Sonata can beast any kind of style of rock.. go from Broken... to Mary Lou... to The Vice... to Deathaura (full) .... to The Last Amazing Grays (Orchestral).... they can pull it all off.. thats why of all the music i listen to... Sonata Arctica is a band that i must hear everyday.
@evanescence9314 The Curse is really epic! hahaha but i love Endless Inquisition, it's so beautiful. By the way, my favourite part is from 00:00 -> 07:58 :p
Damn, this song is good! When I discovered Sonata 7 months ago, I was listening to their first songs. The first album I bought, though, was their 2006 Greatest hits... I thought the new album was alright, but this song is up there with their older stuff.
This is a good album with some experimetna lstuff, but i still think that Reckoning Night is their best album. it has a great balance between SA old and new sounds!

Tony explained on an interview, that he saw people arround him, that were young when he was a kid, now getting old. The album is made arround the idea of death on a very "Shakespearean" way. And I think that's a dangerous yet beautifull concept.
@Jass2468 What do you mean? You're obviously not a fan of progressive metal. I like the way the tempo and beat change, it gives the song a sense of complexity and makes more of a story out of it. That's just my opinion though.
I like this song and few more tracks from that album, but I don't like this Symphonic/Progressive Metal Sonata Arctica.
I prefer Power Metal Sonata Arctica, if they continue with albums like this one, well, I will not be Sonata Arctica fan anymore, but yes, I will listen to the old stuff.
@WishmasterTheDark Powermetal is overplayed. Too many bands do it. This is great! Sonata Arctica are moving away from a typical power metal sound, and creating their own style.
@WishmasterTheDark Yes, they're now Prog, but, do you think this is good or bad? I think it's great, Power Metal is one of the best music genres (or sub genres), but, they sound great in this way, they have a new style, but at the same time, they still have their style, they are still being Sonata Arctica, but, in another way. @WishmasterTheDark Since Unia (and its disscussable that even berore Unia) they have been writing Progressive Metal. They didnt change, they showed a less know part of Sonata which in my opinion its even better this way
@WishmasterTheDark Ohh lol and if u really think im an ingorant fag youre the one that is closed to music evolution, this actually has ALOT of Power metal influense.
Just because it is mixed with a Synphony it makes you feel like youre listening to old people music or i dont know what, but u acuse me of ignorance HA. (If u wana listen unrithmical drums and random speed solos, stop typing Sonata arctica and click the "non ignorant" link to a Dragonforce video ;) )
@Hagpwns lmao i agree with you. i was just now commenting on a Therion video that the reason i love Sonata over Dragonforce is because Sonata changes their sound a lot and theyre great at EVERY style they choose and put so much power into it... friggin Dragonforce... no one can tell me that their shit starts to sound the same after a while. nearly ALL of their songs have the same drum beat. it gets old.. and boring .. and annoying as fuck. Stick with Sonata Arctica people!!!!
@TheJimiSlayer They aint prog only they have always mixed a bit, but obiously the most famous SA songs are influenced mostly by power but listen to songs like "White pears Black Oceans" , "The boy who wanted to be a real pupet" and" and most obiously in Unia "My dream's but a drop of fuel for a nightmare". Then u can see why many of us Sonata admirers expected this to happen since Reckoning Night.
You can go listen to old Sonata, it's cool... if you don't like "The Days of Grays" or any of its tracks, thats your problem, many of us, LOVE this album, and even more Unia... thats what Sonata is about, listen it once, listen it twice, even thrice, and you'll see how these new albums are far better than many before.

