  • Beautiful. Truly!

  • Cool arrangement. Now try singing the first part of the theme to Winnie the Pooh along with this...lol.

  • They don't do the dialect correctly - what is Robert Burns without the dialect?

  • Devine music as well as the poetry

  • What a respectful compliment to have one's poem set to music; words that were formed and boiled through the oceans of creation of love's time, pain, and beauty; a most beautiful rendition of a most awesome tribute, simply beautiful.

  • God bless Ireland, Scotland , U.K & the U.S !!!

    Love from Israel !!!

  • We're singing this in my choir, but it's an SSA arrangement.

  • Happy Birthday to Robert Burns.

This version remains to be my favourite among all the others.

  • The arranger is Bill Douglas and it was featured on Music from the Hearts of Space NPR. The piece was recorded at the Colorado Sound Studios and the choral group is the Ars Nova Singers of Boulder CO Thomas E. Morgan director.

  • This.is.the.Ars.Nova.SIngers

  • Bill Douglas is the arranger, Ars Nova Singers of Boulder Colorado is the performer. It was recorded in studio around 2001 and published the year afterward on NPR and Hearts of Space show. For those who don't know yet.

  • I almost forgot the beauty of this oldie until I found this setting on Celtic Twilight 5. I am looking for a 4 part arrangement, SATB would work, that I can adapt for a String Quartet to be used at a 50th Wedding Aniversary.

I suggest an Internet Search for the interesting history of this music. Evidently Bobbie BURNS saved it from obscurity when in his last years he worked on saving old Scot music & poetry.

    Thanks, Bill Douglas!!

  • @Koenigholtz Are you looking for a recording or a score?

  • @Divinemetal An SATB Score that easily adapts to String Quartet. I did find such On Line and received the music notation I need. Thanks for asking.

  • @Koenigholtz No problem. Where, might I ask? Do you know of a performance of it?

  • @Divinemetal I know of none other than what we will do at the wedding anniversary. You will have come to the Houston, TX, area for that one. I note that YouTube has many different videos. I would guess that college choirs often perform it. And, it is a favorite among Celtic Solo Vocalist. Do a search for Robert BURNS and note how he is connected with the words. Robert BURNS is one of the greatest literary giants of Scotland.

  • @Koenigholtz A bit far for me, my friend. I actually just meant a recording, because term papers will rule my life for quite some time before abnegating the throne for their heirs, the exams, but thanks for the invitation. Also, where did you find the score? I want to have a look at it, and I might have some of my friends record a string quartet version with me. Thanks.

  • @Divinemetal I got my Choral SATB arrangement by Douglas, same as the choral video on You Tube, from an immediate download at the Internet Site, Musicnotes. Use their search window when you find the site.

I use Finale Music Notation software to adapt it for String Quartet use.

  • @Koenigholtz Excellent. Thanks. I also forgot to mention that I am already *quite* familiar with Robert Burns. His status is well deserved (if not a higher one).

  • Heavenly. Thanks for posting.

  • There's a post-metal version of this song,featured by Pelican...You should take a look,its amazing as well

  • I presented the poem in class and got a 100%! the words are a bit different tho.

  • can you believe this song was writen in the 1700s?

  • Thanks for this beautiful, sad, but somehow peaceful song. First time I heard it, and surely won't be the last.

    Quite touching.

  • wow nice song

  • this is one of the better choir versions.... the tune is more accurate!.. love it

  • yeah sax, i agree. the only problem i have with this version is the piano playing. it's a bit corny and drops in at the wrong moments and altogether too much. but nonetheless, i haven't heart a better choir version. do you know where i could find one?

  • no not really... this is my fav choir version! the only other version i like is the Kenneth McKeller version which is sung by him.... :)

  • I don't agree with you on the piano.....to me it enhances the vocal. But thats what personal tastes and preferences are all about. :) I absolutely love the musical interlude, especially the oboe solo. The song is available for MP3 download at Amazon, BTW.

  • I love this version. It is truly beautiful.

Some of Robert Burn's poems are

sad, I believe this is his finest

    work.

  • Wonderful musical arrangement - very good choir. Love it.

  • beautiful

  • Soon this song will be a hit in Holland. The Best Irish Singers, famous from Dublin, to Draghouda and Holland will present this arrangment.. Curious?

  • This song isn't Irish its Scottish. Very big difference.

  • Yes, of course I know, Scotland is on the right side of the road, Eire is straight ahead. Next year, we probally have our tour in Scotland. Afterwards we will also be known as the Best Scotish Drinkers who also sings Irish songs.

  • The parents of the poet who wrote this song where born in Holland. Mister Walter and Miss Gerdy Burns.

  • Erm...no. Burns' parents were Ayrshire, and his mother was called Agnes Broun, his dad was called William.

Burns was a typical Ayrshire lad.

  • Beautiful arrangement <3

  • 4 all lang sighn x we r without ur self

  • This is indeed beautiful. However my personal favorite is the one by Andy Stewart. We all have our preferances. My opinion takes away nothing from this version.

  • Finally found this version! its the best so far!

  • the swingle singers? Sounds like something I would have heard about 35 years ago on Beeb one on a Sunday evening.

  • I wish they wouldn't Anglisize the words though, Burns wrote "Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear and rocks melt wi' the sun". It sounds best in his dialect!

  • counds very like enya/clannad too me!!

  • This is probably one of the best arrangements I have ever heard.

May I ask who the composer of this specific song is?

  • I am sorry I do not know who did this arrangement. I found it a few years ago on some little website with no info. I think it is much better arranged and performed than more popular versions. It is just an oldie but goodie!

  • @064658818

The music for this choir version of the old Robert Burns Scottish favourite "My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose" was composed by Bill Douglas. It is from his CD "Songs of Earth and Sky".

  • Very nice, but I don't recognize the melody as I know it.

  • oooohhh s la mierda mas grande q e visto en mi vidaaaaaaaaaa

  • beautiful, I must mark this as a favorite. Nothing is more soothing.

  • WOW. i love this song, especially the clarinet and oboe solos...

*grabs clarinet and starts playing along*

  • OH WOW . . .

My choir is doing a different arrangement and I'm hard put to say which I like better but the basses here ROCK!! (I <3 Basses!) It can be so hard to hear them but these come out to the right degree.

  • very nice
