From the research I've done, it seems to me that the setting is all wrong. It's meant for meditating. Now, can abusing weed cause problems? Of course it can, just like abusing anything else in life, whether that's hard drugs, fast food, or video games.
But the fact is that marijuana is overall significantly less harmful than alcohol, cigarettes, and most other mind altering substances... and it shouldn't be illegal anymore. This is the 2010's, not the 1950's, people need to start looking past outdated "reefer madness" bullshit.
And the effects of weed on your memory, judgement, motor skills, etc. is very different from the effects of alcohol on those same things. Weed doesn’t “destroy” your sense of judgement like alcohol, where you’re likely to hop into bed with a strange or drive a car, or go vandalizing the neighborhood or something.
Weed just makes people relaxed and calm, not stupid and reckless. And the effects do not linger for six weeks afterwards, that’s an outdated urban legend and is completely untrue.
As far as addiction goes, weed is only "addictive" in the same sense as the internet, or video games - it's just something people enjoy and like to do a lot, and generally not something they're truly addicted to, like heroin or meth.
If they let it dominate their life and never develop other hobbies it can be a problem of course, but there plenty of people who use it casually and don’t have problems with it.

It can also be consumed a number of other ways too (vaporizing, eating, etc), in which case all the harmful effects of the smoke are gone. THC (and other cannabinoids) by themselves are not harmful to you at all, and in fact have numerous medical uses.

From the research I've done, it seems to me that the setting is all wrong. It's meant for meditating. Hell, I'm 'Emo' and took several hauls of 20x and I lay back with soft music playing and I didn't freak out at all. It's meant to be used for vision quests and meditation. There's no way he could have a positive experience in that type of setting. Sally D was kind to me. That being said, I DO NOT think kids/tweens/teens should be consuming it. Regulate it, don't make it illegal.

And the effects of weed on your memory, judgement, motor skills, etc. is very different from the effects of alcohol on those same things. Weed doesn’t “destroy” your sense of judgement like alcohol, where you’re likely to hop into bed with a strange or drive a car, or go vandalizing the neighborhood or something.
Weed just makes people relaxed and calm, not stupid and reckless. And the effects do not linger for six weeks afterwards, that’s an outdated urban legend and is completely untrue.

As far as addiction goes, weed is only "addictive" in the same sense as the internet, or video games - it's just something people enjoy and like to do a lot, and generally not something they're truly addicted to, like heroin or meth.
If they let it dominate their life and never develop other hobbies it can be a problem of course, but there plenty of people who use it casually and don’t have problems with it.
Use does NOT automatically equal abuse/addiction, more people need to realise that.

@DaanceTech - smoking anything is going to be hard on your lungs, yes, but the fact is that pot is simply not linked with any of the serious negative effects of smoking cigarettes (ie. lung cancer, and so on).
It can also be consumed a number of other ways too (vaporizing, eating, etc), in which case all the harmful effects of the smoke are gone. THC (and other cannabinoids) by themselves are not harmful to you at all, and in fact have numerous medical uses.

@DaanceTech Here's something to think about... My friends we're planning on getting baked and going to cause "shenanigans" to a nearby fraternity. What happened after they blazed? They were more content watching South Park and eating chips. Had they thought "let's get drunk and go cause shenanigans", then they surely would have done something worse. So you tell me what this stupid shit is that kids do when they smoke weed.
Weed, like salvia and alcohol, can be used safely when in moderation.

@nickermell Weed, like alcohol, destroys your sense of judgement, perception, coordination and motor skills. So, when their bad judgement causes them to get into a car, or get into some strangers bed. They might wake up in the hospital cause they might of got raped, probably giving them some type of STI, or cause they got into some accident. Would you say no to alcohol when your high? Kids are vulnerable, and when high, more so. So, the list goes on.