This album and Unia album is by far the best albums of Sonata Arctica, my opinion is that they become better and better everytime they release a new album!
None of the Deathaura posts seem to be working today. Every lyric vid or music video with this song simply won't play. If I skip the first minute or so on this one, it will play the rest of the way, but none of the other videos start. WTH?
I love this song so much. It's just such a bombastic, epic Sonata moment. I think it encapsulates their newer era, with the progressive turns and like 3 little movements in one song.
Sonata's evolving, that's true, but me as a listener - I'm evolving just with them :) Don't flame that they're over or something. Anyone can like whatever he wants and greatness of the band isn't measured by how much people they gathered as their listeners, but how big influence they have to them :)
@XXKatsumeXX I sort of agree with you, but after seeing an interview with Tony Kakko and him saying that, they as a band, are able to express their creativity more now than ever with their new music it changed how I felt about this album. They're just no longer happy with their older style, and being a part of a band you really need to be happy with what you create.. then everything else will fall in to place.
@XXKatsumeXX I would agree with you, but after seeing an interview with Tony Kakko and him saying that, they as a band, are able to express their creativity more now than ever with their new music it changed how I felt about this album. They're just no longer happy with their older style, and being a part of a band you really need to be happy with what you create.. then everything else will fall in to place.
@XXKatsumeXX I would totally agree with you, but after seeing an interview with Tony Kakko and him saying, they as a band, are able to express their creativity more now than ever with their new music it changed how I felt about this album. They're just no longer happy with their older style, and being a part of a band you really need to be happy with what you create.. then everything else will fall in to place.
I totally agree, this is a great song, new sound, a good evolution, Sonata always do something to impress me, this song is the definition of a new sound, WELL DONE, MY BIG RESPECT FOR POWER METAL . OF COURSE SONATA ARTICA
I love this song so much. Every time I listen to it, I can almost see the witch hunt in front of my eyes. And the last four lines... they draw tears from my eyes. Someone was paid to say that their torment had a name, and so the woman was brutally alienated and burned to death. Her lover lived on in agony, until he was also accused of witchcraft and murdered. But only through his death could he reach peace, so that they could finally be together "for all eternity".
@BurbonPL It was kind of out of his control really, he had to serve in the Finnish military or something, but it's required as a citizen or you get thrown in jail.
@THEinternationality Jani put off doing his 3 years of citizen work or 2 years military work as its required to be done by age 30 I think. It was all his own fault
Autumnmaker u can stick that comment up in your ass! Sonata Arctica isn't dead and it will never be! I've had enough of you miserable mother humpers who are crying about the Sonatas change! Get a fucking life! Sonata ain't weak, your weak!
I'm highly respectful about those people who think this is Sonata Arctica at its best.....I just guess I'm a bit of a purist, as in my own personal opinion (being an all-life SA fan) this proves how weak and weary SA has turned...IMOPO SA's death began with Mikko's departure and completed with Janni's...It's utterly sad ='(
This song was SO EPIC live yesterday. We got to be the first audience graced with it live. Hope they do it more though for everyone else seeing the North America tour.
I saw a review on iTunes that stated this wasn't power metal. How far from the truth can you get? This is easily some of the greatest power metal in recent years.
@Icarus19911991 Why do you have to mention Dragonforce? Just talk about this song like everyone else. And it doesn't matter what genre DF is. If you don't like them, keep it to yourself.
Dragonforce is powermetal, but concentrate on more speed. And yes probably doesn't represent the genre that well, but the thing that turns people away from metal is bands which scream and grunt.
Here's the problem, they toned down the progressive elements from Unia, but they replaced it with essentially nothing. It doesn't have nearly as much strength of power metal that Unia had.
And, as far as Deathaura goes, I'll make it very simple.
TRANSITIONS.
When you move between two musical ideas, you put a TRANSITION in. It would be like if your favorite TV show just randomly flipped to another point in time, with different characters, mid conversation. It's just asinine.
@FractureOfReality i agree completely. i love unia and days of grays, but when compared to their old stuff its complete crap. I enjoy the new sound but if i want to hear a new genre ill find a new band. when i buy a sonata album i want the solid power metal im expecting. also post unia sonata is the DEFINITION of in power metal
Yes, they did, actually. They reached back into that Reckoning Night sound and put more emphasis on melody than in Unia. Days has more power metal strength than Unia, while still holding on to that powerful progressive impulse.
As for TRANSITION, as some blanket term that you're using without actually referencing parts of the song, it means nothing. As far as I'm concerned this song flows almost perfectly musically, moving from element to element with great fluidity.
Best song on Days of Grays and one of the best songs Sonata has ever created. Tops pretty much everything on Sonata's first two albums and is a great demonstration of the power of their evolution, though I still think they did their best with Reckoning Night which was a perfect balance between new and old.
I'm just going to go ahead and say how wrong this statement is. If this were released as a band's debut album, it would be essentially worthless. It is stale and awkward, and is basically pushing along on the fame of the previous albums and the popular perception that Sonata Arctica is the "In" band of Power Metal.
Sorry, but post-Unia Sonata is not the "in" band of power metal... not quite sure what "popular perception" you're referring to, then. "Basically pushing along" on past fame would be to release another Silence or Ecliptica. This is completely fresh... in toning down some of Unia's progressive elements Sonata has found a fantastic new sound, and no, it is in no way awkward. Case in point: Deathaura...
@feanaroTK i disagree completely. i love unia and days of grays, but when compared to their old stuff its complete crap. I enjoy the new sound but if i want to hear a new genre ill find a new band. when i buy a sonata album i want the solid power metal im expecting. also post unia sonata is the DEFINITION of in power metal
I went to them show in Brazil, the new guitarrist is in the same level of Jani. I saw his performance in Wolf & Raven, San Sebastian... in front of my eyes =O that was AWESOME!!!!

