Rain barrels are MAINLY used for watering gardens, which I really hope U would be growing in the SUMMER, not winter, hmmm. If U wish to collect water for other needs U can design a CISTERN, which is usually under ground (no freezing) and it is MUCH more complex to make too.
Great video! I recommend that if you need a rain barrel, go with Aquabarrel. This summer, we worked with them to coordinate a bulk purchase 100 rain barrels for our town of Mt. Airy, MD.

Seems Like no one addresses the issue of Freezing in the winter...people need water in the winter too.
