Weird but cool. My brother and I always called those noise-making warning grooves on the sides of highways banshee lines because of the horrible shrieking they make. What a unique thing for the engineers to try out.
There are grooves cut in the road. It's the same type of groove that is found on the shoulder of roads to let you know that you've drifted too far off the road surface- it make a hum sound. Somehow, they engineer these musical roads to make different sounds.
This was a somewhat successful attempt to have the grooves play the "William Tell Overture" (theme to the Lone Ranger)... but they apparently never consulted someone who KNOWS how the tune goes. It's off in its intervals and its rhythm at the end. It's close enough for people with no musical ear to say, "Uh, the Lone Ranger?"
Nice video - I see you like to make videos in your car. Check out thesmartpod channel to see a unique video accessory that attaches anywhere and holds any camera position. It can help you take great videos.
Wow. The geniuses who came up with this really must've been tone-deaf. They say you have to be going 55mph in a Honda Civic to hear it, but you'd think that as it's the road grooves that dictate the note, it'd sound in tune no matter what car you were in. And that was NOT in tune!
That is incorrect. Different models of cars have different lengths of wheel bases (the distance between your front and rear wheels). The "tune" is generated by bot sets of wheels (front and back) going over the grooves, so, the wheel base is quite important.
That's okay then. I was a little worried. Do you know any YouTube videos where the driver was actually in a Honda Civic, to see if it sometimes is in tune? 'Cos all the video footage I've found so far hasn't been.
That's only about a mile from my house.

Hah the cops could sit there and listen to the music and then catch the ones that are playing it too fast, lol

It sounds like it. You have to drive faster to make it really sound like it though.
missourisisterre 1 year ago
the reason it did not sound right is because you need to be going 50 mph constant.

where is the music coming from?

You have to set your cruise control, because if you go the slightest bit faster or slower you go out of tune.
1200killer 2 years ago
Try driving at 70MPH for the correct pitch and do not vary your speed. Stay at 70, dont speed up or slow down when going over the grooves.

The city of Liverpool, England ought to do some Beatle songs this way!
I wonder if you could create some crude speech, like "Slow Down"...
MiKikaIwaShizaru 3 years ago
It's out of tune - probably something to do with the speed or the car - but it's there. I'm surprised this can be done.

lol picture a bunch of guys with 4 1/2 grinders running out in the road and carving out new songs. Seems "Smoke on the water" would be cool.

That road has basic musical talent, but needs to practise a little more - some of its pichting was a little off. Still, a pretty good effort
jimbo1066 3 years ago
i love the idea! i say keep the road how it is :)