Overplayed?
Ok I agree, there are like 1000 bands that are labeled as Power Metal, but only 5% of that number are real Power Metal.
The rest of those bands are Melodic Heavy Metal, Symphonic Metal, Neoclassical Metal and Progressive Metal bands.
Some bands labeled as Power Metal are actually Pop music bands.
I can count approximately less than 40 true Power Metal bands.
Sonata left Power Metal, which means one band less from that Heavy Metal sub-genre.
They are Prog Metal now.

Sonata's evolving, that's true, but me as a listener - I'm evolving just with them :) Don't flame that they're over or something. Anyone can like whatever he wants and greatness of the band isn't measured by how much people they gathered as their listeners, but how big influence they have to them :)

sonata's straight down now... unia was the first step, now they're wasted... R.I.P
gimme back immortal songs like fullmoon, white pearl, shamandalie, destruction preventer and last but not least the epic whole silence album!

Gonna see Sonata Arctica Sunday night in Chicago!!! I can;t wait, I love everything they've ever done!

Most people think that Dragonforce is power metal, and are as such turned off when real stuff, like this, shows up
Icarus19911991 1 year ago
@Icarus19911991 Why do you have to mention Dragonforce? Just talk about this song like everyone else. And it doesn't matter what genre DF is. If you don't like them, keep it to yourself.
SpriteBat 1 year ago
@Icarus19911991
Dragonforce is powermetal, but concentrate on more speed. And yes probably doesn't represent the genre that well, but the thing that turns people away from metal is bands which scream and grunt.
Anyway to the real issue, Sonata.
Just keep up the bloody good work. \m/

@feanaroTK
FractureOfReality 1 year ago
@FractureOfReality i agree completely. i love unia and days of grays, but when compared to their old stuff its complete crap. I enjoy the new sound but if i want to hear a new genre ill find a new band. when i buy a sonata album i want the solid power metal im expecting. also post unia sonata is the DEFINITION of in power metal
yumdubaby 1 year ago
@FractureOfReality
As far as I'm concerned this song flows almost perfectly musically, moving from element to element with great fluidity.
feanaroTK 1 year ago
Best song on Days of Grays and one of the best songs Sonata has ever created. Tops pretty much everything on Sonata's first two albums and is a great demonstration of the power of their evolution, though I still think they did their best with Reckoning Night which was a perfect balance between new and old.
feanaroTK 2 years ago 3
I'm just going to go ahead and say how wrong this statement is. If this were released as a band's debut album, it would be essentially worthless. It is stale and awkward, and is basically pushing along on the fame of the previous albums and the popular perception that Sonata Arctica is the "In" band of Power Metal.
FractureOfReality 1 year ago
@FractureOfReality
