"The worst catastrophe, which would be the disintegration of the Greenland and Western Antarctic shelves"
Actually, not - because while the ice shelves may break off, it is returned in precipitation at higher altitudes. That's the nice thing about our planet's water cycle.
The ice-pack replenishes itself; what is deposited "upriver" on the glaciers works itself down. We learned that much in grade school. History is on our side - there's no need for panic and there's no evidence that CO2 is the problem. Greenhouses don't work on the CO2 principle and neither does our climate work like a greenhouse.
Good news: the planet isn't warming. NASA and NOAA just eliminated the high altitude station readings. They get the data from places that haven't reported in 20 years from other (warmer) places. Hope that helps...
"A new analysis of global surface temperatures by NASA scientists finds the past year was tied for the second warmest since 1880. In the Southern Hemisphere, 2009 was the warmest year on record."
Based on what, the biased surface stations? Do you know where they get Bolivia's readings? How about the Northwest Territories? Or Siberia? They started out with 6,000 surface stations and are down to 1500, surface stations that have moved, readings are filled in from warmer places for places that don't have readings. You can't trust NASA's skewed records.

@anoniab Don't forget about positive feedback from that disintegration.

@anoniab Well, data shows that not always ice-pack replenishes itself.
