I have the original BassPod 'kidney' which has only one Synth Bass effect. Lucky me! Only one crap effect! The sound drops off making it hard to play a melody on it as you don't know which notes it's going to cut out on.
Only good thing about it is it brought me here to this highly entertaining vid :)
The reason the synths sound bad is because, as you stated yourself, you aren't using them correctly. It's like this on most pedal reviews which makes it hard or people like me who want to find a good synth pedal.
As someone that makes live drum n bass/dubstep/triphop I could find loads of uses for those sounds. I'm still none the wiser as to which one I should buy though.
@Andragon90 - Have you managed to get anything out of them? Haven't really had time TBH and not really that motivated to do anything with them but do you have any examples / settings you'd be willing to share? I found the tail end of the decay distorts or goes a bit odd, not really what I was looking for. I have found that even FX setups people have posted on the L6 web site have the same problems. Maybe it's just me....
@0021fj I borrowed it from a friend a few times. It really depends on context and the type of music you play. I mean you can't fit these sounds in straightforward rock n' roll or blues. At around, 3:15 A killswitch effect with some delay and compression can make for some cool sounds. It's just not for everyone :) Cheers.
Nice one for the vids very helpful. The synth effects do sound pretty shit as you say, so you reckon the korg is the better of the two?? A drummer friend and I are starting a project along the lines of Jojo Mayer and Nerve, if you are familiar with their stuff, if not could you do me a big favour and have a listen to their stuff and reccomend me a pedal for that sort of electronic kind of sound?
It has a USB socket on the back plus modelled out and dry/DI out. Sadly no XLR balanced out or ground lift for that matter. Shame really so you may still need a DI box.
Preset synth sounds are notoriously bad, but I've got some very usable noises out of a GT6-B after a considerable amount of twiddling.
Using the the wah pedal to control the cutoff frequency (for example) can open up a whole new world for an otherwise static sound.
Adding more conventional effects like chorus, distortion etc can also make a world of difference if you get them at the right point in the effects chain.
Treat it as a brand new instrument, rather than a "push and run" effect! :)
You're supposed to use them with short staccato type notes but most people I've spoken to don't play like that very much. A LOT of people seem to share the same opinions as me too. Doing a lot of work trying hard to understand them and really WANT to like them but just don't very much. I'm not the world's greatest player so someone with more experience may be able to get more out of it.
keep up the good work....I'm watching these with interest. The only use I have found for the synth sounds is to plug a cheap keyboard in, not a bass guitar. Improves the sound of a £10 keyboard but that's about it !!!
"what can you do with that?"
as long as you're creative, a shitload of weird awesome sounds that would work incredible in the right context...

You can do a lot with these so-called "shitty" effects. In the right hands, that is.
