  • As legendary and incredible as Shawn Lane is/was, Guthrie's phrasing and tone just takes me on a whole new journey.

Every time I hear Guthrie, my mind is blown, all over again.

  • Guthrie is nothing like Shawn Lane...

  • @shawnlanefatty9393 hes a little like shawn lane, meaning shawn is gone unfortunately but if i wanted to go see a guitarist that was slightly comparable (cause no-one really is) it would be guthrie............

  • @shawnlanefatty9393 yea not really, I meant hes sort of this generations fusion/shred type guy, playing wise they are pretty far apart

  • his phrasing is perfect

  • that is the most beautiful feedback ever......ever......ever.....

  • The sustain.

  • an interview/lesson of mattias eklundh from Freak Kitchen dude that would be amazing he is unique in sound and phrasing a genius almost nobody knows :(

  • sometimes i just forget how good Guthrie actually is. i think, i'm okay, until shit like this comes across. i mean i am okay, but this guy just fucking better than..

yes i ended that sentence like that.

  • now THAT's style, and a shit lot of diferent elements ;)

  • Wow...That is the most beautiful feedback I've ever heard...

  • guthrie imo has surpassed lane. he can play more stylez. he can play every style

  • If guthrie would be reading all of this comments, he would just laugh his butt off

  • @ShredFever92I´m so tired of hearing about shawn lane. You´re right man. Guthrie and Ron´s playing are appealing, not only to guitar freaks, but also to people who appreciate good music. Comparing Guthrie to Shawn is not fair. Guthrie is on a class of his own, just like Bumblefoot, who also sings and makes extremely good music (200 times better than crappy gn´r)

  • @tweenboxyeah Shawn was thee guitarist, and Guthrie, along with basicaly every other rock/fusion/jazz guitarist will tell you the same thing. Shawn did'nt need to slap or play bluegrass. He played some of the most complex fusion stuff out there, yet also toned it down and composed beautiful pieces like Epilogue for Lisa. He also went further than any other western guitarist in Indian music( even further than mclaughlin). I absolutley love Guthrie, and believe he is prob inthe top three talented

  • @tweenboxyeah guitarist of all time, but he is not Shawn Lane.

  • @crazyboyxx ehhh shawn's tapping wasn't up to par with that of Guthrie Govan's or Ron Thal's. ron and guthrie play slap guitar, blue grass, hybrid pickin blues stuff. shawn never showed that he could play that stuff.

  • @theawakener7 ...you're kind of a douche.....

  • @theawakener7 My names theawakener7 and I'm superior to everybody

  • @theawakener7 what are you talking about

  • sounds like guthrie has been listening to derek trucks...awesomeness

  • @theawakener7 ok buddy fuck off with the trolling, if you don't like him, gtfo.

  • @crazyboyxx Scotty Anderson can match that, one of the best guitarists ever to have walk the earth, luckily he is still alive today, check him out i thought noone was greater than Govan... then i saw Scotty

  • The very last seconds remind me of Mattias Eklundh

  • love his tone here...

  • @MrMouthySucksCock

twat twat ting ting, a ding a ling, a ding a ling

  • he just....takes the piss! *throws guitar away*

  • ting ting twaddle dee ting twaddle dee ting :-)

  • omg...the last feedback thing...looked like a pipe

  • @crazyboyxx sooo true

  • You don't need to insult anyone my friend. That's your opinion and I don't agree with you. But I respect it.

    Fanaticism is not good.

    Have a good day.

  • Totoally Amazing.

  • Does anyone know where to find any vids with useful interviews? Like how he sees the neck while he plays and solos?

  • watta guy huh!

  • HOLY FUCKING NIGGER TITS!

  • This Generations Shawn Lane

  • @Kingding6

Shawn Lane was FAAAAAR from having the taste and tone of Guthrie. Can not be compared.

  • you need to watch more shawn Lane then, he was the master, then again thats just my opinion

  • He's got to be the best soloist i've seen on any instrument, he's amazing!

