Wagner's title is most literally rendered in English as The Ring of the Nibelung. The Nibelung of the title is the dwarf Alberich, and the ring in question is the one he fashions from the Rhinegold. The title therefore denotes "Alberich's Ring". In German the "-en" ending of "Nibelungen" and the article "des" preceding it denote the possessive (genitive) case. "Nibelungen" is occasionally mistaken as a plural: thus the Ring of the Nibelungs is incorrect.
I love Wagner's music and his operas but at the same time I can't help but recognize how much of an influence his work played on the minds of people like Hitler . I guess it's all a matter of being cautious . I'm German so I know how careful most other Germans are today when it comes to showing any sort of patriotism. WWII ended but the effects have lasted even to this day and as the infamous Hans Frank put it, "a thousand years will pass and Germany's guilt will not be erased."
@ryanscottweise Germany has no guilt! it is lies purpetuated to keep you in chains!
and this is from a Englishman, exsoldier and my father was a soldier, grandfather fought in WWII, I served in Berlin 88/90 the zionist con upon us all is coming to a end, thank GOD for the Internet, check the real facts, and Brother your country need not feel faux guilt any more!!
History and mythology played and active role in his laters years as well as his actions . That he was obssessed with Germany . I think that's why he loved Wagner so much because of Wagner's portrayal of history and mythology . And this also played a huge part in Hitler's ideas for conquest and German superiority as well as the racial feelings of the time which ultimately led to things like the Holocaust as well . I guess that's why Wagner's work are looked on with such criticism .
Wagner's operas and music are unpopular in places like Israel and with the Jews because of Hitler admiration for him as well as Wagner's own anti-semetic views . His operas and music are viewed as nationalistic as well . What many fail to see when it comes to understanding Hitler was he favored himself not just a conqueror but a German hero like Bismarck, Frederick the Great and Barbarossa as well as Hitler's overactive imagination as a child when it came to all things German
Dr. Otto L. Jiriczek, in his book: „Die Deutsche Heldensage” (Sammlung Göschen. G.J. Göschensche Verlag, Berlin u. Leipzig, 1913) on page 111 writes: „Sigurd rides towards the land of the Franks, as he comes to the Field of the Walküren. He is called ‘the southern, the Hun hero".
Sometimes difficult to find this film due to the several names its known by. This, Die Nibelungen, the curse of the ring and the original name I first saw Sword of Xaanten. Either way, its a good tale
I am really interested in exploring the stories from which J.R.R. Tolkein drew inspiration, for the Lord of the Rings and his other works! :-) Thank you very much for sharing this with us, Heatwave! :-)

It's too bad they dubbed his voice. Bet they wish they hadn't now. Is there such a thing of this film without his voice being dubbed? I wonder if they re-released with his own voice I'd bet they'd sell it on DVD in vast numbers. Not smart but then how would they know what he'd become?
I also same the movie 6 years ago in german television. And Rober Pattionson wasn'r known really till 2009, unbelievable, that must habe been one of his first movies. But Richard Wagner Operas rule! The Nibelungen story is a must to know!
my link is finally on watchmovie website so anyone who wishes to get straight to the playlist can go there and click on it or you could always visit my profile and look for it. have fun everyone :)
