They are jamo-o-matics. Heed experience of others, or buy one and find out yourself. I have had nothing but problems with Romanian AK's. Most AK's will give you problems, especially when you try to find a lot of magazines that will work in yours.
@LRRPFco52 I think you are wrong. I have 4 Romania ak's all shooting the cheapest online ammo with about 3000 rounds through each one with different mags and I have never had one jamb or malfunction. Even from a bad round! Most people don't know what they are talking about and spout off because of what someone else said. Romanians are fine for half the money. Only "call of dudy" 10 year olds think that.
@GunsmithUSA Not too many people have anything good to say about those cheap Romanian jobs....you get what you pay for is a good philosophy. Those ak's are notorious for being jam machines. When you ask anyone what a high quality AK is...the Romanian AK's are never mentioned, but they are always mentioned as an AK that you dont want if you want a good one.
watch before you buy??? why you didn't really talk about anything helpful! which brands are good? which ones to stay away from? which type of ammo is corrosive? how to tell if one is bad? these would be helpful to know before buying....
@MrBkBlitzkrieg I know where to get it, buddy. Its just paying over 5 bucks to fill a 30 round mag that i have issue with. I guess we all gotta pay too much for ammo, though.
5.56 is pretty much the same (i think its like those tulsa 20 round ammo packs). Its alot of money for a semi auto rifle with a large mag.
2. The sight adjustment tool is for windage, not elevation.
3. It is called Wasser, not Warsaw.
4. You can NOT cheaply convert it into a pistol. Essentially, under federal law, if it was imported as a rifle, it always will be a rifle. If you shorten the barrel, even with the buttstock removed, you could get in BIG trouble with the ATF for making a "short barreled rifle". That was their excuse for the assault on Randy Weaver.
I absolutely recommend the AK47 over the AR15 platform for new preppers and novice shooters. For an equitable sum of money you can purchase 2- AK47's AND 1000 rounds of FMJ ammo.
Quick Question: We're always pushing for the RUSSIAN made ak's, which run hundreds of dollars! Why dont we push saiga 7.62x39's? They're the original russian ones (and the cheapest).
@TheyxSeexMexTrollin The original configuration saiga rifles can't use standard magazines. If you convert them to use standard mags, you get into 922r compliance issues. Plus, it's a little different than true AK-47's because they are built on AK-74 production lines with minor changes to accept 7.62x39mm as far as I've been able to tell. Could be wrong though.
Hunterbieir wins and that miex or wtf ever is a total gaming dumbass. Urban enviroment my ass. If your a good shot and have reflexes faster than a dead snail you can hit a target without full auto.
I just bought one 2 days ago. But the big thing is making sure you can find magazines that go along for the AK 47 and make sure you are able to find the 7.62x39 rounds
hold up.. mill it out with a drimmel to make it tight?? how does that work... the guns already been milled out to fit double stack mags instead of single because of the awb ban..
@MACEX1000 the reason people get ak47 instead of a sks is mag cap sks arent reliable with high cap mags you can argue that but i have seen many jam and and since there a argument there means theres some truth. and the ak is just cooler. the accuracy isnt much better on a sks alittle not much
@HunterBeier ya its so useless that armies all over the world use it......i mean can u belive that an automatic weapon your not going to kill anyone with an automatic weapon its so useless right
@MACEX1000 Correct. Full auto is only useful for a machine gun, if a machinegunner is unable to fire or lay down fire, only then is it even considerable to use full auto. Full auto is only for suppressive fire. It only takes one bullet to kill someone. Your muzzle rises and you expend more ammo when using full auto, causing you to get off target and use up ammo that you may need later.
@HunterBeier Where did you get THAT number from??? Maybe 2000-3000 JOULES(give or take!), I think the best number I've seen for the 7.62x39mm is the M67 at 2500 F.P.S., maybe some of the Cor-Bon, Hornady, or a handload COULD get that 7.62x39mm cartridge going 2600-2700 area. Ammo companies NEED to use some excellent/mildly quick rifle powder (for the short 16"bbl) and throw a 115-grn BTHP on top.THAT would change how the platform and the cartridge are seen, probably go from 2"-3" MOA to 1"-2"!
I am seriously considering one of these from my local gun store. Got a mosin Nagant 91/30 and with it a lot of respect for the Russians and their ugy yet extremely reliable fireamr designs.
@finessewes9119 You can't go wrong. The Russian military is all about reliability when it comes to equipment and they don't care what it looks like. Also the AK is more accurate than given credit for. Especially if you get a quality AK, like a Saiga, Arsenal(converted Saiga), Yugo, or Vepr. Another plus is ammo is cheap and if you weren't able to keep it clean it would still function.

@mrnickbig1 1. everyone knows
2. it's also for elevation by threading in or out the front post.
3. dialect can alter pronunciation
4. to change it to a pistol in most states only takes an approval permit and a completed inspection to then register as a pistol.

That's not an ak47, it's an AKM based rifle
iRawrJan 2 months ago
@iRawrJan I believe you're refering to the kalashnakov action. Its an AK. Obviously not automatic, but the concept is the same.
Using that logic, there are no "AK"s in the US (or very few). We say AK, we mean the semi-auto civilian version. Same calibre, same action.

@Redbirds1100 You can find mags and ammo for it everywhere. Lots of people use 7.62 x 39 for hunting and target/fun.

@Redbirds1100 both 7.62's and mags for aks are cheap and easy to find, so i dont see that being an issue at all.
