  • both sounds awesome ;)

  • Nice. I have the 606 and the 909 and am looking for an 808 because really, you need all three!! I have the SCI Drumtraks which is all sampled and has it's own thing going on. The 909 has terrific BITE though. The Roland drum machines record very well, they can make a bad or marginal song/mix sound great, hard to describe but I LOVE THEM!

  • Just add a gated low sine wave of about 60Hz to the 606 kick and you got it. Then get the handclapper or something like that, or just a sample.

  • Haha, fan va go du e. fet modd

  • kick on the 606 sucks but for the rest i like the sound of the thin electric hihats and lighweight snare on it much more than on the 808. I'd call the 606 a perfect machine if it only had a clap!

  • Now this is what I call a proper demonstration! Well done!

  • Agreed, really nice!

  • thanks for the comparison vid!!

  • Still the 808 is moore BWOOOOOooommm

  • Can I pay you to mod my tr606?

  • How did you mod the 606? That sounds great!

  • Geoff Waterston 606 mods - google it! :)

  • loved the comparison. Any big difference between the 808 & 909?

    Thanks for posting.

  • The 808 got more sounds and separate outputs for each sound to boot.

On the other hand, the 606 can switch between pattern write and pattern play on the fly, a feature the 808 doesn't have...

  • Ah! Noticed now that you asked about 808 vs 909.

    The 808 is all analogue.

The 909 is all analogue but has 8-bit sampled hihats

The 909 has multiple levels of accent, shuffle and flam. And off course it sounds a little bit different...

  • The Toms on the 909 SUCK, and there is NO Cowbell, maraca, or claves on the 909. But the good thing is that the kick and snare are pitch adjustable on the 909 whereas on the 808 there is only pitch on the Tom/Congas and NOT the kick and snare. Also the modified 808 kick (with longer sustain, decay, and release did NOT come on the original 808, it came a few years after. Most likely on a sample program where you could loop it to achieve pitch and prolong the "boom"

  • thank for the info. i definitely prefer the 808. you know your drum machines. I'm actually amazed at the amount of jams, from the early 80s, that were made on the 909 .

  • COMPACT (JACK) ASS1

  • the 808's has that nice old school feel to it. and the 606's has that club sound. they both sound nice to me. nice video man.

  • They Both sound sweet. Is the 606 the one thats on sale?

  • No, none of the machines are for sale.

  • i like the 606 better but the snare sounds a bit too "fuzzy"

  • Before anyone gets too carried away; just remember that we don't know if the output levels were accurately matched for levels. And I don't mean by 'ear'.

  • um... who really cares, that's what a gain control is for. Turn it up. The 606 sounds great love the mods.

  • Well, my darling little cantaloupe; the title of this video states that it is a comparison. How to compare when we don't know what the 'base' for that comparison is?

Also, can't they both just be kick-ass?

  • Well my sweet little watermelon... I just used my ears, even if the 606 sounds a tad louder it's the timbre that one should attend to... and I agree they're booth kick ass :D

  • little 606 sounds BETTA!

    wow.

i have one under my bed.somewhere ,in a shoebox.

i'll do the kick decay /tune mod.

    and he hat mod.seems easy.

    thanks for this revelation.

  • Hehe that first beat on the 808 sounded like the Carrington Institute song in Perfect Dark. I thought the 606 mod sounded better, more sharp than the 808.

  • what list of mods did you make?

  • what did u mod on it?

  • 808 ser ut som en oskuld brevid ditt piercade monster ;)

  • fan, 6o6an låter ju ballare!! hejja!!
