i was doin this yesterday, and i think it was a bit heavy cos i pulled soemthing around my shoulder blade. hurts whenever i look to the right now... i'll be more careful next time.
With this amount of weight it doesn't really matter, but with more weight one should bend his/her elbows during the exercise so he/she doesn't strain the shoulder socket.
This video shows pretty well the lateral raise exercise, but you don't want to lift the dumbbells past your shoulder height; this will cause injury.
