It's 3D imaging done in a vacuum space ot the best of my knowledge. Similar imaging has been done before outside a vacuum but the images were not as sharp and they stayed around a little longer (possibly due to the oxygen content in the space allowing for the plasma burst to burn longer). They need to figure out how to do this in real space and not vacuums.

This is not fake, not bullshit, however, it is not 3D either.

It's 4 pieces of cheese cloth hung betweens the rigging parts. Underneath the rig, 4 projectors project their own image of the animation - captured at 90 degrees intervals - on each of the 4 pieces of cloth, making it seem like the object can be seen from all sides.

Fast animations make it hard to spot, but if you display a static picture and look at the same side of the cube, you will easily spot the lacking 3D feel.

This isn't fake but its also not the kind of hologram some people are thinking, the trick here is the glass, It's barely noticeable but there are glass panes on each side of the Pyramid that the image is projected onto and manipulated to give it that 3d look. Unfortunately the closest we can come to the holographs you see in movies like star wars right now is a smoke projection display which is nowhere near perfect.

Good proof of concept but not even close to practical for home use. I'd bet this will look NOTHING like the final consumer grade product. I'm starting to think we'll reach a neural interface before really good 3D. Just send the signal to your brain and you will think you are seeing it.

Until they show a stationary image, circle around it and prove it's really 3-d - I sincerely doubt this is actually "3d" - in fact - the method they use to produce it seems to preclude these images actually being three dimensionally rendered.

Holographic games have already been tried the game was called "time traveler" and cost a dollar-fivety at the arcade, this is a easy to produce you just need a concave mirror and a crt to pull it off. The trick was used in "ripley's believe it or not centers" and dark rides for a long time, The crazy thing is though some one is trying to rehas old school tech as new. Considering sega failed to revoloutionize the arcade with this tech I doubt its comming to your home soon.
