realize you were in a bind and couldn't do so at the time... but thats what it would have taken for CT to be forced to own their mistake!
One more point. What if i get a few hundred stories from people who have been ripped off? no proof. No law suits, court room. Spread through media? Maybe a few will think twice before making that same mistake i've made, and they may keep their cars on the road at a reasonable price.
The fact is we should as Canadians trust our most known garage. We should trust that our vehicle is in good hands at Can Tire. Bottom line. And until I get a full refund and apology then I can't.
@DeliciousMike Yes, I suppose Can. Tire has a reputation for shoddy work, but this appears to be universal. With more sensors monitoring timing conditions, and other critical engine settings, it would be harder for mechanics to pull fast ones. A pre-start computer scan should determine camshaft position, and other parameters, such as oil level, coolant level, brake fluid temp,/level, etc. GM has OnStar protection for their customers. Lock yourself in, it will be ulocked by satellite.
@DeliciousMike Only an improvement in computers will prevent scams. Sort of like those little black bars glued to some packages. Hopefully the parties involved pay for the damages. Good luck.
CT charged me 1200$ to change parts and run a battery of tests on my car.
After a week, they offered me to change the computer for 1000$, just to try if it worked.
I went to CT, got in my car, read the error codes, and found that one sensor was bad. I had a spare in the trunk, and it took 5mins and a screwdriver to change it.
The spare was the OEM sensor which I changed for precaution with one bought at CT.
The book value of that thing is $1300 - and its 17 yrs old!!!!!!!!.....i think you should put your car to sleep because its entered the phase in its life where lots of bad things, costly things, are gonna happen to it. If you cant afford labour costs, honestly, its time to take the bus. Cars are not for EVERY budget. Get a bus pass or something or bike or even walk, dude. You cant blame everybody but the car for your problems.
@civicnation4two Sorry buddy, but she has been repaired by someone who knows what he's doing. Rust coated for those 17 years and every piece and part in proper shape.
It's a Subaru thing. This was a simple timing belt change and that is all. it was put on wrong resulting in the engine acting as though it was blown. however, It was not, and is working perfectly now. Not a speck of rust and has been maintained by subaru since the first owners bought it.
....you know, dude, i NEVER take the car to any place else but the dealership
for service and i know they over charge me each time, but its their brand and its
in their best interest to keep my car in top form....bragging rights and all on longevity etc. You should not have gone anywhere but Subaru....Canadian Tire and private garages youve never been to before is like leaving your child to be baby sat by a priest.
From experience....i had a problem outside of town with my older car and for the first time I took it into some private garage for emergency repair. 3 months later it starts acting up and i took it to back to my dealership for follow up and they told me that somebody stole my computer-chip thingy (forget the name),...the theft of that unit amounted to over $1k in loss. I dont trust garages at all.
I dig civics man. Don't get me wrong. But I can see why you feel that way. They are a dime a dozen. (at that age)
A 17 year old Loyale it top notch condition is something that you cherish. i have a long history with this model and refuse to let her go with another 100-200kl left on her of happy subie life.
@civicnation4two Also I should mention that my job was film industry catering.
Location anywhere in Nova Scotia. The Bus is not an option when you need to be 3-6 hours out of town at 3am. It is a hard industry to get into and I lost out on it all after two years of it. It payed very well, and I could afford the work. The point is I payed for work that was not completed. Was not able to show up for work for a few weeks, and lost all possible jobs after that. A new car was not an option.
nice car !
what mpg you get?
your missing a spare tire!
crammage 1 year ago
@crammage Thanks!
Right now, i'd be lucky to get 23mpg, i think but wont know for sure until she's a regular driver again.
The spare is at home. Just out of the way as to work on her.
thanks for watching! I have a few more updated vids of my subie if interested.

@seapeddler upgrade to a gear drive? I don't get it.
I couldn't drive it home. I towed it at my expense.
This is not a court of law. This is public media.

We are getting back the price of the timing belt. Which is next to nothing as compared to the labor costs etc.
The belt was the only thing that wasn't faulty! It's silly. They can't admit that they made a mistake. So the world must know.