  • Dam straight

  • This generation's Steve Morse.

  • he is awesome best all round guitar player i have seen talented man and great tone

  • Guthier!!!Toca demais!!!!

  • How does he make that tone last so long?????????

  • @acodaniel1, it's called a sustainer. Either it's a special pickup on the guitar or a pedal. Although it could just be natural feedback with the amp.

  • It's not a sustainer pickup. He most certainly is using a compressor though.

Unless Cornfords have a compressor circuit built in.

  • I think that's just the tube's headroom. The gain is pretty high.

  • it is feedback...you can tell

  • Knowing Guthrie, its probably the feedback. XD

  • he very amazing player.i can say anything if he was play guitar because all notes he play make amazing sound.and only jealous or crazy people who say he sucks or anything oke .

  • God hes awesome

  • If you go back to the jazz era you will find the foundation for the majority of improvisational music in American culture. However, horn players have traditionally ruled the day were jazz was concerned. Because of the nature of wind instruments the horn players could play with power, volume and sustain! Instruments like guitars could not compete with horns. So guitarists played nice little quiet solos! Distortion allows the guitarist to finally compete!

  • That part when he uses the feedback along with the hammered notes sounds very Mattias Eklundhish! Very cool!

  • people use distortion to get a heavy tone, they don't use it to sound noisy. don't confuse tone and playing - guthrie plays extremely cleanly, and seeing as you don't know what this means it means you can hear all the notes and it doesn't sound like a mess, meaning his technique is incredibly precise. distortion adds saturation, sustain and whatever else. do you think metal bands who play solos should actually play using the clean channel? clean playing means he's a competent soloist.

  • wow

his technique sucks because his playing is so clean? my god you're an idiot.

  • the guy is just jealous

  • I know i shouldn't feed the troll, but shut the fuck up you inbred mutant.

  • how did he do it?

  • Guthrie showing Steve Vai fans that you don't need a fernandes sustainer.

  • to be fair though that is feedback not sustain

  • Sure, but when you use the sustainer on a dirty tone it always feeds back just like that.

  • anyone know info about the 7 string 27 fret suhr they're making? i.e. when its coming out how much itll cost?

  • hes old! lol i thought that too when i met him but hes just kinda older than you expect

  • Gives me shivers.

    His tone is beautiful.

  • He should turn 0:41 into a full song and release it!

  • i F***ng agree...from 0:41 till the end it´s just AWESOME!

  • i have never seen anyone do anything like that part he plays at the end. cooool

  • me either, simply beautiful.

  • Best

  • love him

    love love love him

  • It sustains for ever! Wow O.O

  • what guitar is that

  • gods

  • Suhr

  • Suhr Guthrie model

  • what i think is the most amazing thing about all these vids is the fact that people are walking PAST in the background! if they genuinely dont have a clue what are they doing at a music show??

  • It's a trade show. People probably have better things to do, like business.

  • What a beautiful guitar...!!!

  • is there/will there be a video of the interview, as there was on the Eric Johnson interview??

  • No, not this one. However, there are a number of new ones coming up which will feature video versions of the interviews in addition to the text!

  • I can not find words to describe my feelings every time I see him playing... Thanks Guthrie!

  • GREAT interview! Thanks a ton

  • Yep can see it now. Look forward to reading it and the others up. Thanks!

  • Still not up dude. Be handy if you post the exact url in the info section of the video too. In case the interview isnt in the interviews section yet. Although dunno why it wouldnt!

  • Definitely up! You can access it through the front page by clicking on the picture of Guthrie in the slideshow or by visiting the interviews section of the site.

You may have to clear your cache - your browser may not be displaying the most recently updated version of the site. Let me know if this works!

  • he is good. one person that is slightly better is johhny hiland speaking techneque and fluency wise

  • That's some crazy idea of playing with the feedback!

  • i didnt see any interview on the site

  • Check now! :)

  • he sure does!

  • Guthrie Govan rules!!
