  • I hope they get the rest of their dogs back. I believe we of course need laws to protect animals from cruelty and neglect but it's really unfortunate to see how this case is turning out. They tried to help an injured dog and as a result are being put through the system. I truly hope this become an isolated incident and not a typical example of what we'll see in the future.

  • Thing is, there were laws to protect animals BEFORE they amended the statutes. The only good part of the amendments was they added protection of a restraining order to protect your animals too.

The amendments have a PETA / HSUS smell about them.

I am afraid this is the future of animal ownership if they continue to get their way.

even now they are trying to get forced spay and neuter laws to pass in CA.

  • They are going to far the humane society and PETA and stepping into our pesonal lives with no more reason then speculation. The way the new law is written they have not even to prove abuse and can take not only animals but livestock. If you are a farmer that is messing with your livelyhood

I think PETA and the humane society have too much power. From what I see it is only a few people who actually abuse animals and all of us are considered now guilty till proven innocent.

  • This is totally discusting . I am outraged by this. It IS unconstitutional ....I had an incident myself . My dog got out of the yard and was picked up . I was ordered to pay $100.00 within 72 hrs. and I think it was $25.00 per day after that , and 7 or 14 days total (cant remember) to give the money or she would be I guess put to sleep....Its blackmail!! Yeah , something needs to be done about this...If you need me to sign a petition or whatever , count me in!!

  • the quietly passed these statues in 2007 under HB07-1235. When I first heard about it, it had already been passed.

It gives the animal extremists to much power over our pets and animals.

I'd love to start a petition to get these statues repealed. The best thing we can do is to inform everyone you know about this. our representatives have let animal owners down to pat themselves on the back.

  • Your right . We need to just keep informing everyone... I am going to write a letter to my Governor about these issues and some other things I want to say. Just to see what he has to say about it..Probably just get a form letter back Im sure....They dont care about nothing but money....

  • You can do that but understand that He (Ritter) is the one that signed the bill into law.

I will be glad when he is out of office. It makes me wonder how many of our senators and Representatives actually read the bills to be signed and understand them and what they entail.

I think we need to find out who voted for these statues (HB07-1235) and make sure they NEVER get into office again.

  • Your right!!

  • Sounds like a fine little extortion racket. They kidnap your animals and hold them ransom, threatening to kill them if you don't pay up. Disgusting. I hope this works out all right for the Scotts.

  • and the really scary thing is they will get more of the "revised" statues passed in other states. using the same "Pay us to keep your animals" or "we can take your pets with no repercussions if we are wrong".