@DaanceTech The effects of cannabis and alcohol are nothing alike. Cannabis does not seriously affect your judgment in the way that alcohol does. Alcohol suppresses function of the prefrontal cortex which controls judgement. Cannabis actually stimulates the function of the prefrontal cortex, making users MORE cautious and less likely to engage in risky behaviour. That is why stoned people become paranoid, because their mind is exaggerating the possible consequences of their actions.

@DaanceTech Ok If you have never smoked pot please don't spread lies about it. I smoke sometimes and much prefer the herb to drinking. I turned 21 and at that point the doctor was telling me that if I drank alcohol again my liver would shut down completely I was 21!!! I can honestly say that alcohol was the gateway drug for me. Pot doesnt create fuck ups people do it to themselves they have choices. Some homeless have disabilities mental or physical doesnt mean they did drugs. please research!

@wbrycem if you are suggesting this shouldnt be taken seriously, your completely wrong. Its purely educational, I dont know what your method of teaching is, but you dont need to experience anything to know if its wrong. I have never smoked nor have I tried any drugs in my whole life. I just got married, have a baby on the way and I believe I have enough experience just by seeing what drugs do to people.
Ryder isnt the first person to do something like this. Hens all the addiction shows.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. People can't tell everyone something is wrong that they have no personal experience in. You can have personal opinions, but they are just that, opinions, doesn't mean they are right or wrong, and it sure doesn't mean you can choose for other people.

@novalord2 Actually ONE kid committed suicide, and they say it's because salvia made him depressed. Now people like to connect things like that to stuff that doesn't belong (violence and video games anyone?) so the parents don't have to admit they screwed up, but frankly, even if salvia DID cause him to kill himself, that's ONE person in how many years that salvia has killed.

If any of these things pose a danger to children or society I would hope they would be banned. As for it being used by an ancient society, what does that prove? Parents wanna help their kids? well they wouldnt do salvia if they havent done anything before. okay well 7 minutes into the video, i still can't help but notice that MAYBE this guy is faking/exaggerating it. when i first got high it took more then 1 puff, i never smoked salvia to know how quick it can really hit. but from my first experience smoking tree all i can think about was lying down bc of how high I was, this guy is still in his chair in front of a mic knowingly that every word he saying will be recorded, i'd say this little presentation was all for a 5 min exposure. idk...

Pot is readily available to kids for only about $10/gram, while salvia is only available in a few stores that cater to adults for a whopping $45/gram.The fact that you were virtually incapacitated for a grand total of five minutes also adds merit to the fact that it's quite an inaccessible and uneconomical drug. That, and the fact that most people who try it don't enjoy it.

Okay wired, I understand children shouldn't be using salvia and there may be some risks associated with its use. But the same can be said about many things, notably alcohol. As well, the difference with salvia and alcohol is it's impossible to get into a vehicle and drive, as in: good luck remembering how to stick the key into the door, if you even get that far.

2/2 It's already illegal to sell to minors in canada, just like alcohol, cigarettes, and guns, and it's safer than all three.
Should they think about making a law that you can't use it in public, or before/while driving? For sure, but there's no reason to make it illegal. Tests have shown it's not addictive, and not bad for your body, (unlike the three afore mentioned drugs) and the only real dangers come from using it irresponsibly, like the afore mentioned, yet they're still legal.

I'm very disappointed with this video.. just like any other shitty youtube video of a kid smoking salvia.
There is no good evidence to draw from listening to a guy trip on salvia in the first place. Ryder has obviously not done any research on salvia or he would know that it was more intense then 4 beers.
He then rants about how children shouldn't have access to it just because he was being an irresponsible person, and continues to insult other people due to his own insecurities.

the reason he had such a terrible experience is the mindset he had when he took an extremely powerful hallucinogenic drug it's clear there's tension and a bad set and setting overall. Salvia can be some wicked stuff but so can alcohol, I also know plenty of people who have had a great time and suffered no detriment from salvia. It should be 18+ only but outright illegality is never the solution,
