There are a lot in intepretations, analysis's and explanations online. Not from Kubrick though, since no self respecting filmmaker would explain their movies (since need for one means they haven't done their job well). This is just a simple "put on" designed to annoy those who respect the film. That’s OK. It was amusing anyway. I commend it for some original thinking (though it lacks good grammar) and a catchy soundtrack. But for anyone to seriously think that humans could physically influence the laws of the cosmos, requires a mind on recreational drugs or the IQ of a turnip. We will not have the same positive ending to our miserable existence as dramatized in 2001.

worst explanation ever. The reason why there isn't any explanations online is because Kubrick would never explain it. That's our job as the viewer to interpret our own way. Now, being a film professor, I have to teach how I interpret the film and all you need to know to find it yourself is the poem "the second coming", a little knowledge of Nietzsche, and a viewing of Kubrick's next film "A Clockwork Orange"

@crosimodo The reason there isn't any explanations of 2001 online, is only that the whole statement is simply as wrong as it can be. There are a lot in intepretations, analysis's and explanations online. Not from Kubrick though, since no self respecting filmmaker would explain their movies (since need for one means they haven't done their job well). Clarke was known to be very outspoken about his views, and a lot of them probably can be found online.

Well, the reason these symbols are so subliminally persuasive is because they have been around for much longer than how they are being used now. I mean, a pyramid is a basic geometric shape. You can put value judgements of a geometric shape. So I encourage you to do a little more research and think a little more critically before you post this junk for every impressionable person to see. It is pretty obvious from the themes and plots of his films (if you can tear yourself away from all the symbolism for a second (which by the way is not totally far fetched, but wholly ill articulated and misinformed and leaping in conclusions) you would find it's more of a commentary on the subject. Alright, two things; one yes the monolith may have been used for a reason sort of how you have tried to describe. But if you actually read Arthur C. Clarke's book you would find that the original structure was a pyramid. I think that would have proven your point a little better. Also, there is also obviously heaping amounts of subversive material in all Kubrick films, and some of course relate to that whole conspiratorial school of thought. (cont.)

I think Kubrick's intentions were to convey something a bit more abstract. There are many ways to interpret this film. Sure, the scum bags took him out, but that doesn't mean he was glorifying their religion in this film.

You're using symbolism and numerology to PROVE(?) that he was a 33rd degree freemason, but you can find many correlations in the same manner. Why would anyone readily accept these superstitions?
