I can't understand why Humbug got such average press. It was such a vast improvement on their first two records, and those were brilliant albums to start with.

You'll notice that the critics that gave them the "average" reviews are all of the "pop rock" magazines like NME who dont care for "Artistic Rock". Humbug was a work of art and their most accomplished album because they were not afraid to experiment.

Joy Division never recorded anything like the title track. It wasn't original but it was definitely more inspired than Strange House. Humbug however was just completely awesome all over.
