I was one of the extras in the dancing scene(shot at Buckskin Joe's, an old western movie set/tourist trap), and had a great time! Trey and Matt were great, gracious and very nice, and both worked their asses off(along w/ the crew). MTV showed up and filmed a 'doc' on the making of "C:tM"(I still have the VHS tape). All around, a great experience, and I'm (pleasently)stunned how popular the film has become(saw the play in Melbourne,Florida a couple of years ago!). A fan since the begining.

Although Trey usually directs most of their projects, I think it's unfair to say that all their stuff is "pure Trey". Matt works very hard on the production side of things, as well as co-writes and stars in just about everything they do, so I think that you've grossly underestimated the amount of work that Matt puts into his work.

Part of the humour comes from the type of song (really happy) teamed with the situation (the hanging). Maybe you need to be a bigger musical fan to appreciate it? Parodies of musicals as a genre is quite often used on south park esp. in the movie so it's a theme through out their work.
