my brother built a retaining wall for his son, i told him the soil that was 90 percent rock did not need it. 10 years latter the retaining wall still stands with no back fill

and the mostly stone soil hasnt moved at all. moral is , if you carve into a mountain

it aint going to move.

@datzfast Same here.... I have 25 y o dry stone walls with no gravel back fill..... I think besides the bases not properly prepared....the pavers were too small or not sloped back into the hill
