  • This man drank like a fish, smoked liked a chimney, was married and divorced 6 times, stabbed his second wife, and won two Pulitzer's.

I have not read any of his works yet, but I am already a "FAN".

  • What a load of pretentious rubbish. Presumably he wants to polish up his outlaw bohemian reputation; he's a bigger poseur than I had ever imagined.

  • ive smoked a shitload of weed and ive never found it to be that strong like your whole sense of reality changes like hes describing, and i know ive had good weed ive whitied many a time

  • The more weed you smoke, the less it changes your percetion of reality. Tell you what, have a month off, then have a cone of chronic and tell me it's not psychadelic.....btw, if you're just a blunt smoker, try punching a bong in one breath, you won't need the month off.....at first.

LSD is more intense and visual, sure, but weed definitely alters sensory perception and gives a feeling of oneness with the universe.

  • @mcnesta80

It can change perception sure and it can open your mind BUT my point still stands, weed is not even close to shrooms lsd etc and calling it psychadelic is a stretch

  • Waste of humanity.

  • he was starting to get so epic and it cutoff. goddamnit

  • I own Mailer on Mailer & never saw this clip...

  • zen saying looking for enlightenment externally (ie smoking lots of dope) is like riding round the world sitting on a cow. while desperatly looking for the cow.

  • @mellikof those zen guys really love their shrooms

  • @mellikof

smoking lots of dope wont make you zen anyway, a hit of dmt or a profound acid trip might however, actually a big hit of dmt WILL make you zen

  • There is no sense in personally attacking me. I'm certainly not flattering myself by saying the things I said. But, since you brought it up, creativity and madness have been around for some time. Samual Coleridge, and Andy Warhol were pretty glazed over by their experiences . Norman Mailer's experiment may be to some albeit and/or transient, but that wasn't my take on what he said. I am not proud of my knowledge on the particulars, it's been over 40 years, but I have it all the same.

  • Mailer's trying to convience some of us that he fit into a culture that turned it's back on him. I am of Mailer's generation, and there was some great stuff back then, but a phycodelic experience? please......Not even reefer laced with Hash would do that for you. He was just stoned. It would have sounded better if he had admitted that he was afraid to drop acid or drink shroom tea. Those two things would make the lights come on....... real bright.

  • @streetwhereulive

I think you've missed the mark and where you see Mailer "trying to convince" some of "us" that he fit in, I see him merely relating his personal albeit transient experiments with the drug. Don't flatter yourself. I doubt that he had any interest in fitting in to a "culture" which was notorious for mistaking madness for creativity.

  • @streetwhereulive

i know, hes basically saying hes a pussy and justifying it by deluding himself into thinking weed makes you have psychadelic experiences

  • @postmasterw00t I couldn't have said it better. That's exactly what he's doing.

  • i could listen to him speak all day!

  • @MrJoshuaGrierson So could he.

  • this documentary hasn't been released yet... how did you get this?

  • well done, Norman... didn't mention whiskey though , lol

  • @xxxemoneyxxx Shakespeare doesn't sound like this at all. There is something called a good explanation, and most people, with an understanding of language, not you, enjoy that.

  • Why does he have an obstacle course rope in his house?

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx - he probably built it when he was stoned.

  • He's right. Marijuana is like a love affair. I had my time with it for sure but it has since grown stale.

  • @xxxemoneyxxx

    very intelligent comment

  • norman must have wished he possessed this low deep voice earlier in his career, might have reinforced his image as a literary pugilist , lol

  • @xxxemoneyxxx did you run into this looking for the "worlds fattest man falls down" video by any chance

  • Norman vs bill O'riley auto parts would be neatoo

  • love his writing, but i dont think i could listen to him all day... if this was in book form i'd devour it quickly though

  • Read some of his stuff. He's the man.

  • Norman Mailer is the awsome. You win a Pulitzer Prize. and then talk some shit

  • Comment removed

  • I made a VCD from VHS, so that might have something to do with it.

  • ....Cheers for your reply. You don't, I suppose, have the rest of this documentary do you?....I believe it's from a show called "Norman Mailer on Norman Mailer"....Have a good one!....
