  • Awsome interview! I had the pleasure to met these guys in France , where i represent Brazil with partners from Rio.Well the world cup in Paris, made me realize that this event is the only one that put together the higher number of persons with disabilities on power chair in the world,As a physicaltherapist it was and is being an privilege.

  • 1:19 - 1:21

The comment Rick makes here is problematic. By suggesting that the waver is an insurance in the event that he "ends up in a wheelchair", he conflates the living situations of persons with physical disabilities as having resulted from incidental trauma. Also, those words have the added effect of portraying the experience of physically disabled persons as less than those who are able-bodied. While I imagine this was unintended, I think it will be best if Rick chooses words more wisely.

  • @bunnydragon88 Rick knew fair well that all of the athletes on the team have neuro muscular disorders that are degenerative and will worsen. IF you knew anything about the sport you would know that none of our athletes are in wheelchairs caused by "incidental trauma" at the world level.

  • @lukegalvani My comment states that he makes a conflation of the case of having a neuro-muscular disorder and the case of being born with a physical disability by making the remark about "ending up in a wheelchair", which is a situation (i.e. being in a wheelchair) that can result from a broad range of circumstances. While having a knowledge of this sport is certainly ideal, it is unnecessary in order to identify that Rick handled his words without making consideration as to their implications.

  • @bunnydragon88 Clearly you don't know how to understand a joke.., it's actually pretty sad that you're on the internet critiquing what Rick was saying when he was really just making a joke about signing a waiver

  • @lukegalvani Some people don't feel like laughing when their existence is being degraded and stereotyped. I'm not sure how exactly it is sad to critique someone when what they are doing feeds into needless stereotypes about persons with physical disabilities, but I suppose everyone has there own perspective. People make jokes that are ill-conceived all the time and they get criticisms. That seems like a reasonable sequence of events to me.

  • @bunnydragon88 you aren't being degraded or stereotyped. When giving Rick the waiver he was asking for the comment to be made. If you are against that little thing then you must be against other parts of this video too

  • @bunnydragon88 You are what is wrong with the PC crowd. You are making a big deal of something that you perceive to be a discriminatory comment, but is actually not. If you look at @lukegalvani 's comment before you made your initial stupid comment, he was there for this video. He is someone you would claim to be offended by Rick's comment, and judging by his replies to your self-righteous posts has no problem whatsoever with them and sees them for what they are, a joke. Get over yourself.

  • This is truly a great video. It was great having Rick come and film with our team. It's a shame that hardly anyone has heard of our sport and that the government provides no funding to us even though we are one of Canada's national teams. I know that this video has generated awareness since I've received personal messages from as far as Ontario. I hope that this will show people with disabilities that they can achieve any goal imaginable. Hopefully other provinces will start playing too!

  • 4:02 he laughs at him hah

  • "I'm closing my eyes so you have a chance!" FTW!!

  • haha. That was awesome. Such a great guy and a great team. Lets get some funding there Canada.

  • such a nice guy, rick for every politcal seat in canada

  • Yay - he went to the neighbourhood I grew up in.

  • I find it rather unfortunate, and disappointing that they had to pretty much gather 100% of the funding themselves, and that the Canadian government gave them a penance to go to the Paris. That's such a shame. It seems it doesn't matter which version of a world team is playing for Canada. They always get less money than they deserve to represent us properly in a world game.

  • @KevinVideo They actually got NOTHING!

  • I am always impressed by the way Rick insists on shaking people's hand when he interviews them. Even for someone like Luke, who can't easily reach for a handshake himself, Rick makes a point of treating him like everyone else and reaching over to shake his hand. It's simple, but not something most people would automatically think to do...

  • @Arazig Well said.

  • Rick actually taking the yellow card from the ref and apologizing was the funniest thing I've seen today.

  • 2:58 and 3:48 - Luke and Shayne, way to tell Rick like it is!

  • Very awesome!!

(PS - How could someone hit the dislike button on this??)

  • @referee77 It was probably accidental

  • dude i live there

  • lmao always a coffee break

  • Rick is a child in a mans body, haha!

  • hahaha Rick turned it into bumper cars.

  • fun fact: It doesn't matter what it's called in the rest of the world, we grew up calling it soccer, SO IT'S FRACKING SOCCER! I find it very rude when someone from out side Canada and the US tells me off for calling it Soccer, that's out word for it, Don't tell me off for it and I won't correct you called the trunk of a call the "boot"

  • @zeldafreak71 Preach it!

  • @zeldafreak71 well thats your point of view.. you gotta look at it from their point of view.. football is their national sport and maybe they are offended by calling it soccer. I'm sure that many Canadians would be pissed if some nation called hockey by the name of something else

  • @TooLEGIT2quit19 Maybe true, although hockey isn't our national sport.

  • @patrickdickesonsmith actually yes it is. it is shared with lacrosse. Hockey being a winter national sport and Lacrosse being our summer winter sport.

  • @zeldafreak71 It matters since its training for a world event and you go to the rest of the world calling it soccer they will tell you your in the wrong event.

You may only care about what happens in canada, but not this group because they have the whole world in their view.

  • @zeldafreak71 it should be called football as that is what the rest of the world calls it. and it's a game played primarily with your feet....hence the name. the only reason we call it soccer is because of the stupis americans that call american football "football" yet the game is primarily played with the hands...makes sense right?

  • @bargeman314 no that's acutally ignorant. Unless you have evidence that it was always called football here before football became football then there's no right to say that we have the wrong name for it. If there is no mention of it being called football here before rugby-football was created then that means that we always called it Soccer here and therefore it's the right name for it here and it's very rude to tell me that my dialect is wrong because it doesn't match with yours.

  • @bargeman314 likewise, I don't tell people around the world that Ice Hockey should just be "Hockey" because that's what they call it there and it's rude for me to tell them they don't know the right word for it. If they want to call it Ice Hockey they have their every right to do so, even if I call it Hockey. being that Hockey (ice) originates in Canada, clearly we know what it should be called right?
