@MsAnthony54321 No, I mean VTEC is ideally supposed to be a smooth changeover. It's not supposed to "kick."  What VTEC does is just changes the lift and duration of the valves, which means that it would do it fluidly and just change opening and closing of valves...if you're VTEC kicks, that means you've got it in the wrong engagement point or you have some other problem.

Ok, ok... Jokes off! Mate, there are different types of VTEC systems! My VTEC Prelude had a kick, my VTEC S2000 had a kick and at the same time my mums VTEC Accord does not! Why? Because it's a new Accord- a comfy city cruiser with a lot's of torque at bottom revs, it's not a "track car" (fun car) like S2000! Take a test drive

I don't see how a kick occurring is normal, unless the lift and duration is radically different between the two sets of lobes. I'll have to look at the camshafts sometime. I can see it having a kick with a new camshaft that's designed that way...

These are the engines that have a proper VTEC kick in. As you see all these cars are performance orientated! Basically all honda engines with nearly and more than 100hp per litre have a VTEC kick. Most common basic engines have economy and torque orientated VTEC = no KICK

@3colt3 Well, the 280zx is the classic. Check it out. Go to redrooster280zxt and look at the 280zx videos. Its a 82, tokico springs, new turbo( something got in the old turbo and tore up the turbine thus causing it to burn some oil) i say around 200 hp with 14 psi. Stock turbo rims which i plan on keeping. A chevelle is an awesome car !!! I work at Turbonetics and there was a 500 rwhp TT Chevelle. Beautiful car.

@blazinloud I had the same thought too but the car is a 1.6l 4cyl, and even if he did punch it, the car still accelerated quite quickly; a little too fast to not have vtec. And honestly vtec aint too bad. Honda made the car to be affordable and economical, however they they introduced vtec just in case the small engines needed a little extra power for whatever reason. Kids these days, however, take the vtec heads and put them on larger displacment blocks, which is honestly pretty cool.

@capecodpirate7 why model is the civic? because not all have vtec and it kicks in after a certain rpm and vtec is a 3rd lobe on the cam shaft that keeps the intake and exhaust valves open longer when it hits its basically like having a bigger cam. single cam vtec hits at around 3800 and dohc around 4500rpm

@moto4runner first off its vtec toyota has it in their supras as vvti skylines run spec-v ford runs zetec all variable valve timing every motor has a power band like a v8 for instance making better numbers and usually tapping out around 6k rpm but not all of them and the great thing about power after 5k is anything under is economy some get up and go and 30mpg which with gas prices this high whats wrong with that...

@H0wT0g00gle yeah but there is a difference between variable valve timing in toyotas compared to vtec. vtec is kind of like an on off switch for for the vvt, vtech is a mechanically operated vvt system while toyotas use a hydraulically operated system to alter the intake cams phasing. The main difference from VTEC is that toyotas VVT maintains the same cam profile and alters only when the valves open and close in relation to engine speed. so you get power all around. get ur facts straight retard
