I am glad this boy is okay. The fact is the boy was running away with or without him mom. His mom simply went with. People are afraid of health care reform because they do not want the government to come between them and their medical decisions... yet they can support it when it comes to cases like this..

I have Hodgekin lymphoma. And I had to radiation first, and I will know later this month if I have to do chemotherapy so I know how he feels. And I just glad he is alright.

He's not stupid and they aren't misguided parents. Chemo is very hard to deal with and I'm sure his parents were trying to make him as comfortable as they could. No parents want to see their child going through something so painful.

No, he is not stupid, i agree, it must be very painful, and am sure he does not like it at all. i feel sorry for him. many kids who run away, i view as stupid, as their reasons are often miniscule, or insignificant, or in many cases, both. but that, that is something extremely difficult to cope with, as chemotherapy is like trying to do surgery with a nuke.

There's nothing wrong with his parents exploring other options to try to make their child hurt less. You obviously don't have kids or you're just a crappy parent that would let your kids sit in pain without trying to help them. If you don't have kids I hope you never do.

Its not fair he and his parents have to go through this but doing chemo when your on the brink like this is the only way he can have another chance at life.

This case really tears me up. I can see both sides of the issue. BTW, there are other treatments that the parents could refuse like RITALIN for their child. Did you know that schools have called CPS over that and children have been taken from the home? Does that not scare anyone? At what point can the gov. interfere w/ autonomy??

He had a very high percentage chance of dying without chemotherapy. By not allowing this treatment, the parents put their child's life in danger, thus, they no longer have the right to do what they want.

This child, as a child, cannot decide that. Just like a child cannot enter into contracts.

The reason being, the child could be influenced by less then saviory people in the wings. This time taking the form of irresponsible parents.
